Investigating Anthropologie’s newest arrivals

It’s a little easier to think about fall after Labor Day, even if — as the weather in NYC reminded us yesterday — it’s still officially summer for a few more weeks. Anthro’s new fall arrivals have certainly taken on a more earth-toned hue and I’m delighted to see it.

Inside, what’s new to my wishlist…

Ahh, tall boot time! Perhaps my favorite time of year. I replenished my collection of knee height (and taller boots) last year so I’m not looking to dive into anything this year unless a pair I simply must have comes along. While these are all lovely to look at so far nothing quite equals what’s already in my closet. But, if I did not already own four pairs of beautiful tall boots these would certainly be on my list to at least try, if not buy.

And there are plenty more boots to love in Anthro’s shoe section. There’s the Splendid Tandie Wedges ($168) which seem like the ideal wedges to pair with oversized chunky sweaters or sleek cashmere turtlenecks, the Splendid Darcie Knee Boots ($328) which have a cute line of detail stitching along the top, the midcalf Splendid Delora Mid-Boots ($268) which have a cuff look to them that I adore, the classic riding book in Sam Edelman’s Penny Boots ($150), the gorgeous wine color of the Farylrobin Jane Tall Boots ($298), it’s all almost too much beauty to handle! And while I don’t normally do booties, I have to admit that Dolce Vita’s Jaegar Booties ($160) look pretty cool as do the Aerin Rivette Boots ($398-$498), and as I said when they came out in the preview I love the paddock boot look of the Lien.Do Baja Boots ($238).

The Vicenza Scaled Dot D’Orsays ($108) — cute!

Elsewhere in the shoe section, I think the Nina Z Oath Clogs ($198) look adorable, I’m digging the related patterns of both Raphaella Booz’s Wovenscope Pumps ($158) and the Woven Houndstooth Heels ($158), wondering if I can justify one more pair of suede pumps in the Vanessa Tao Pointed Suede Pumps ($228) and wondering if people can even stand in the beautiful to look at but also painful-looking Vanessa Tao Snowflake Heels ($228). I’m also kind of laughing at the Guilhermina Glitter Heel Pumps ($228), which are pretty spectacular (especially around the new year) because I picked up a very similar shoe at J.Crew Factory last winter for under $100. Oh, Anthro. You sly foxes.

Also coming in slowly: tights! None of them are jumping out at me yet but I do like both the Frosted Floral Knee Socks ($20) and the Dotted Thigh-High Socks ($32), which actually only have one large dot per sock (on the foot), making the name correct but a little misleading in my eyes. Dot Thigh-High Socks would be more accurate to me.

Although there are a ton of Anthro’s fall dresses that I want most of them are a few weeks old now, from the latest crop the items I’m most intrigued by are above. Although not as new I also just noticed the Simone Sheath ($275), Swallowtail Sheath Dress ($328) and Milany Embroidered Pencil Dress ($548), all of which may skew a little old depending on styling but I like them nonetheless.

In skirts, I mentioned the Petal-Pop Wrap Skirt ($98) yesterday for its play on pattern mix; I very much like both patterns of the Belladonna Skirt ($178); the Acanthe Skirt ($98) is HD In Paris’s take on the Tearoom Pencil Skirt; I am very much hoping to stumble across the Astin Wrap Skirt ($128) in one of the NYC Anthropologie stores so I can try it on.

I might need to recreate this entire look.

It looks like for Fall 2015, Anthropologie is thinking long and softly about tops. I’m all for this! The longer tops are really fun to layer with — a cute short vest or crop sweater over them, a similarly long sweater with about an inch of the top peeking out underneath, a leather jacket (or faux) over it…there are plenty of ways to wear these tunics.

Anthropologie’s sweater game is returning strong; besides the two shown above I’m also in love with the Reeve Pullover ($138) from the Peter Som x Made in Kind collaboration. The Cowled Sweater Tunic ($118) is the kind of long, silhouette-lengthening piece I adore and the Salta Cowl Vest ($118) needs a review so I can tell whether it’s amazing or weird.

Over in jacket-land I very much approve of the Sweaterstitch Moto Jacket ($148), wish I had room for one more trench in the Colorblocked Plaid Trench Coat ($168) and of course lust after the Florilege Coat ($268) which you can see on my via my Instagram (and a detail shot too).

What new arrivals are you loving right now?
