Reviews: The good and not so good, part two

More tricky photography from Anthropologie has me laughing. How could I not have noticed that the model seems to have poofy butt in the About-Town Dress ($128)? If she has that effect I stand no chance.

Yep. More poofy butt. Not only that, this dress was so heavy and extremely hard to get on. The first product reviewer joked that she dislocated her shoulder trying to get in. At least, I hope she’s joking. I wouldn’t be surprised. I tried on the medium and once I finally did get it on I found it small in the bust with a skirt so completely unflattering it came right back off. I didn’t even bother taking front or side shots. The one above pretty much says it all I think.

Luckily there are better options in-store. Take the Reed Shirtdress ($118) by Moulinette Souers for example. Made of cotton voile, it’s soft and light. My true size 6 fit well though there is very slight pulling across the bust. Not enough that I feel the need to size up. Plus, it has pockets! Instant win in my book. The skirt is poofy but not outrageously so. The only odd thing was that the arms were very tight on me. My arms have some flab, not sure if that was the cause. I don’t usually have arm issues like this. It made the dress a pain to get on and take off. I guess I’ll have to unbutton it when I buy it.

Another epic fail recently was the Tweed & Chiffon Dress ($188, review here) which was both too short and too tight. But when Anthro closes a door they open a window and in this case the window is the Here-Today-Here-Tomorrow Dress ($128). Not quite the same but a close approximation. It has a black top and a patterned skirt. The Here-Today-Here-Tomorrow Dress also wins points with me for being a good 3 inches longer and much more A-line. And pockets help. I tried on the small and it was pretty much perfect. Good job, little yellow button!

I hadn't realized that the Here Today, Here Tomorrow dress had a patterned skirt–now maybe I'll have to try it on.Also, I don't know if you watch How I Met Your Mother, but I'm pretty sure that Alyson Hannigan was wearing the Fey Grove Dress last night.

Oh my gosh, the Reed Shirtdress is absolutely stunning on you! 🙂 You must get it.Ack at the apparent fit of the About-Town dress though, as well as the poofy back! Too bad, because I love the plaid pattern.

I had the same problem trying to get the About Around Town dress off. I'm 5'2 and I still found the dress too short and puffy. Too bad because I really liked the plaid print. Have you tried the Cosgrove dress? When I returned the About Around Dress, one of the SA showed me the Cosgrove Dress and I ended up getting that instead even though I have like a million black dresses.

AL, I saw a photo on Vulture today! I have the episode DVR'ed but won't be able to watch for a few days. I love Alyson Hannigan and she looked really cute in the dress. Thanks goldenmeans. 🙂 I do plan on buying the Reed Shirtdress. I could not believe the About Town Dress either, as I really had high hopes for it.

Diem, I have a request in to try on the Cosgrove Dress. I thought I had seen it out in one of the NYC stores yet but I must have been imagining things, or it sold out very quickly. I hope it makes it here soon.

Has anyone tried on the anemone cardigan? Is it itchy? The pattern's beautiful, but I tend to be sensitive to fabrics that cause itchiness and I don't have an anthropologie here where I can try it on.

I did not have a problem getting out of the dress, but I just did not like the way the fabric felt, too stiff IMO. And yeah, I felt that the length might be an issue. It kind of look about the right length for me since I am short, but I could see how other taller girls might have a problem with it. However, that second dress is so cute on you.

Julia, I did not find the Anemone Bloom Cardigan itchy at all. It feels much more like cashmere than tougher wool. Thank you Rosa! 🙂

Thanks for the reviews! I agree that the reed shirtdress is such a classic piece to have. It's so comfortable too! I wished it were a tad bit longer, but it wasn't a big issue as I expect to wear mine with boots. I found it to be on the smaller side, so I ended up sizing up. I certainly recommend this dress. ny0311

Anonymous @ 2:39, I will keep an eye out for the Hasty Hatchling Necklace. If they have it I'll snap a few photos for context.

Hey I was wondering how tall you were because I am not sure the Reed dress would be long enough for me? It looks really cute on you, I am just worried the flared bottom would make it obscene on me.

I have the About-Town Dress and love it. When dressed up with the belt and black hose it's beautiful.
