Reviews: Flower Vendor Top, The Simplest Shirt, Chinle Cardigan, Poppy Options Cowlneck, Gathering Harvest Cardigan, Fine Arts Tee, Pieces of Fall Top, mystery Deletta Top

This top looks lovely on the model of course.
How did it look on me? Read on to find out.

Red! It’s my weakness. A color I love to wear. So while I was mostly immune to the Flower Vendor Top ($78) in grey, the minute it appeared in red I swooned. I guess I wasn’t alone because I only saw smalls in-store.

Small is my usual size in Deletta and while the top fit very well it was too short. This has been a recurring problem with me recently with all Deletta text tags (the brand has three different tags, each of which come from a different production house). I’d need a medium for some extra length. That issue aside this top is lovely. It’s not sheer (HOORAY!), it’s a bit thicker for winter and both the cowl and flower sat down nicely. Wishlisted!

Sweater blazer? Yes please! The Chinle Cardigan (now $90), style #19281781 went on sale earlier this week and has had a price identity crisis. After being marked down to $70 on Tuesday it was mysteriously bumped up to $90 on Wednesday…boo. I took this tricky cardigan downstairs to try on.

The medium was too small in this soft Ett Twa blazer. A large would have suited me better. I love the side pattern (fairisle!) though it peeked out oddly from under my armpits. For someone who doesn’t like the structured feel of most blazers this is a good alternative.

Fashion is having a minimalist deconstruction moment and I am loving it. It’s one of my favorite styles — I love how pieces are boiled down to their basic elements and forms. Call it a rebellion against ruffles and embellishment (which, incidentally, I also love). Splendid’s The Simplest Shirt ($78) intrigued me with its pullover styling and long side hems.

In the fitting room I was de-intrigued. I hated the way the medium just hung off of my chest. It looked like I was wearing a maternity top. The top felt nice (it’s a rayon jersey) but it’s clearly not right for my body type. Back to the rack.

Speaking of asymmetric hems, I love Weston Wear’s Poppy Options Top ($78). The colors are a mix of white, golden yellow and black in a combo I love. The contrasting cowl doesn’t pull too much attention and is a great touch — white or black would have been too much and the gold might have washed me out.

I find Weston Wear to run big and this top continued that trend. I tried on a small which fit fine. The front pleats added a touch of bulk from the front but I think the right cardigan over this will streamline the look nicely. Plus, this brand is made in the USA. Love that! Wishlisted.

The Best Of The Bunch Cardigan ($228, review here) got a new name and a new color in the Gathering Harvest Cardigan ($228). I was thrilled to see this in-store because I wanted to evaluate it for my birthday haul wishlist. (My birthday is in January. Too soon? Never!) It’s surprisingly thin. I was expecting something warm that I could use on days where the temp hits 40 or so, but I don’t think I could wear this below 50.

I didn’t find much of a difference between a medium and a large. They seemed to fit exactly the same to me. These photos are the large. The pics don’t look too bad but in real life this got a “no” vote sadly. My main issue is with the length. The pockets cut right across my widest part and once again we have an Anthro item that feels too short. I feel like a giant at the store these days. It’s hard to tell if an XL would be better. I’m tempted to order it and see — but not at this price. I’ll wait for sale.

I can’t believe I hadn’d noticed the Fine Arts Tee (now $40), style #19293661 earlier! One of the personal shoppers at the 5th Ave Anthro pulled it for me and I was immediately enamored with the print. It’s beautiful combinations of florals bold or blurred.

The v-neck is very deep. You will want a cami if you’re busty like me or if you prefer a demure look. I am disappointed too that the front accent square looks cool on the model but sad in real life. It’s under-sequined and barely noticeable. Fitwise a small worked well — this is the size I normally take in one.september. It’s pretty and worth a shot on second cut but probably not before.

Tiny’s Pieces of Fall Top (now $40), style #18986711 keeps with the brand’s habit of stitching together various materials. I like the little leafy patch on one shoulder and how warm this top is without being too thick. I think it would work well for my morning dog walk on chilly days. In winter towns I could see this being a great everyday top.

My usual size medium was close-fitting but I think that’s the way this top is meant to be. I might size up to a large for comfort reasons. It’s mostly stiff cotton — not very soft. But it’s not uncomfortable either. I tried this top on when it was full price and didn’t feel it was worth it. On sale it might be. I think I’ll try to hold out for a second cut.

I swear this Deletta top was on the website but it seems to have disappeared. When it reappears I will update this post. The top is $68 and cotton. The cowlneck floats off to one side — a cool effect. There are two gentle pleats down the front.

My usual size medium was big. I’d size down to a small. I like the sleeve and the way this top immediately feels comfortable. This top falls into the casual category. I would wear it to work with a cardigan over it. Something printed. Wishlisted!
