OOTD: What I wore this week

Oh. My. Goodness. Ladies, you are looking at the City Siren Heels. These Miss L Fire shoes are uh-mazing. I stupidly didn’t buy them when they were originally available in fall 2008. Since then I’ve pined…nay, begged, for them! Kim from Anthroholic was nice enough to alert me to an ebay fixed price auction for them a few months ago…which I promptly lost to an offer $10 higher than mine (grumble). But then a pair showed up in the Trade Market!! Thanks to Jessica for posting and selling these to me. I love them. I adore them. I am over-the-top delirious over them! They just might be my Valentine…kidding! Maybe. Heh.

Happy Valentine’s Day! Whether you are celebrating with someone or cursing the existence of this Hallmark Holiday I hope you have a lovely day. On to the outfits!

I could not wait to wear them out. So come Monday I wore my new pretties to work. I had seen the Drenched Helenium Tee on “What Not to Wear” the Friday previous and I decided I therefore needed to wear mine. It’s so hard to make a floral top that doesn’t look like a couch but Weston Wear really pulled it off. It worked well in this outfit I think. Chloe also used the tee in a look this week! (Much more glam than mine.) The top has red spots in the flower stigmas and the Berry Bush tights have little spots of red in them too. By the way, did y’all notice that the Berry Bush tights now come in black? I’ve been really lucky with mine — I’m still on my first pair with no rips. Hopefully I did not just jinx myself.

Also wanted to give a shoutout to my parents, who got me the bracelet I’m wearing in this set. My mom makes jewelry (among other things) and it is through her that I learned to patronize local designers. This piece isn’t hers but it is a Connecticut original. Support the little guys (and gals)!

In this outfit:
Sweater: Banana Republic cashmere blend cardigan in navy (similar here, here and here)
Top: Drenched Helenium Tee (similar here, here, here (tank version!) and here)
Skirt: Many Moods skirt (similar here, here and here)
Tights: Berry Bush tights ($18)
Shoes: City Siren Heels (similar here, here and here)
Bracelet: birthday present from the parents

Tuesday was the day before ZOMGSNOWPOCOLYPSEEVERYONEFREAKOUT here in NYC. I used the day to get a short-sleeve outfit in, though truth be told the heat was so cranked in my office building that I should have worn tank tops the rest of the week. I love this top — a blouse with vest sewn over that I think I got at Macy’s many years ago. I want to say high school potentially. I have a similar version in brown. The blouse has just a taste of rufflage that any Anthro lover can appreciate. Can you tell I love denim skirts? They are just so comfortable and versatile. If I could only keep 5 items from my closet one of my denim skirts would make the cut for sure. This necklace is another gift from my parents — last year’s birthday present actually. They get double mentions this week!

In this outfit:
Top: super oldie from Macy’s (similar here and here)
Skirt: Gap denim slant-pocket pencil skirt (similar here, here and here)
Tights: Target crosshatch tights (similar here)
Shoes: Nine West (similar here, here and here)
Necklace: birthday present from the parents last year
Earrings: American Eagle (similar here and here)

Well, I survived the ZOMGSNOWPOCOLYPSEWELLACTUALLYTHATWASN’TSOBAD on Wednesday. My work was open since we are 24/7 and luckily my commute is underground so it wasn’t bad at all. My subway line also never goes above ground so there were no delays. Some of my coworkers and friends in the boroughs had a tough time getting in. It’s times like this that I can justify spending what I do in rent. I got everywhere I needed to safely. Also my neighborhood (Financial District) is all tall buildings so there wasn’t even all that much snow around me. Bummer. This snow bunny wanted MORE!!

For obvious reasons I was dressed down at work. Man I sweating in this thick wool grandpa sweater. I was ready to chop all my hair off by the end of the day and strip down.

In this outfit:
Sweater: J.Crew Alpaca Shawl Collar Sweater (here, here and here)
Tank: J.Crew sparkle tank in gold (similar here, here and here)
Jeans: Gap Long and Lean jeans ($58-70)
Boots: Bear Traps zip-up ankle boots (similar here, here and here)
Necklace: Pessinus Garden Necklace — in select Anthropologies (no longer online)

And then I got my hair did! I went to Butterfly Studio in Flatiron. They did an awesome job as usual. My hair was a mess colorwise. Over the summer I’d gone purple which was fun but wreaked havoc on my hair. It was dry and looked pretty ragged. So I asked Butterfly to bring me just a shade darker than my natural color. Love it! Then for my cut my stylist remembered that I was growing it out so she just cut me new bangs and took off the dead ends. My hair looked 100% healed and natural by the time I was done and I couldn’t be happier. If you’re ever in town I highly recommend them.

For my outfit, I FINALLY picked up my Falling Ribbon Cardigan (now $50) on sale! I willed it there. (Or Anthro put it there, ya know, whichever.) Funny thing is I had wanted the navy for so long but in-store I found myself drawn to the grey. I’m happy with the purchase, especially since it works perfectly over my Climbing Cowlneck ($48) in “dark grey.” With snow still on the ground I kept it simple with jeans and boots again. Boring I know but there was no way I was going to try NYC sidewalks in heels. Some crazy people did though.

In this outfit:
Sweater: Falling Ribbon Cardigan (now $50)
Top: Climbing Cowlneck ($48)
Jeans: Gap Long and Lean jeans ($58-70)
Boots: Bear Traps zip-up ankle boots (similar here, here and here)
Jewelry: Oldies from Old Navy

Come Friday I was missing skirts so I decided to chance it. Denim again — I know you’re shocked! I own 20 skirts and this one and my Many Moods Skirt are in heaviest rotation. I promise to give my other skirts some face time next week. Maybe. This outfit does have one rarity — a F21 appearance. The top is an Anna Sui knockoff that I just could not pass up. My ring also happens to be from F21. The necklace is one of my favorites from Anthropologie but I don’t get to wear it very often. The colors are luscious but I’ve found this necklace kind of hard to dress down. I admired this piece for awhile (read this post for more). This outfit needed a belt I realize now. Next time.

In this outfit:
Sweater: J.Crew cashmere v-neck cardigan ($168)
Top: Forever 21 (similar here, here, here and here)
Skirt: Gap denim slant-pocket pencil skirt (similar here, here and here)
Tights: Target crosshatch tights (similar here)
Shoes: Nine West (similar here, here and here)

And just for the heck of it, here’s a bonus outfit. This was me on Saturday. Another Trade Market/reader shoutout is due. Thanks to Alana, I now have the Tiger’s Eye Necklace that I’ve wanted for oh, almost three years or so since I saw it in the November 2007 catalogue (see page 31, or the photo below). And it’s just as beautiful as I’d hoped.

The top is also from Anthropologie. It was a random $10 find that I cannot recall seeing on the website. It’s just a long racerback tunic that is the perfect length to make me look long and lean. I really love it. With a long cardi over it I’m in the official NYC winter uniform.

In this outfit:
Sweater: J.Crew twilit stripe cardigan (similar here and here)
Top: Random Anthropologie sale find (similar here)
Jeans: Express Mia skinnies (similar here)
Boots: J.Crew Brewster Tall Boots in Espresso (similar here)

Roxy, I just looked up your review of the Drenched Helenium Tee and wondered if you ever tried on the XS? If so, do you think I could fit in that if I'm about the same size as you but with a B chest?

Morning ladies! Thanks for all the positive feedback. :)sara22185 – mine is a small. I did try on the XS at one point and found it too tight around my hips. The shirt is pretty stretchy though so I could have made it work if I had to.
