Outfits: Now with motion!

In a very cool new feature unveiled yesterday, Anthropologie’s homepage has been updated with a video outfits set. The interactive flash video contains 10 outfits, each with its own vignette. Everything was shot in New York City — specifically the northern tip of the West Village and the southern part of the Meatpacking District. My much-loved but close to death 6-year-old laptop is getting killed by the video but its new younger brother is handling it all with a yawn.

I recognized a couple of the spots immediately (the signs help too). Left Bank Books on 8th Ave plays host to the “Bookstore” outfit and  Il Cantuccio on Christopher St is the setting for “Bakery.” I love seeing local locations, though it makes me sad that I didn’t know about this when they were filming it!!

The vignettes themselves are fun. It’s great to see how the clothes move. But as helpful as it is to see them in motion, I’m not getting much help on the fit. These models are not shaped like I am and there’s no shape diversity in the set…so really I’d still have to try any and all of these items on to know if they’d work for me. I can eliminate an item if I don’t like the way it moves but I’m not buying based on these videos.

I picked out a few of my favorite looks below. Which set caught your eye? What do you think of the video outfits?

This outfit has a bold mix of patterns that I adore. I would never have thought to pair the skirt and a plaid shirt together but it truly works. It’s hard to pick a favorite element but if pinned down I think the Cool Cat Oxfords ($148) are the piece that makes my heart atwitter.

In this outfit: Button-Peppered Cardigan ($98), Carefree Shirt ($88), Glowing Leaf Skirt ($98), Opaque Tights ($13), Cool Cat Oxfords ($148) and Plot of Gems Bag ($118).

Layers are key in cold and windy places like NYC. Though I love my Deep Woods Toggle Coat from last year (jog your memory here), I must say I adore the Tyndall Coat ($248) as well. The Tassels Away Boots ($258) look fantastic on the model. All of the warm browns this year are perfection. I doubt these boots fit over my calves, but they’re pretty to look at.

In this outfit: Tyndall Coat ($248), Autumn Obi Top ($128), Joe’s Cigarette ($165), Echoes Scarf ($38) and Tassels Away Boots ($258).

Oddly enough, I was admiring the All Along Knit Jacket ($88) but was stumped on what to pair it with. Thanks for the idea Anthropologie! How gorgeous is the Aurora Airs Maxi Dress ($188)? Can’t wait to try either of those items on. This is a great casual fall look that I’d like to replicate.

In this outfit:  All Along Knit Jacket ($88), Aurora Airs Maxi Dress ($188), Rhinebeck Boots ($448), Leaf Cover Scarf ($42),. Infinity Belt ($32) and Autumn Garden Bag ($158).
