OOTD: Making my Grand return featuring the Anthropologie Matinee Sweater Dress, Anthropologie Dreia Envelope Bag, Madewell Washed Leather Moto and more :: Effortlessly with Roxy

Grand Army Plaza is one of my favorite spots in Brooklyn. Much like Paris’s Arc de Triomphe, the Civil War memorial arch called the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Arch is the hub at which several avenues come together and circle around the plaza. Thankfully, there are more crosswalks in Brooklyn then in Paris!

When Alex and I were hunting for a spot to move in together, I not-so-secretly kept proximity to Grand Army near the top of my wishlist. If I was going to make the move to Brooklyn I wanted to be near beauty both manmade and natural (this plaza serves as one entrance to Prospect Park, and the Botanical Gardens are just up the street). We lucked out and found a newly renovated 2 bedroom just steps away!

Every Saturday Brooklyn’s biggest farmer’s market happens here. I stroll through with Cinnamon on our way to pick up coffee. On our way home, we pass through and pick up fresh flowers (for me) and apple cider (for Alex). Often I’ll buy from the duck farm (they have great dog treats!) or one of the many veggie stands. It’s an every weekend delight!

I also walk through this plaza on my commute many days. I recently teamed up with fellow blogger Austen (highly recommend you follow her!!) to shoot this outfit. It’s a very typical workday outfit for me right now, as my work life revolves around heading from event to event in and around Manhattan run by my junior staff.

Just a couple more months til I head back to a more conservative office dress code. Til then, I’m enjoying the trends, like this red on pink combination. As I must repeat every time I wear this jacket (see it on me here, here and here) — if there were ever a leather jacket worth investing in, this is it.

As a bonus, I’ve posted two mirror selfies of how this outfit looks on me on my shoppable outfits page. You’ll find a mix of pro shots and mirror selfies coming to that page. May as well keep it real, right? Even if these pro shoots are super fun! I rotate the jacket I pair with this dress. It’s usually something leather but not always. What trends are you enjoying for Fall?

Thank you so much kelly!! 🙂 I love how the rose color of the dress works with so many things. I'm wearing it quite often (but not today because it's suddenly 70 in NYC again…)

You look very nice. That dress looks great on you! Anthro is annoying me right now; but I may be tempted to try it.

I hear you lady! If it helps at all I ordered this from the website and it arrived on-time and in good condition.

You look healthy and gorgeous, Roxy! I was just in that area this summer – a friend and I tried to see the Bowie exhibit, but it was sold out. Did you go?

    • November 2, 2018 / 3:44 pm

Thank you Anthropolitan! Yes I did see it — we were sad not to be able to get tickets to the opening night Dance Party. I was Bowie last year for Halloween. A friend of ours works at the Brooklyn Museum and was part of the team responsible for getting that exhibit to the museum! I wish it had stayed a month or two longer.

Oh, wow, cool! I did get the book as a consolation, but I'm very sorry I didn't get to see the actual show. I think some or all of it is going on permanent exhibit at the V&A in London, though. Maybe someday!

        • November 2, 2018 / 8:28 pm

Ahhhh it really is a perfect fit for London. The coolest thing about the exhibit was that the playlist knew to change songs/narration as you move around. I've been to a few shows like that now but the Bowie exhibit was particularly well done. I still can't believe he's gone.

            Oh, that sounds amazing.

Bowie will never really be gone. Part of an artist will always live on forever – through their work, and through those they have touched by it. 🙂

Thank you for these! Will update when I'm back in front of a computer.

So funny, I'm seeing different promos for Madewell and WHBM!! I added the ones I see to the post.

Love the outfit on you and you do look great! You have the happily engaged glow! While there are a lot of promo's I may sit this one out other than a possible dress at anthro. Enjoy the beautiful weather!

    • November 4, 2018 / 9:04 pm

Thank you Shari! I am totally enjoying the engagement phase of our relationship. It's so temporary in the grand scheme of things.

That dress is so flattering on you! My favorite fall colors (along with purple), too! The picture of you reclining on the bench is my favorite.
And your four-legged baby? Made my day!!! What a cutie! 🙂 Maybe she could join you in some of your outfit postings in the future. I always see pictures of gals walking their fur babies. That is, if she'd cooperate. She does look like a dog model…..!

    • November 4, 2018 / 9:08 pm

Thank you so much luvlucytoo! And yes, I am happy to include Cinnamon in some of my upcoming shoots. I have a shoot in my neighborhood scheduled for this week — I will see if Cinny is up for tagging along!!

    • November 6, 2018 / 10:24 pm

Thank you Liz! Yes this is a lovely view…I do have a big smile on my face nearly every day walking by such pretty places. Except when it's really windy. Then I'm just trying to keep the hair out of my mouth, lol.

Thank you so much for the mix of older and new, your fantastic sense of combining colors that suit you so well, and the importance of fit, and being able to combine it all into a wearable and comfortable combination. Plus adorable Cinnamon pics. Brought a big smile to me.

aside: just as I packed away my true summer clothes, we hit over 70 the last few days, but are going back to freezing nights. From my West coast days, I'm all about four season dressing, but here in the East the challenge is getting four seasons in one day. And commuter biking to boot (in my normal dress clothes).

    • November 6, 2018 / 10:27 pm

Aww Eina thank YOU so much for this lovely comment. I am easing into the mindset that my outfits don't have to be all new all the time, or even complete, to still have value here. It's the conversation spark that I want.

I am so with you on the seasonal changeover. We have a storage cage in our building's basement. My closet is pretty small (no complaints though because Alex's is even smaller) so I keep 1-1.5 seasons in my closet, and the rest stays in the storage cage. I was down there two weeks ago and left my Winter jackets and dresses behind because it was so warm. Then of course we had a cold snap, so I packed away my Summer stuff and got out the Fall/Winter stuff. And then it got warm again…so I had to go BACK down and get out a couple of Summery pieces until the chill really settles in.

Fall is awesome. Fall is tough!
