Can you help me find these books? (UPDATE!)

Ladies, you are amazing. I’m sure you hear it on a daily basis anyway but I’m so impressed. A little over three weeks ago I asked for your help to locate the additional titles in Penguin’s Clothbound Classics series, from which Anthropologie carries several titles (noted below). And you came through in spades! Between skillfully finding out the release dates for the next series in the US, locating them abroad and suggesting contacts over at Penguin directly I was blown away by the helpful suggestions.

Thanks to you, my collection has grown from what you see above…

…to 5 more! And making them oh so special is that these new titles made their way to me all the way from Australia. As in across oceans. From Down Under to the City that Never Sleeps. Consider my jaw dropped. Community member Usha read my pleas and just happened to be coming to NYC shortly after my original post. She offered to check her local Borders for me and fly whatever she found to me. I could not believe my luck. This past Friday we met up at the Time Warner Center, exchanged pleasantries and I left 5 books closer to the complete collection.

Better yet, two of the titles Usha found for me, Madame Bovary and Crime & Punishment, are apparently out of print now and super hard to find. Not that I’m ever giving these up. It means a lot to me that this collection is coming to me from all over the world. In addition to the 5 Usha found, community member Laurieanne is sending me 3 from the UK. I could not be more excited!! They look so pretty in my entertainment center…

I had some friends over on Saturday and they oohed and aahed appropriately. (The books are above the TV on the bridge display.) The left side shelf has just enough space left for the 7 titles left in the collection. The next set of books is being released here on March 10, 2010. You can read more over at design*sponge (thanks to Katie K. for the link!).

Below are the titles currently available from Anthropologie. I can’t recommend these books enough. Not only are they awesome titles to read, they look so pretty on display. These books have reminded me how much I love to read. They’ve reminded me how nice it is to have a library-style display. They’ve reminded me how badly I need to dust.

Great Expectations ($20)
Cranford ($20)
The Picture of Dorian Gray ($20)
Sense and Sensibility ($20)
Wuthering Heights ($20)
Jane Eyre ($20)
Pride and Prejudice ($20)

Hi there! I follow your blog and was pleasantly surprised when I saw that you too fell in love with the Penguin Classics… I saw themon the Anthro site late last year and did some research and bought them from another site for less… since then, I've also picked up all of the next round of releases (Alice, Women, etc) from a shop in Canada… which leaves me super sad I can't find Crime and Punishment or Madame Bovary… I see them going on ebay for several hundred dollars, but I simply would not pay that. I know you were lucky enough to connect with one of your readers to find them – congrats! Do you have any advice or other thoughts on how I can get these? I don't know anyone from across the pond (so to speak) to ask to look for them and I've exhausted the WWW, or at least my skills on it… so any advice would be fabulous 🙂 If you do, please email me at ebrock2007@gmail.com Thanks!Emily

I am in Emily's boat!I am a total bibliophile and would love to have Crime and Punishment (it's one of my favorite classics, especially Penguin's translation) but there's no way I could ever afford to pay several hundred dollars for a book. Does anyone know where I could locate a copy of this and Madame Bovary? I would love to work something out, if anyone is willing to lend their aid. Please drop me an email at susie.q@sbcglobal.net if you've got an idea! Thank you so much!

I, too, am DESPERATELY seeking Madame Bovary and Crime & Punishment! They are the only two that I am missing. I would be forever indebted to anyone who could help me find them at an affordable price! twodogsagirl@gmail.com
