Reviews: I got the blues, part one

Note: There were no noticeable second markdowns on the website this morning. Several of you pointed out items you’d seen marked down again in-store in yesterday’s Sale thread — feel free to continue chatting in there! If the list of items reaches critical mass I’ll make a new post for it.

With Leifsdottir, it’s the prints that always get me. I am drawn to this brand because of the vibrant patterns is each piece is swathed from. It was no different with the Blooming Brilliance Blouse ($228). In its beautiful blue hue I had to try it on.

I grabbed my normal size 6. It was a close fit around my hips but good everywhere else. There is a side zip on this silk top but I didn’t need to use it. I love the feel of the silk and the color of this top worked well against my skin tone. This top could easily work with many different shapes of skirts as well as slacks. It’s also available in pink from Bloomingdales.

The defining element of this top is also my issue with it sadly. The one-sleeve style takes this shirt above work territory and into the party top realm. I don’t attend so many dress-up parties to get a lot of use out of this top. I hate to say it but I wish the top was either tank style (in which case it’s overpriced) or that it had two sleeves to make it more versatile. Sadly I do not live the kind of life or have the kind of means where dropping $228 on a party top is acceptable. Back to the rack.

Floreat’s fit continues to be a sea of confusion for me. Above is the Parachuting Petals Top ($128), a flowy blouse with plenty of room to spare. I grabbed my true size 6 and was swimming in it. Were I to buy this top I’d size down to a 4, meaning true size 2/0s may find themselves sized out. I suppose it’s all about how you wear this top — tucked in the extra room might not be a big deal since it’s mostly airy towards the bottom.

This is another silk top rendered in a more teal-like blue. I love the pattern at the bottom of the shirt though the horizontal tiers are successfully making me look wide. I like the soft ruffles at the neckline but I do not like the capped flutter sleeves. I think this top would be a winner over shorts. I will wait for sale on this one. Wishlisted.

I have a round of applause ready for C.Keer. This is the Unerring Tank ($48) and the length is just awesome. In a sea of cropped top after cropped top this is an oasis of length. I put this cottom top on and immediately felt comfortable. My true size medium seemed like the right fit.

While the shirt itself is the right length I think the pattern down the front is a little too long. If the box over the bust were an inch shorter the ruching below would have been at my true waist. That would have solved the puckering issue I had over my digestive system. I’m not sure that the side shot accurately portrays what was happening — the shirt was literally creating a pooch where the ruching is. This is not a look I can work with. On sale I’d give this top a shot in a small to see if the issue is fixed.

A similar yet different tank is Bordeaux’s Fancy That Tank ($58) aka the Buds & Bunches Tee. The little rosettes around the neckline are cute yet understated in the same shade as the top. After the failure (for me, anyway) of last year’s Necklace Tank from Deletta this seemed like a better-fitting alternative.

I grabbed my normal size medium and the fit was perfect. The ruched bib down the front drew attention to my curves without over-emphasizing anything. I love the braided straps and the feel of the soft cotton. This is one top I couldn’t resist. I bought it immediately. For now I’ll wear it under cardigans and come warmer weather this will be one top strong enough to carry a look on its own.

Have you tried any of these tops on? More blue coming later today.

Hi Roxy,Great reviews! I think the Unerring Tank looks fabulous on you, but if you were distracted by the fit (or lack thereof), that's what matters.Cheers,Sarah

Too bad about the Blooming Brilliance Blouse, but what you said made perfect sense. Thank you!I tried the Fancy That Tank over the weekend (in the sky color too) and like you, I had to take it home with me. Love the weight of fabric and length. Like you said, great under cardis now but come summer it is structured enough to wear with shorts/skirts. I also tried the black version on but found all the detail was lost in the dark. The orange was really bright, no?

blue is your color! i love the leifsdottir top–as a stay at home mom, i can't really justify that price tag either, but on sale….!a couple of second cuts noticed online (some from my wishlist) lacemaker skirt, to-and-fro skirt, fargyle skirt, wrapped in ruffles cardi and havana sweatercoat.enjoy!

I also love the Fancy That Tank, purchased in blue. An immediate attraction and the fit does not disappoint My figure is totally opposite of Roxy's (no boobs!), so I think this is a top that will flatter many shapes.Haven't seen the other tops in stores yet, thanks for reviews!

I am loving the Fancy That Tank on you! The Sky color is gorgeous. Thanks for your reviews!~Sarah

The Blooming Brilliance blouse looks way better on you than it did on the catalog model. I didn't realize that the poof was a sleeve though, I think it would've been better as just a ruffly embellishment. I agree, the sleeve makes it look party top-ish and if there were two sleeves … hello 1982!

God the Blooming Brilliance Blouse (wow at the alliteration – is it me, or are they trying too hard?) is gorgeous. Shame about the lack of versatility though.

I have determined that I seriously lack blue in my wardrobe. I am going to make a conscious effort to add more with future Anthro purchases.

  9. February 17, 2010 / 3:24 pm

I will be looking for the Fancy That tank at my local Anthro this weekend!

Roxy-Loving the Fancy That tank on you-and now i wish i'd grabbed it to try on the last time I was at Anthro…I think I want/need the black version…so pretty!

Too bad about the Leifsdottir shirt but the unerring tank looks great and could be super versatile for spring/summer.sugarandspiceandnice.blogspot.com

Does anybody know if the collected shapes necklace is as big as it appears in the model picture? I love it that size. However, the product shot it seems a lot smaller! Thanks!

If the Blooming Brilliance blouse goes on sale, you should definitely get it. It looks SO nice on you! The color of the fabric goes great with your hair.

Those all look great on you, but I had the same issue with the Unerring Tank. I saw it online and it immediately went on my wishlist…but when I saw it in the store and tried it, the pattern/ruching was just in the wrong place. However, it looks a lot better on you than it did me:)In the photos the Leifsdottir top looks like one tank strap/one ruffle sleeve, but now i see that it is a poufy half-sleeve. Sigh. I could have worked with a ruffle, but you are correct–it looks like a party top.

I also purchased the "Fancy That Tank" but in the crazy bright orange color. I just decided to be bold and get the orange. It looks good under navy or gray cardigans now and come summer, with a tan, it will look awesome with denim or white. I have no chest (34b) and it looks great on me too – so I think it is a universally flattering shirt. Great price point too for the quality.

Roxy Blooming Brilliance Blouse looks perfect on you…but still in this economy I love the way you can be so logical:)I am sureit will go on sale!

  17. February 17, 2010 / 5:53 pm

I love the Fancy That tank! I went to the store this weekend and was hoping to pick it up but all they had was black and I didn't want that color. The blue looks great on you!

  18. February 17, 2010 / 5:57 pm

i love blue! Thanks for your reviews :)I have a request–can you review the Midnight Daisy jacket? Its been out for a few weeks…I bought it recently and am trying to determine if it's too "pretty" to be functional. Would love to hear your thoughts!

  19. February 17, 2010 / 7:27 pm

Wow, that Blooming Brilliance Blouse is really gorgeous. I never would have given it a second look if it weren't for your review. It looks way better on you than it does on the model. I have to wonder why the catalog stylists paired it with the Galloping Filly Skirt. I think that the patterns compete too much.Sadly, I don't go to enough parties to justify the expense… Hopefully it will make it to the sale rack!

Hi Roxy,Sorry, totally random question that maybe you can help me with.I posted a comment a few days ago asking if you thought I should return my Cockadoodle dress and wait for it to go on sale. I would, but here's the thing – I'm going out of town next week for 2 weeks! (With no internet access)If I was going to be around I would return it now and wait for it to go on sale. But I'm worried it will go on sale while I'm gone. I haven't worn mine or taken the tags off, so I could return it when I get back if it hasn't gone on sale. But if it has, would they give me a price adjustment since it still has the tags? I don't want to miss out on it but I would wait for it to go on sale if I was going to be around. I don't know what to do! Help!

Hi Sarah – thank you! I think I will give it another shot on sale, I just can't justify dropping any money on a piece I'm not head over heels for. My closet is getting too full! :)Katie – I agree with both your points on the Fancy That Tank. I think the orange would be perfect for fall, but we're so far removed from that now that I want spring colors…green, blue, yellow, etc.stef – thanks for the list of second cuts!Jennifer – glad to hear the tank works on different body types. 🙂 I have a feeling it will be a fast seller. Thanks Sarah! LOL @ Zombie Girl name.Lisa – that is such a nice compliment, thanks so much. *blushes* The puffiness of the sleeve was a surprise to me. I was expecting a ruffle.Hometown Queen – pretty and ready to party. If only I were (was? — my grammar teacher is frowning somewhere) a party girl.Betty – we could swap, I think half my tops are blue!Betsy – Good luck! I hope it's there. I fooled myself into thinking there was an ivory version but I was wrong.Sharon – I like the black version as a going out top. The price point is right I think to make this a relatively painless impulse buy. :DBrewer Family – I have not seen the necklace in-store yet, unfortunately. Has anyone else?tinypaperheart – why thank you. *bows*christine – if the sale price is right, I'm there.Shannon (Coco@rubyshoeblues) – I'm sorry that you had the same issue with the tank. Pooch = no go.Denise – I love that you were bold and got the orange! When the top goes on sale, I might add the orange to my collection o'tops for fall.plum – agreed, I've yet to see a Leifsdottir item sell out.Mia – my local Anthro was still updating their displays when I was there yesterday, so maybe blue will be in your local store this weekend.Shelly – sure, I actually tried it on last weekend and have the review set up to run tomorrow. It runs small but I loved it!!Lola – I also found the outfit odd, they recreated it at the Soho Anthro and it looked really off proportionally in real life to me.

Anon @ 2:51, the dress is so new, I can't see it going on sale in the next two weeks. Stores won't PA an item if you bought it more than 2 weeks ago…they might be willing to make an exception if you were out of town but I wouldn't count on that.

  23. February 18, 2010 / 1:50 pm

Hi Roxy,I immediately bought the Fancy That top too. It was one of the best fitting shirts I've ever gotten…gorgeous!

  24. February 18, 2010 / 2:03 pm

Carrie – agreed! Nice pickup. 🙂

  25. February 19, 2010 / 4:14 am

that fancy that tank is so cute and looks fabulous on you!! i can't wait to try it on, hopefully it'll come somewhat close to looking good on me too! I have a feeling I'm going to want it in every color 🙂
