Styled: Horizon Line Dress

Anthropologie at ShopStyle

This post is a double-shot for Sharon in CA and Anonymous who asked for stylings of the Horizon Line Dress ($138).

We rolled up our sleeves and had some fun with this option. This outfit is all about the whimsy, inspired by the scalloped skirt on the dress. We went for a cardigan that’s a step above the ordinary. The slight peplum at the bottom of the cardigan echoes the feminine touches of the dress. We also like how the buttons on the cardi taper in to create a sleek silhouette.

We know the socks are kind of out there but the blue hearts match the dress perfectly. We’ve thrown in a tall boot option in case you just want to give a peek of the socks. If you want to rock them though we encourage it! Pair grey or navy flats with this outfit instead and show your groove thing. (Or change out the socks for grey, blue or brown tights to tone the look down.) The jewelry is meant to complete this sweet look.

In this outfit:
Horizon Line Dress ($138)
Marc by Marc Jacobs Nessa Admiral-Front Sweater ($290)
Chelsea Crew Leena Boots ($80)
Lub Dub Socks ($30)
Strata Bounty Necklace ($138)
Frenesi Posts ($38)

For the second look we turned to our classic roots. This dress has a nice structured waist that we don’t want to lose with any overlayers. So we picked a sweater that has a some shape at the waist (and in this case, the hips). When I tried the sweater on it didn’t over-accent my hips and over a dress with a straight skirt like this we actually think it will be very flattering. A dainty flower necklace and earrings keep the understated tone going. To complete the outfit we picked neutral tights and shoes with a subdued but yummy bag.

In this outfit:
Horizon Line Dress ($138)
Double Twist Sweater ($98)
J.Crew Spectator Mary-Jane Peep-Toe (no longer online, similar here, here and here)
Grooved Channels Tights ($18)
Open Flower Necklace ($9)
Napier Silver-Tone Wired Flower Stud Earrings (now $7)
Goldilocks Bag (no longer online, similar here and here)

Here’s one more sweater-over-the-dress look to keep you warm. This time we found a complimentary sweater with a seam just below the bust — this will create such a flattering shape on! We liked the lavender color best but blue, brown, gold or black would also work well. We mixed in a tougher bag with otherwise soft accents like the pretty bow necklace and flower earrings. The wedge boots give you a solid and stable base to work up from. We picked blue tights but you could also do black or grey. You could add a belt to this look (something thick would be best) or substitute a simple cardigan in. There are so many ways to go with this look! The important thing is to pick a top shape that has some kind of tailoring to it so you don’t lose the shape of the dress.

In this outfit:
Horizon Line Dress ($138)
Cole Haan Air Brandi Tall Boot ($398)
Jimmy Choo ‘Bree’ Perforated Leather Hobo ($1695)

How would you change this look for the red version of the dress? I ended up with red because it looks better with my skin tone, but I'm having a hard time styling it for work and going out.

Campbell — I liked the red version a lot better too (I actually have it on under the Web & Loom cardi in this morning's reviews). The Oscillations Cardi in grey looks fan-friggin-tastic over the red version of the dress. The Laced Dots Sweater also looks good, and you can still do the Double Twist Sweater but I would use the black version instead of the ivory. You can also have some fun with tights — cranberry or teal would work, just keep the rest of the outfit neutral.Hope that helps a bit. 🙂

Love these! Can you help me out with the Maples & Oaks Skirt? I'm pretty casual, and totally clueless.

Great looks, I loved the Marc Jacobs sweater. Were there any sale additions today, I didn't really see anything new. 🙁

Just wondering what to do with the sash/bow in the back of this dress (or on any dress that has a sash) when you are laying with a sweater. I find that I get a big lump under the sweater. Any tricks?

Thank you so much Roxy! This helps a lot! I just picked up the dress last weekend and I'm looking forward to getting some of your looks and putting them together! I can't say enough good things about this dress. Thanks again!

Tien – Hmm, can't remember if I took shots of the dress without the sweater on. If I did I'll update the Horizon Line Dress review post. Jennifer – I'll usually double-set the sash (pull it back as it's supposed to sit naturally and then pull it around to the front) and use a barrette or bobby pins to hold it. Or sometimes I'll just tuck in to the zipper. Anyone else have tips for this?
