Quick hits: The Big Tops post

Dang this morning’s post title would have worked way better last month. Oh well. I tried on a whole bunch of tops at Rockefeller Center and have just a bit to say about each. Breakdown below.

Flowing Tiers Tank ($68):
Only nice things to say about this top online,
I’m left scratching my head and wondering why.
That’s not to say that this tank isn’t nice
But my normal size small was a bit too short to entice,
And it’s clear that tiered things are becoming my vice.
The top ruffle’s fit kinda funky,
Maybe it’s because I’m rather busty.
I like the rock vibe this top is giving off
Still overall I’m left to scroff
As I send it back to the rack.

Sprinkled Shells Tank ($88):
O hai pretty top that comes in both grey and blue,
Come with me to the fitting room so I can adore you.
You’re made by Deletta but you have an odd tag,
I wonder if you were made in a different spot on the map.
The sequins that adorn you mimic seashells nicely,
But the bottom eyelit area is hard to describe concisely.
It’s too loose, too heavy, kinda widening, too drapey,
In spite of these flaws I find myself drawn to you baby.
You’ve been wishlisted in my usual size small.

Ming Garden Top ($78):
This is another silk front/jersey back top by tiny,
Very similar to the Buds & Stripes Top ($78, review here) so shiny.
I grabbed a medium because I was size unsure,
And it seemed to work well though not 100% demure.
I am still confused by the uselessly long waist tie,
Or why the top is two patterns as though the designers could not decide,
Perhaps a coin flip next time can help choose a side.
As in one.
Still this top is fun,
And would make a good layering top,
So wishlisted for now until the price drops.

Golden Grove Top ($68):
Wow! I must say the online reviews are not kind,
Despite their misgivings I gave this C.Keer top a try.
They called the color kind of drab
But I find it a sandy neutral that’s rather fab,
That will match well with neutrals, too many to tab
(Oh alright: white, navy blue, darker or lighter browns but no mids
Unless you want to wear the uniform of a just-outside kid.)
It’s true this is rather shapeless so belt it
With a wide leather number for a better fit.
The top passed the shake test so I feel the adornments are secure,
I have put this on my wishlist in a small for me to soon procure.

Botany Lesson Tank ($68):
I can’t say why I was drawn to this top I’d normally hate,
Normally flowers around my waist are not so great.
I can’t say this Deletta top left me head over heels,
The pattern near my hips is kind of a bum deal,
The Anthro mirrors were being tricky and a bit unreal.
In the store I thought my normal size small flattered
But once I got home I saw more of a disaster,
And I couldn’t get back to the store to return any faster.
I wondered if a medium would be any better
But that was way too big and so I moved on to a sweater,
Which will be covered in a future post.

Creative Outlet Tank ($58):
Here’s a top that looked great from the side
But from the front made me look kinda wide,
It’s by Bordeaux so there’s plenty of ruching and detail,
Though it showed off my figure the small was too tight for the sale.
I noticed this tank also comes in green,
Which is just the right shade to make my hazel eyes gleam.
I think one size up is the right decision,
Wishlisted for now as $58 is too much for my vision.

Paisley Swoop Tank ($58):
High hopes for this top when it first appeared,
But pictures don’t lie and this looks worse than I’d feared,
How could you let me down like this C.Keer??!
This tank has a Goldilocks of issues for me,
It’s too short, not cut right and looks bad as you see.
I tried on the small because that’s what I normally am
Though sizing up to a medium didn’t help in this exam.
I think this top is just not cut for bigger chests,
Which happens sometimes much to my regret.
Back to the rack.

Circled Adornments Tank ($68):
I put aside any visceral reactions,
Of doilies and such to try on this distraction,
And to my surprise once on it was attraction.
Another tiered tank that’s captured my fancy,
Perhaps this Deletta top put me in a trance…y,
I will warn this for the slim and petite out there,
I’m wearing a small so buyer beware,
You may be sized out.
I think I’m a bit crazy to like this top,
I’ve wishlisted it anyway to give it more thought.

Love the rhyming!I LOVED the Golden Grove Top when I tried it on last week. It reminds me of the Flash & Texture Tank which I own. I have it on my must-purchase list when I get my birthday discount card. I have to say, Roxy, that the Creative Outlet Tank is very KAPOW for your figure in a good way. 😀 I saw this in the store the other day and I'll have to give it a go in the fitting room next time I am in store.

Hahaha, great post Roxy! I love the Circled Adornments Tank on you- I definitely had sizing issues with it myself, but figured it'd look great on the right person. You proved my theory correct! And I had the same darn thought about the Paisley Swoop Tank, but kept it anyway 'cuz the purple color was too pretty to pass up. I'm hoping to layer it. Wiiiish me luck. *sighs*

i actually liked the Flowing Tiers on you.

Love the flowing tiers on you (and I am not normally drawn to these big ruffly kind of tops). I think it looks very flattering and I want to try it myself next time I am in store. I also thought the Creative outlet tank looked great, too. I love the green color and already have it in my bag!lesley

Forgot to say I LOVE the reviews in form of poetry! original!lesley

  6. March 11, 2010 / 2:07 pm

LOL, love the format! And you look great in almost all of these tops. I think the Ming Garden top is especially flattering on you. The waist tie is perfect for your figure and it makes you look perfectly proportioned. I am sure you could easily modify the tie so that it is shorter. The only one I am not really fond of is the Sprinkled Shells Tank. It is too drapey and does nothing for your beautiful figure. I also think the Paisley Swoop is kind of blah.

  7. March 11, 2010 / 2:38 pm

I think you look good in the Flowing Tiers Tank and the Creative Outlet Tank (though I'm with you and it's pricey for a tank). They all look pretty good on you!Loving the rhymes! Cute rhymes for all those cute tops!

i feel like a broken record but the ming top is killing me — i love the pattern but it's way too too low-cut. i also think it would look better about an inch shorter but at least it's easy to hem, making a higher neckline is pretty much impossible.why anthro why? 🙁

  9. March 11, 2010 / 2:41 pm

delurking to say that this was the best post yet!!!

  10. March 11, 2010 / 2:50 pm

ROFL, I vote for all future reviews in this format! You have made this former English major very happy. <3(The sprinkled shells tank is a love of mine, but I think I'll be sized out, booooo.)

I ordered the Circled Adornments Tank but still undecided on it. I guess maybe after seeing it on you it may be a sizing issue. It looks adorable on you though.

  16. March 11, 2010 / 3:23 pm

Love your little poems, and love even more when you review tops! I have a large chest and went down a size on the dark blue deletta top with the seashells on it, and I love it! Great for summer, although, i'm not sure what to wear it with. Anyway, some cute tops on you!

you are SO funny!! I was giggling the entire time reading this!(I agree with Angela, it was worth de-lurking for!!:)

  18. March 11, 2010 / 3:31 pm

Loved your poems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!hahaha but must've taken quite the effort, well for me it would've taken a whileee and maybe a couple drinks. haha. Love the last top…but reading the reviews I don't know what to size myself at. Okay if i'm a 10-12sz usually large and I have 36DDD (VAVOOM!) should I size up to an extra large? What do all you busty gals think?

  19. March 11, 2010 / 3:40 pm

Wow wow wow, bravo Roxy, bravo! I'm very impressed 🙂 And that Circled Adornments Tank look fantastic on you 😉

Hee hee! Review Haiku. Okay, so it's not really haiku, but I like how that rhymed. :-)Oh, and I actually think that the Flowing Tiers tank looks great on you, especially in that last photo. Day-um, hot mama!

  22. March 11, 2010 / 4:32 pm

Loved the rhyming! In response, a haiku: Gorgeous quirky looksFashion from our favorite shopAnthropologie

Hey I love your poetic reviews!!I especially love the Circled Adornments tank on you, it looks great!! After seeing it on you I know I can pull it off too. I definitely think you should get it!

  26. March 11, 2010 / 6:14 pm

I like the Flowing Tiers and the Ming Garden top on you! I'm sorry I don't always leave a comment but I follow you religiously. Thanks for taking all the effort to try on Anthro's new items and sharing your thoughts on them. I haven't been to Anthro in AGES but I feel like I can shop vicariously through you! =)

Circle Adornments top is lovely but it generates the WORST static cling. It stuck to my hair when trying on then stuck to itself! I just can't imagine spraying it with static guard all the time 🙁

    March 11, 2010 / 7:21 pm

that was awesome – all the tops look good but I really love the first one!

  29. March 11, 2010 / 7:40 pm

I will never stop laughing:)I love how you wrote your reviews in this post. I thought the Flowing Tiers top was flattering on you, and I ended up buying the Ming Garden Top a couple weeks ago…so if you don't mind, would you tell me what skirt you are wearing in the review photo? Because in the picture it looks like they are a good match! (I am guessing a past season J Crew…am I right?)

  30. March 11, 2010 / 7:45 pm

Haha, this post totally cheered me up after a rough day. The rhyming reviews are hilarious!

  31. March 11, 2010 / 8:25 pm

You are so awesome for rhyming!

  32. March 11, 2010 / 9:13 pm

hi roxy, just curious if you or any of the readers have tried on the molded and meded tee and if so what thoughts were on fit etc.

  33. March 11, 2010 / 9:25 pm

What's up w/the format, I wondered, as I read. Then I realized the great rhymes you shared from your head. Awesome job, Roxy! The creative outlet tank makes your waist look *this big* — surely you'll be bringing it out in full force this spring/summer when you can wear more fitted clothing…Thanks for all the pics.

  34. March 11, 2010 / 9:25 pm

The Circles Adornment tank looks SO great on you!! When I saw it, I totally realized what the designer was going for. When I tried it on, the layers were TOO fluffy and definitely poked out. It added about 20 ounds to me. But on you, it totally works. I'm jealous, it's a beautiful top! 🙂

  35. March 11, 2010 / 9:26 pm

^ I meant, when I saw it on you, I totally realized what the designer was going for. 🙂 When I saw it on me, I just saw a hot mess.

  36. March 11, 2010 / 10:35 pm

Word on the Circled Adornments Tank. I love the color and the softness of the layers but I get this feeling that something will snag. My head is telling me to return it and wait for it to go on sale.

  37. March 11, 2010 / 11:07 pm

Hahaha that was too cute. Thanks for the laugh!

  38. March 11, 2010 / 11:22 pm

Hi ladies! Sorry I couldn't chime in during the day today, I got sucked into some hard work. Glad you enjoyed the rhyming, I'll break it out again at some point. 🙂 Betty – Hahaha, Kapow huh? Well in that case maybe I'll give it another shot. Thank you for the compliment!! And Happy Birthday month! Chloe – I knew I had seen on someone, and that someone was you! I can't wait to see your OOTD for the Paisley Swoop Tank, though I am bummed it didn't work on me. Bronzi – hmm, really? I just wish the top ruffle was different, then I'd like it better. Lesley – I love the Creative Outlet tank in green. I think you and I will both be rocking that one soon. 🙂 Sarah – You're right, the Ming Garden was the one I found most flattering in this reviews set. I agree the Sprinkled Shells does nothing yet I'm still drawn to it. Why? Cause it's pretty. Gemma – thank you! I appreciate the feedback on what looks good (or bad) as sometimes I can't really tell. I am much better at evaluating how things look on others. It's hard sometimes to put that critical eye on yourself. Anon @ 9:40 – I think that the fit models must have cups smaller than a C. Because my friend who is a 34B is covered fine in almost all Anthro tops while I have to pass on some due to much exposure for day. Angela – thanks for delurking to say so! Much appreciated. 🙂 pennyfarthing – haha, I will do another one again in the future. Has to be a surprise though. 😉 Katie – glad you liked it. On sizing, I have noticed that Anthro's tops are running a bit bigger this spring. This makes me happy but I understand how it would be frustrating for the slim. More sizes are needed!!lleila – haha, it was hard work writing this post but also fun! Athena – I love your poem in return! *claps* Add me to the empty wallet club. Too much I want. Joy – give it a shot! I'd love to know how it works out for you, maybe I just need some peer pressure to convince to me.Annie – It does seem to run big — I wish Anthro's sizing chart was better for this kind of stuff.Sara – so you got the blue? I have to say I'm leaning towards it. I might try an x-small next time just to see how it works.jodi – thanks for delurking to say you liked it!! I am smiling ear to ear from all the nice comments.Hazel – don't size up! Try your normal size first. I'm a 34d and had plenty of room in the small.goldenmeans – *curtsies* thank you! I think I am going to make the Circle Adornments tank work in my closet. Somehow. ShanChloe – yay for all the de-lurking! I hope that you are not sized out, the top is too cute.Betsy – LOL. I guess I am just not seeing it. But I am glad you like it! :)Chelsea – Ah, Bravo! I was going to do haikus at first but it was taking too long to syllable-ize correctly. Yes I just made up a word.Molly – anytime. :DEllen – rhymes will be back, but not every day because I feel it would grow grating. I enjoyed writing this one.Stacy O – OK, I'm convinced. I will buy it on my next excursion. LOL.Sandy – Funny, because I should also be shopping vicariously yet I always come home with a bag. My wallet cries. ;)Carmen – Good to know! I will have to see how that works, my hair especially doesn't do well against static.Anonymous @ 2:21 – why thank you. :)Coco – yes it is J.Crew! It's the Vintage Cord skirt (2008 version) in honey glaze.Tien – hey thanks lady! You're pretty awesome too.Lola – rough day here too. Your reviews are up! I hope your day improves.ashley – I haven't seen it yet but I'm hoping it's in-store tomorrow when I go.Melanie – it does puff out a bit but I think the tiers hid that on me. I'm sad it didn't work for you though.Jessebel – Oh, sale. You never can come soon enough. I have 5 tops in my cart waiting for Tuesday (at least, I hope they all get marked down on Tuesday). Carly – :). I needed a laugh today too!

  39. March 12, 2010 / 1:39 am

Hi Roxy, If you don't mind me asking, I would love to know what jeans your wearing in these photos? They are very flattering on you.

  40. March 12, 2010 / 1:40 am

Corie – they are Gap Long & Leans from last year. 🙂 Medium wash.

  41. March 12, 2010 / 8:57 am

The Flowing Tiers Tank did not interest meUntil I saw it on you, Roxy. Now I think it is prettyAnd flatters you nicely.(Anonymous, I agree with you about the low-cut tops. I have to pass up SO MANY things because I have a very small chest, very narrow shoulders, and I just can't wear low necklines.)

  42. March 12, 2010 / 2:50 pm

Roxy, you kick so much ass! What an ingenious way to to the reviews. "Goldilocks of issues" Love it. The Creative Outlet tank looked great on you, by the way, Miss Scarlett. You have the teeniest waist!

  43. April 21, 2010 / 8:50 pm

fyijust picked up the Ming Garden Top for $39.95 although it is still full price on website. My local b&m and a few ming tops and some in the other print that was similar in style.Go figure.
