I am not sure how this happened but these days anything with a full skirt is dubbed “Carrie Bradshaw style.” Much as I love Ms. Bradshaw I can’t tell if that is meant as a true compliment or a backhanded one. I for one love full skirts. They catch the air, they’re great for dancing and they make me happy dammit. Happy!
I wish I were still in school so I could wear the Cloaked Vista Dress ($168) to a dance. Aside from participating in the spontaneous Broadway musicals breaking out every so often on the street I don’t really dance much anymore. I feel like I’d be doing this dress a disservice just wearing it to work. I’d look fabulous but the dress would want more!
I tried on this Floreat frock in a size 6 and was in love. Looking at the pictures now I see the skirt is much fuller than it felt. The bodice had plenty of room for my 34Ds but B cups and below are going to be left with extra space. Kim took a shot which shows the yellow underlayer of crinoline (scroll down in the post). I didn’t even think to check out whether the crinoline is removable or not.
This dress is going to be a winner with anyone in love with 50s shapes or deco lovers. One of my friends is getting this dress for her birthday. She just doesn’t know it yet.
I was very surprised to see Anthropologie release two such similar pieces in the same season. First there was Odille’s Dewpoint Blouse ($68, review here). Now Edme & Esyllte has released the decidedly similar Secret Message Blouse ($68). I wonder if both design houses liked one design and Anthropologie gave them the go-ahead to each release their interpretations.
I come down squarely on Team Odille in this case. The Dewpoint Blouse was heaven on me. In the size 6 the Secret Message Blouse was a mess on me. Button pulling across my chest. Loose frump in the back. Not flattering at all. I like the cross-stitching on the shoulders and the ruched sleeves. But no love in the fit. I think that straighter shapes will find the Secret Message Blouse looks great. For the curvy peeps like me though this blouse went back to the rack.
What a lucky friend, she will be thrilled! The Cloaked Vista dress is awesome. It's something I never expected to like, but then bam, once you see that full skirt on you (and glimpse the crinoline beneath!), it's love. Unlike you, I actually found it pretty small in the chest and had to size up to an 8, but I have a ribcage that's on the larger side.I'm loving the Cascading Folliage dress that came out on the site this morning. Hoping to see it in stores so I can check out its fabulousness 🙂

goldenmeans, interesting that you sized up as I find we are normally the same size. Thinking about it now you're right that the dress was a bit huggy across my ribs but not to an uncomfortable degree.
