You ladies know how much I love Amazon Fashion for clothing, shoe and accessories shopping. In fact, they are one of this blog’s official sponsors! I’m a pilot member of their Fashion Influencers program because of how often I turn to them for my stuff. (This post, however, is not sponsored.)
I get emails all the time along the lines of, ‘I like Amazon but it’s so overwhelming to shop for Fashion there! Too many options! How do I tell what’s real or not? How do I discern quality?’ So, I thought it might be helpful to start up a regular picks post where I share some of the things I’ve purchased recently or have on my wishlist to help you narrow down the overwhelming selection. We’ll see how this goes and if you like this please let me know in the comments!
April has only just begun but my Spring shopping is in full swing! I already have so many early April Amazon Fashion picks. It’s a very exciting time in my life — Alexander proposed to me on Christmas and now we’re in the midst of wedding planning! Right now we’re focused on all things engagement, including our engagement party and engagement photos for our wedding website. My fiancé has opinions about our wedding venue and such, but is mostly leaving things to me for our photos and things like that.
Needless to say, there’s a lot of shopping to be done! We’ll be taking photos as soon as NYC comes into bloom and I’m having so much fun hunting for two perfect engagement photo dresses. I may have found them at Amazon, more on that a little further down in this post…
Firstly, we need to talk about this bag above and topping the post. The Cult Gaia Ark Bag ($168) is one of the ‘it’ bags I see on influencers’ arms often. This bag hasn’t really been a favorite of mine but I get asked about it all the time. I do love the handmade qualities of it! While $168 isn’t nearly as expensive as many designer bags, it’s already $70 more than this bag was last year and it’s not cheap either. For people on a budget it may be out of reach. The brand is already trying to push its new round version this year. I wonder about the longevity of these trendy shapes.
My friends and I often debate the real vs. dupe topic regarding luxe bags. I often discuss it with readers here too! My personal take is that if you can afford the real thing and find the bag timeless, invest and buy it. You’ll never regret it. However, I have no judgement towards people who buy dupes. Friends of mine who own the real thing say it’s quite fragile and needs a lot of TLC. That’s another reason to perhaps go for a take on the bag rather than the true item.
And for the Cult Gaia bag, Amazon has tons of great dupes! For the money it’s hard to beat this pair which includes both a larger, wider take on the bamboo ark bag and a smaller one to. If you just want one size you can choose from large or small via this retailer, and I love the tassels that come with this version! If you want something special, there are also white and black versions of the bag.
To style the Gaia bag or one of its twins, I think the key is not to go too literal. When I see the bag with beach outfits I find it too on the nose. Sometimes I see the bag styled with a dressier work outfit and the effect doesn’t quite land for me. If you want some good styling ideas, follow my Street Style and Work Outfits Pinterest boards, where I’ve added some wonderful looks and will add more over the weekend.
When I first started engagement photo and engagement party dress shopping I was leaning heavily towards buying the Chemical Lace Midi Dress ($90-$158) you see above. The lace design is so cute! The slip underneath is a cool contrast or tonal match. I thought it would be ideal. Alas, when I tried it on I realized it’s a bit too low-cut for someone as busty as I am. I still love the dress though and sometimes get emails asking if I know where it’s from. So now you have the link to the dress, which comes in several colors (loooove the red and the yellow!) Also if you’d like an even budget-friendlier version, there is this very similar option for under $40. Finally, if you like the style of this dress but want a higher bustline I recommend trying this version.
Since neither of those dresses worked for me, I ordered a few other dresses to try on. I ended up really loving this Pom-Pom Sheer Lace Bell Sleeve Dress ($30) very much! I feared it might be too short on me, but it’s fine with a slip underneath. It’s so cheerful and Spring-ready that I’m sure I’ll wear it often. I also ordered a dress in a similar vein but a slightly different sleeve style. I purchased that dress in the ‘sage green’ color which is actually more of a blue. Amazon states this dress is 36″ long but I feel it’s closer to 34″. This makes it just long enough as a dress, and great as a tunic. These two dresses are my favorite among my early April Amazon Fashion picks!
