New arrivals: Embrace the pear

Could it be that designers are embracing the pear? Consider this Burberry knockoff above that Idra has introduced. Goldenmeans alerted us to the Two Paths Trench ($188), a trench that makes even the model looks hipalicious. And you know what? I think it’s awesome. I’m so over the waif movement which has recently devolved into the walking dead movement. It’s one thing to be thin and healthy — that’s beautiful, just like any other healthy shape. It’s quite another to be thin through drugs, starvation or society pressure. Can we just get over the idea already? It’s sick. I hate it. It’s been around far too long. It needs to die.

I love the idea of everyone walking around in a coat that makes you look curvy — that makes you look like a woman! Idra could have done better with the button placement (an outward movement at the top of the coat would be much more flattering). Otherwise this coat just seems…embraceable and rebellious. Who would have thought a trench would ever make me say that?

Not that the ruffled trench is the only new thing on Anthro’s website. Taikonhu’s Player’s Jacket ($118) seems suitable for work or play. I love the hook & eye closures up the front and the pinstriped material. Leifsdottir’s Kensington Jacket ($478) is a sunny, happy option that is priced over my spending budget. Anthropologie gave the Cerulean Swing Coat a new name for spring — now it’s the Swingin’ Swing Coat ($128, review here) by Tabitha.

On the top front I’m going to glaze over the continued interest in plaid (no offense plaid) in favor of pretty tank tops. The Dauphine Blouse ($118) by Hype looks beautiful though I worry the colors will wash fair skinned peeps out. Roses are red and Bordeaux’s Fancy That Tank ($58) comes in the beautiful shape of blue you see above (and black and orange). Ruching plus flower neckline equals love in my book.

Deletta unveils a double-shot with their McKay Tank ($78) and Atlantis Adornment Tank ($68). Though some may not like the bib style of the McKay tank I think it’s pretty cool and right on-trend. There is also a navy version with a subdued bib. The last top above is the All-The-Fixings Top ($68) by one.september. It has a romantic vibe to it that I’ve come to expect from Anthropologie. I’m eager to try it on.

On the sweater front it’s still all cardigans, all the time. It’s the jewel-toned blue that I love in the Lady And The Champ Pullover ($128). I picture it with wide leg trousers and a soft silk cami underneath. The cardigan formerly known as the Oscillating Cardi is rechristened the Swift Current Cardigan ($88) and Tabitha has added a few new colors to choose from. Pleats make their way into the kick of the Edana Cardigan ($98) by Sparrow and Knitted & Knotted’s Nearly Gossamer Cardigan ($88). The varying fabrics in the Petal Tart Cardigan ($128) by Monogram are part circus and part salesman yet it all adds up to something intriguing. Must try on!

Pink! It’s in there for two options by Girls from Savoy: the Burgeoning Latitudes Dress ($138) and the Swinging Sweetheart Dress ($168). Bailey 44 tries to convince us that rayon spandex is worth nearly $200 with their Daily Gathering Dress ($188). I am not convinced. On the fairer-priced front LA Made introduces their Leading Role Dress ($98) which I can only hope fits better than their last Anthropologie item.

Beautiful patterns, and one solid wardrobe staple make up Anthro’s latest skirt debuts. Edme & Esyllte bookend this set with their Air Mail Skirt ($98, far left) and Royal Poinciana Skirt ($78, far right). Coming in from the left side of the collage we find two mini skirts that put the mini in mini….or something like that. First is the Pollen Promise Skirt ($198) which robbed the length to pouf out the sides apparently and the Kahiko Steps Mini ($188) which I tried on but did not take photos of because it was so ridiculously short on me. Petite gals will probably be fine though. Those two are both by Leifsdottir.

Next to them is my champion, Paperboy by G1’s Sailing Hobbyist Skirt ($88). I’ll have a review of this one later this week but ladies it is perfection! Perfect length, perfect fit, perfect wardrobe staple. I’m thrilled because the lone pink skirt in my closet, an Urban Outfitters purchase from 2003, is ready to retire. I’m so excited to find an equally pleasing replacement! Right next to this skirt is We Love Vera’s stunning Chalk And Charcoal Skirt ($88). It looks beautiful — I just hope it’s long enough.

I am also digging the White Sands Wedges ($365). What new arrival(s) caught your eye this week?

Roxy: Where did the Sailing Hobbyists skirt come to you on? I thought it looked short.I simply must have the Airmail skirt. Haven't seen it in either of the 2 stores I usually frequent. I'm with you with the being over all too skinny took. Now, if you happen to be naturally thin and healthy all for that, but it is a sad commentary on life in America that size 8/10 models are used for plus size photos. More power for us curvy or pear shapped people!I also love the Burberry inspired trench. Think it's really cute and different. However, I have too many trenches and bought the Leading Lady trench on second markdown already. It is fabulous and I sized down as recomended by your review.BTW: Happy Valentines Day!

I can't wait for your review of the Sailing Hobbyist Skirt! I have the Passage of Time Skirt, and it's the comfiest. Sounds like this one might be equally pleasing!

That last LA Made dress ended up being very flattering on my 11-year-old daughter! I got it for her on extreme clearance. (She's probably 5'4" and 120 pounds, and she's still rather curveless.)

I am totally in love with the airmail skirt and the trench. I'd probably get the airmail skirt at full price, but will wait for the trench to go on sale.

Kensington Jacket is just way too expense but so happy!!! rare to see true happy yellow jacket. I want to try on McKay Tank and All-The-Fixings Top. At first the grey for All-The-Fixings Top didn't make me go gaga…until I saw the moss one. Both of these blouses are calling me. Can't wait to try it out at store.

I really, really, REALLY want those Tulip Slingbacks, but they seem about $40 over-priced. I also love that pink Sailing Hobbyist skirt. I'm hoping to pick that up this week. Gorgeous!

I Full-price loved the Fancy That Tank in orange and bought it with the Dwarf Quince Cadi (another FP love item!). Thanks so much for all your great reviews. By the way, I'm a 36D and the Fancy That Tank still looked great. My sales person said it is looking so good on everyone!

Ohmygosh I am loving that trench. I've been obsessed with the Burberry one (especially since Robin started wearing it on How I Met Your Mother). It must be mine!

A pink skirt? *gasp* I need. I usually go for full skirts, though, and pencil shapes aren't really my style, but I'll definitely try it on and see. I'm dying for the tulip slingbacks, but I refuse to pay $188. I learned my lesson with the budding t-straps and WILL snap them up immediately if they ever make it to sale, though. Any thoughts on comfort/sizing from those who own them? I have wussy feet that are most comfortable in tennis shoes, and I'm terrible at walking in heels, so they'd need to be comfortable.

Bloomingdales is carrying the Kensington trench in khaki under a different name: the Left Bank trench. The cutest part of it?: the heart print lining. Anthro's Kensington doesn't mention a special lining (neither does the lone customer review), so maybe it doesn't have it? For the same $478 price tag, it ought to!

Yep, the Two Paths Trench is officially a lemming item, and I will be one of the first to plunk down full price dollars if it fits well IRL. I cannot wait to see people's reviews and photos. FWIW, the dressform photo on anthro.com shows buttons on the lapels that do give an outward movement at the top of the coat.

I am so in favor of the pear movement. All women are beautiful and all women can be fashionable, and I think the fashion world needs to become more focused on these ideas. Love live the curve!

I've tried on three of these lovelies. (By the way, I love your picks, Roxy)The Dauphine Blouse is cute, but very pale. It's not sheer, though. The store had it styled with a silk tank underneath (grey or turq) that looked really nice together. The All The Fixings top is sublime. The ruffles look great under the new cardis that are out. I paired mine with the Clinging Blossoms cardi, which is cropped enough to show off the ruffles at the bottom.Lastly, the Burgeoning Latitudes dress is great, but it made my chest flatten out (which for me is a good thing). The bottom has a lot of volume, but the pockets are adorable.I should have some pics of these up on my blog this week. Sorry for the long post!! I hope this helps anyone interested in these pieces. 🙂

Here here!!! I completely agree, I love the shape of a woman that is, well, womanly.

I love the trench coat in the first picture!! I was in Tyson's today and they did not have it yet :(By the way, what shoes is she wearing with the trench coat? I must have!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bronzi – just a bit above my knees. And Happy (belated) Valentine's Day to you!pixelant – they are the Grevy's Wedges. 🙂

I tried on the Two Paths Trench and am in love!! I tried on 12 and 14: 12 was a bit tight in the upper arms so I tried the 14 but the arms were too long and can't easily be tailored due to button placket. So, I am planning on getting the 12. I tried it on with a dress (love my Lolland) and sweater under it and while arms were a bit tight (I don't have Obama arms…yet), the coat is polyester so it still moves. The length was closer to knee on me (model is, of course, taller than me) but not over my knees. Felt like a dress coat, not an everyday trench. Love love love even at full price. Hope to pick it up this weekend after counting pennies in my piggy bank!
