anthro email: A city-ing we will go

Anthropologie sent an email to its anthro members yesterday dedicated to weekend travel — specifically to the city. And maybe I’ve just been reading way too much Television Without Pity recently as T and I catch up on back-seasons of our favorite show du jour but this email left me pretty snarky. The outfits themselves are great but the text has plenty of “whaaa…?” moments. “Nothing quite recharges one batteries like a weekend in the city?” Um, what? I don’t know about you but when I lived in suburbia a day in the city left me wiped out, never mind a weekend. And now that I live here it’s weekends in the country that de-stress. The choice of words is just odd to me.

This first outfit is for Friday night and while I think this would be a terrific option on the left coast or down south (correct me if I’m wrong) it’s way too casual for NYC or Chicago. Again though the text is the best part: “When traveling, avoid linen, lightweight cotton, or rayon blends or you’re almost certain to arrive wrinkled.” So I guess we can cross Bailey 44, Ric Rac, Floreat, most of C. Keer and many of Odille’s options off the list? The outfit itself is quite cute though. I like it. I wish anthro had detailed all of the items in it instead of focusing on just two. The goal of this email is to drive conversions, isn’t it? No outfit page makes me sad.

Landmarks Jacket ($88)
Curated Tee ($48)
AG Lane Tomboy Crop ($168)
Stunt Double Booties ($188)
Plaits & Knots Tote ($78)

This second look has more universal appeal to it. My quibble is with the shoes. The heel makes them look very uncomfortable to me for a full day walking around on uneven sidewalks. The text is better here, with two legit suggestions: use a crossbody bag (good for keeping an eye on your stuff) and tuck a canvas tote inside a smaller bag. I myself do this every weekend. Never know when I might end up near a grocery or market or when I might splurge on clothes.

In this look:
Unwinding Cardigan ($88)
Molded & Melded Tee ($48)
AG Lane Tomboy Crop ($168)
Stunt Double Booties ($188)
Tidal Pool Scarf ($88)
Secret Keeper Mini Bag ($168)
anthro’s suggested tote (not shown): Trump L’oeil Tassel Tote ($28)

This last outfit had me until the sandals. Still, it’s cute and functional and man I want the dress so badly! And I agree it’s a great travel choice as you can pretty much just toss it in a bag and it will come out looking fresh. As you can see from the text in the photo above looks like Tracy Reese will deliver a grey version that will be available in mid-April. Can’t wait.

Tidal Pool Scarf ($88)

Speckled Ink Dress ($158, review here)
Tangled Treasures Sandals ($110)

Are you sure about a gray version of the Tracy Reese "Speckled Ink" dress? It looks like the same blue version currently in stores, at least on my monitor…

Chrissy, yes the photo is the blue version but there is text on the photo noting that a grey version is hitting stores in April. I'll edit to clarify.

LOL, I see it now. It's early for me, hahaha. Will definitely be looking for that in grey. Now, if only the new version was a few inches longer, it'd be perfect.

Oooh, I'm so in love with the Speckled Ink dress and was thinking about caving and buying it at full price but if there's another colour coming out…

Roxy, would you consider doing a post about what you would pack/wear for a weekend in the city? I myself am planning a weekend trip to NYC and I have no idea what to wear. My trip is a few months away (so I'm thinking probably summer stuff?). Thanks!

Oh my, I am so feeling the last outfit with the Speckled Ink dress. Loveliness!

The first outfit is so very South Bay California (aka where I grew up) that it's making me laugh. Way off my style though!

Chrissy – ;). Can't wait for the grey! A few extra inches would be wonderful.Hometown Queen – what a tease Anthro is to not show the grey version here! Have you been to the 2nd Anthropologie??!? Dying to hear your thoughts.kristin – sure, I can whip something up tonight.jessica mcclintock bedding – hey, you made my prom dress! For my sophomore year, I went with this dreamy senior to his prom…yeah, that was good times. DEA – agreed, I love the look, but I want different shoes.Alissa – so glad I'm not the only one who got that vibe!

I love all three looks and would absolutely wear them. 🙂

You know what's funny about that first outfit? It would probably be considered "dressed up" where I'm from (TX). You have to pull teeth just to get someone out of jean shorts and tees in most months. Forget a blazer.

The other thing that cracked me up about the first outfit is that the text says AVOID wearing linen and cotton, and the jacket featured is actually made out of, yes, a linen/cotton blend. Whuh? And the speckled ink dress in either gray or blue will be fine with me, even if I do end up seeing it everywhere. 🙂

Roxy: YES! It's fantabulous! I've posted some pictures and will post the other eighty-dozen or so at some point – I couldn't stop snapping pictures, I probably looked like a really crap spy!
