Stream of consciousness: Anthropologie June catalogue

Want to shop through the June catalogue on your own? Here it is.

Taking a cue from vintage concert posters, Anthropologie’s June catalogue features Hatch Show Print text, musicians as models and Austin, Texas as its backdrop. I’ve been to SXSW many times and it looks like they shot this catalogue in March — right about that time of year. A winner in my book from a design perspective as Anthro continues exploring some new points of view.

Lol…I am new at shopping from Anthro. Before I mainly purchased from Jcrew but their quality started deteriorating and Anthro had so MUCH more to offer than the crew. Anyways since you keep mentioning "Anthro didn't used to be this way"- I just got curious as to what you mean by that? Is it not as unique as before or what? I mean whats the diff between the quality/uniqueness now vs in the past? Thanks for such a informative blog.

Hi Anon, welcome!! In the same way J.Crew is experimenting with incorporating current trends into its designs Anthro is also somewhat moving away from the flowy, vintage-inspired frocks I know it for and more towards a slightly more mature Urban Outfitters (UO owns Anthropologie). This might not be a bad thing but it's certainly different. The quality at Anthro has been consistently high. I have had very few quality issues at Anthro — far fewer than at J.Crew.In the context of the catalogs Anthro's catalogues have been almost Victorian-inspired for years with saturated photos, lots of focus on architecture and theatre. They almost looked like a 18th/19th century painting. Now they're becoming more modern and I just kind of miss how they used to be. I suppose it would be silly for them to stay the same forever.

i really like the catalog and after living in austin for two years it's a nice memory of soco and the breakfast tacos i miss! :)that said, there wasn't any clothing in it that i want or even have any interest in. sad. 🙁

I would say like burntphotograph: I was a little disapointed when I saw the June catalog because there is almost nothing I would see myself wearing. But let's see the good side of it: I will save some money this month! On an artistic level, I really liked the music them and the artists featurettes. But I think this June catalog was a little sad in color and global feel. I would have see this theme more for an Autumn catalog. For the first month of Summer, I would have expected something happier.
