Deja Vu…

Tivoli Scoopneck (SP 09) vs. Through the Clouds Tank (WI 09)
RicRac vs. C. Keer.
I only wish I had a shot of the Tivoli from the back. IDENTICAL.

From the Ground Up Top (SP 09) vs. Tangents Top (WI 09)
Deletta vs. C. Keer.
Not quite the same but not very different either.

What the heck is going on here?? I was looking at Anthropologie’s new arrivals for today. I feel like I already own some of these items…and looking in my closet I realize I do already own some of these. Sure the names and necklines have been changed to protect the innocent but the similarities are uncanny. What gives, Anthro? Has anyone else noticed the repeat offenders?

Maybe I’m making too big of a deal about this. I really like both of these new tops. Then again of course I like them! That’s why I bought them the first time around. Anthro does have a history of modifying and re-releasing items. (Lil dresses, anyone?) And come to think of it there are brand staples that I pick up every year and look forward to (i.e. J.Crew’s Jackie Cardgian). I think I find this surprising more because I expect new and different from Anthropologie and this strikes me as neither. Maybe they’ve been doing this all along and I just notice it more now that I’m poring over items for the blog.

So what do you think? OK or head-scratching?

um, isn't the Felted Lei Cardigan pretty similar to the Starflower Cardigan from the cover of the December 2008 catalog? just saying. Sandra in Indy

funny… i thought the same, especially with the first top and theres a belt that looks like a modified version of the very popular snakebite belt.

Hm. I actually like the "improved" versions better, hahahha. So it's fine with me! I actually think a lot of retailers are doing this right now (look at J Crew and all of the ruffled tops and version of ruffled tops, yikes!) and I can't help but wonder if the recession has something to do with it- for a brief moment, trends aren't moving quite as quickly, which means I can get more wear out of what I already have. 😀

Hey Roxy! Two things – I was wondering if next time you do a fitting room day, could you try on a couple of the blazers anthro has? I've been looking for one for awhile and Anthro has decently priced blazers… I'd love to actually see them on someone. Also – style the winged victory top? I have this top and love it… but… haven't worn it yet. How would you wear this in the cold? Maybe with said blazer that I don't own yet?! help! 🙂

Sandra – yes it totally is! That was another one that deja vu'ed me.annie cat – are you referring to the Leaps & Bounds Belt? I actually bought it over the weekend. And I love it…although yes it reminds me of the Snakebite Belt.Chloe – OK, fair enough. I like both the new tops too. And will probably buy at least one of them making me a hippo. (crite. now put it together!)Steph – absolutely, happy to try some on. Have you seen this post? I tried some of the blazers on there. But I know Anthro has released more so I'll see what's in-store. And added the Winged Victory top to mah list. 🙂

Great post Roxy. I like the Tangents top a lot. I might have to get it. I do believe that the recession has something to do with retailers recycling trends. And I agree with Chloe, I can get more wear of what is already sitting in my closet.

I am kinda happy to see the Tivoli top repeated. I never bought it and love it.. wish I had it. So if anyone upgrades their wardrobe, let me know 🙂

Deja vu indeed. The Ghostly Garden Top by Deletta is similar in style to an older top of theirs. I get Deletta likes those little rosettes, but even the shape is exactly the same.

I feel like Lill is the biggest perpetrator of this "deja vu" trend but I don't really mind because I love their dresses. Also, I don't think most of my friends have caught on that the Bull's Eye dress and the Starry Night dress are the same basic dress with different fabric patterns and different sleeves. The Grand Cru dress looks awfully similar to the black version of the Bold Boutonniere dress that was in stores last summer (they have the same top portion and large black flower in the center, but one has a striped skirt and one has a polka-dotted skirt). I didn't like the fit of the Bold Boutonniere dress so I probably won't bother with the Grand Cru dress.I could also swear that Odille comes out with the same yellow skirt with lace overlay every few years. When I first started shopping at Anthropologie in 2003 (or possibly 2004?), I fell in love with a similar skirt that had the same loop-de-loop pattern in the lace at the bottom, but I couldn't afford it because I was a poor college student. I was pretty happy to see it show up again, all these years later.

Roxy-have you noticed that the 'Borrowed Blazer' in grey is now only $29.95 but in black it's still $69.95? Do you know why Anthro would do that? Is that a typo somehow? Maybe the grey wasn't as popular as the black one?

Hmmm Sharon, I have never seen anything like that before. I'm going to guess it's a typo but I'm not sure.
