In-store: plenty of sales racks

I went to 2 Anthropologie stores yesterday looking for new Spring arrivals, but I was distracted at both by the large sales racks! I can’t remember the last time Anthropologie so aggressively announced a sale in stores, but the Soho store in NYC had large sales banners that I could see clearly from far up West Broadway.

Upon entering the store the front real estate, normally reserved for meandering around the new arrivals, was instead laid out Filene’s Basement-style with 4 large sales racks. The wall racks also had sales items up front. I didn’t mind the classic layout at all — it made it very easy to browse. This was in addition to the normal sale area in the back. I was surprised to see some items that were relatively new releases — like the Spruce & Moon Cardigan (now $90) — already on sale. And I applaud those of you with patience, because I admit to being slightly annoyed that some of my recent purchases were now on sale for close to 50% off.

I think I tried on 5 or so products as well as a few new items. I ended up purchasing the Field Day Tee (now $30) in dark grey and the Labryinthine Tee (now $30) in ivory. I did not find either the Tivoli Scoopneck or the Meadow Squill Top in-store, and it was kind of weird when I asked the sales associates if they had either top in-store and no one even knew what the tops looked like (conclusion: I am now officially brand-obsessed!).

In the home section I saw the Cosmina quilt that I am dying for on sale for $199 (originally $500!) but I still couldn’t justify the purchase. I am hoping it stays a couple of weeks until my birthday when I think I may have an Anthro gift card to put towards the buy.

I was so excited by the range of sale items available that I headed up to Rockefeller Center. It was close to closing time so the store wasn’t crowded, which I loved. Their sale racks were all downstairs. The additional racks were right when you walked down. It was the busiest area in the store. And again I found plenty to try on. I had a hard time deciding whether to get the Light Touch Cardigan (now $50) in orange or beige.

I’ll post on the new items I tried on tonight or tomorrow. Have you been to Anthro’s stores this week to see the sales items? How is the selection where you live?

Love the Field Day tee. I need to try it on though. I have big shoulders – the square neck might not work.I had better go check out the store. Need to get B jeans and Anthropologie is a stones throw away from the Gap. I wish my store had shoes. Sigh

Oooh, I just ordered the Labyrinthine tee in ivory…wonder how I missed that Tuesday. I already own the shirt in grey and when I put it on today my husband commented on how awesome it is.It just about killed me to pay the shipping fee, though.

Georgine — I also have fairly broad shoulders and the Field Day tee was flattering to my neckline. Actually I think people with slanted shoulders will find that the shirt slides down for them and may not find it as comfortable.Jacquelyn — I felt the same way when I saw the tee on sale. In fact when it first came out I thought it would never work for me. But once I tried it on it was very slimming and comfy. Enjoy the tee! It is lovely.
