Enticing summer with Free People

Want to look and feel extra beautiful this summer? Look no further than Free People, who continues to hit it out of the park with fabulous and fashionable boho crossover. Their newest arrivals have more than a hint of preppy chic to them which leaves me endlessly happy. Aren’t items like the Brigitte Gingham Mini Dress ($187) shown here with the Love Tempo Sunnies ($60) inspiring dreams of escapes with you too? Think you can’t wear Free People’s clothing? Think again…

Perhaps it’s because I’ll be attending a beach wedding on Hilton Head Island in just a few weeks, or maybe it’s that beach weather is nearly here and I’m itching to get some quality sun time (mixed with lots of quality tent time!). Whatever the reason, FP’s newest stuff is really resonating with me.

I adore their fun feelings made real in items like the Embroidered Gingham Tube ($128), seen above in red and also available in navy or a striped version. Even their rompers are cute! (Hello, Art Deco RomperDel Sur RomperEverblue Romper and For Real Romper! I could keep going.) Let’s roll around town in fun shorts like the Daisy Chain Lace Short ($88) and the Chain Toker Embroidered Short ($88) topped by the casual chic Diamond Embroidered Top ($148), the lovely lacy Marigold Tunic ($128) and the Retro Romance Maxi Top ($148) just to name a few. Finish the look with cute new shoes like the Bow Tie Slip On Sandal ($130 or in solid) or the At Ease Loafer ($98).

Then there are the needed layering pieces, like the I’ll Be Around Cardi ($128) and the Low Tide Cardi ($128), both of which throw on so easily over dresses or casual looks for extra protection against windy afternoons or chilly evenings. To be sure, there are plenty of items on FP’s site that would never work on me (or most adult bodies it seems) but looking just a bit below the surface yields such delights!

Free People is also drawing me in with their accessories, particularly their wide range of beautiful bags. The Monarch Embroidered Hobo ($148) seen above in wine and equally appealing in black is the top dream bag on a long list that also includes the expensives like the Capri Embellished Tote ($658 and extremely yummy) and the simple and small like the Carlee Vegan Crossbody ($38).

From cute Yankees hats to beach cover-ups to pretty crowns I want to wear on July 4th, I’m delighting in all of the pretty touches Free People is stocking. Much of my Spring shopping budget went here and over the last year or so my FP purchases remain near the top of my favorites list.

Below you’ll find a boutique chock full of Free People goodies — and I’d love to make my list a little longer with your favorites too! Please share in the comments…

Soooooooo many things to love at Free People right now, and you have already mentioned so many of them. I'm very seriously considering the Monarch embroidered bag in black for my summer bag (although if finances allowed, I'd really have the Capri Embellished tote in that yummy green. SWOON!) The marigold tunic is already allotted for next months' budget (although whether that will be the ivory or pale pink is yet to be seen)

Swelling my wishlist are these earrings (one of the few cross earrings they have that don't look too 80's Madonna): https://www.freepeople.com/shop/charmed-cross-ear… this gorgeous dress: https://www.freepeople.com/shop/temecula-maxi-dre… , this maxi top: https://www.freepeople.com/shop/junie-embellished… , this pretty kimono: https://www.freepeople.com/shop/bold-love-kimono/ , and because I like to dream big, these suede jackets: https://www.freepeople.com/shop/prince-suede-jackhttps://www.freepeople.com/shop/well-dressed-jacket/

Awesome picks Anthropolitan! I have about 10 or 15 pairs of FP earrings wishlisted, and I think they are doing so well with their accessories right now. I love that suede jacket too. ??

Wow!!! Roxy I love love love their handbags/totes. El Cosmica is so pretty.

Free people is bringing way prettier items than Anthro lately. Thank goodness there is some place where I can buy those unique Embroidered boho etc items. Anthro stop bringing short boxy poor quality items.

Yes it's kind of sad and I am just waiting to see if Anthro digs themselves out of this hole. And while I adore Free People it's for completely different reasons so I hope Anthro doesn't try to become "FP elder" or something like that.

I hear u Roxy!!! It's really sad how Anthro is declining in quality and the uniqueness it had? I stopped shopping at FP for tops and dresses after I got in my 30's ( I still am in my 30's 😉 coz I thought it's more for younger population but now looking at Anthros Catalogs in several months I'm moving towards FP again. I have found somethings I can still wear.

For work I prefer BR, Loft, club Monaco or Jcrew 🙂 now. And for Pretties I buy things from Sundance and I ABSOLUTELY love them?

I'm shocked at how much negative press JCrew is getting in comparison to Anthro.

Perhaps its because of their heavy debt burden and more prominent public figures but seems to me, Anthro's decline has been way worse during a much shorter time frame. I even saw an Anthro social media post use the words "deep discounts" for the first time. While I do find the accessories to be satisfactory the apparel has fallen off a steep cliff.

I just love Free People and have had great luck with them over the last year. I like to try on their clothes in person though because their clothes tend to run pretty large on me or are too low cut. I've been having the best time with a couple of dresses from Draper James especially their Cherry Orchard Ruffle Shirtdress, it is TTS in my regular size 6 and it is well made and SO adorable in person. Also, I have my eye on the new Rosa Embroidered Swing Dress from Anthro, not sure if it's too much of a tent from the pictures as I haven't been in the store in a while but it's really very pretty and cotton!

You're so welcome Nam, I just knew you'd love those two dresses! Also, I bought the Umbrella Love Circle Dress because I had a coupon as a first time buyer and it's also TTS. I'm a true size 6 and it's perfect on me. If you're a 4 or 8 or whatever size you usually go by, it should fit well. These dresses are incredibly adorable!!

The ruffled sleeve dress does gape just a tiny tad in the bust for me because I'm now a DD so I sewed a tiny button inside to close it up but otherwise it's perfect and well worth every cent:)

Ladies, rumor has it the return policy is changing at anthropologie again? could an employee confirm this change? it sounds like this is the end for me….and it has been coming…slowly

    • June 7, 2017 / 3:01 pm

Hi Yulka, yes you are correct — I have a few emails in my inbox about this as well. Feel free to discuss it here. I am working on a post for it that I hope to have live tonight, but it may not be live til tomorrow.

Do we know what exactly is changing? I am anxious since I have several items that I purchased last season I am still not sure that I want to keep. 🙁

My SA told me that If u return items purchased before 6 months will no longer be sellable at Anthro even though it's in perfect condition/ with tags too. And u will get store credit instead of going back to original method of payment

          June 7, 2017 / 10:33 pm

Thank you Nam. I can use store credit. I am glad they are changing the time length of the return to like 30 or 60 days.

Whew! I was thinking it would be something like only 30 days…sometimes I have to wait on the weather to wear something to see if I want to keep it.

That is very sad. The thing that made Anthropologie so enticing when I first started shopping there was it's unique return policy and that fact that you had a chance of getting certain items that you regretted missing out on the first time around. It is hardly surprising but still… What this will mean for me is that I will think WAY more before buying which means, in the end, I will be spending a lot less.

Is this new policy already valid? I don't care for store credit as I like nothing from Anthro anymore.

Don't usually like rompers but that hot chip romper is so cute. For FP I have a lot of basics with a twist wishlisted: tanks, camisoles, bralettes. They also have cute bodysuits. The amount of offerings is kind of overwhelming though

I loooove FP but I wish their dresses were just a little longer! Their stuff runs a little large too so I usually need to size down and end up loosing an additional inch or two in the process. I don't remember their dresses being so short a couple of years ago. Beautiful items though. Those purses!!

Does anyone know if FP does a birthday discount? I just got my Anthro discount … but there's something I want at FP and the extra $ for shipping is putting me just at a price point where I can't pull the trigger.

    • June 9, 2017 / 2:57 pm

They do! You can contact customer service if you didn't get one — it's 15% off your purchase.
