Email: Sweater shapes you know, outfits you don’t

The subject line of Anthropologie’s latest email struck me as a bit odd. So…they’re pretty much admitting that their sweater shapes are derivative? Maybe I’m taking it too literally. Even if they are shapes I’ve seen before I’m loving this latest set of outfits. Each outfit has a few additional, non-pictured items to browse through.

The two on the homepage are my favorite. The left side features the Anemone Bloom Cardigan ($118, review here) layered with the Plum Orchard Blouse ($128), the AG Brink Tomboy jeans ($178) and the Sweater Cuffed Booties ($168). It looks so easy and warm. On the right side the Falling Ribbon Cardigan ($98) is the top layer over Leifsdottir’s gorgeous Floret Trifle Blouse ($228), AG’s Cirrus Stilt jeans ($168) and Beviel’s Wandering Platforms ($158).

The Floret Trifle Blouse works even though it’s voluminous. So pretty. I have a review of the Falling Ribbon Cardigan here. I love how they styled it here. It also caught my eye in-store…I saw it layered over the orange version of the Soft Drapes Blouse ($88, review here) to great effect. I recreated a variation of that look for my review.

I’m not sure I can rock the Cape Coat Cardigan ($168) properly, but again the styling makes me want to try it. I dig the monochromatic look completed with the AG Stevie Corduroys ($158) — did AG get some serious placement this month or what? — and a second appearance by the Wandering Platforms ($158). Keeping the tones within one color really streamlines the look and the already thin model looks even more slight. For us normal peeps the look is still sure to flatter.

The right-side outfit starts with Sparrow’s Acclimate Sweater ($128), and adds the He-Said-She-Said Skirt ($158), the Oberland Booties ($148) and the Old & New Necklace ($38) rounds out the set. This is as close a Anthro goes to work outfit as I’ve ever seen them do. The volume is a bit more than I usually wear to work but I like the idea of the outfit.

The Drapey Wrap features two sweaters high on my wish list. The left side stars the Cooling Cardigan ($88) as the topper to Porridge’s Country Manor Top ($68), Idra’s Season-To-Season Shorts ($78), Eloise’s Calligrapher’s Tights ($38) and Gee WaWa’s To-And-Fro Booties ($248). I am all for the shorts with tights look. Over on the right the soon-to-be-mine Diffusion Vest ($98) stars in a look also featuring the Paramount Scoopneck ($38), the Shady Leaves Mini ($148), the Boughton Bay Tights ($18), the Bewitching Booties ($198) and the intriguing Tweed Touch Necklace ($168). The necklace is a lighthearted mix of masculine print and feminine jewels. I love it! There are two more outfit sets worth browsing through!

You’ll also note the email touts the arrival of more of Ruffian’s Mise en Scene collection. I’ll have reviews coming up soon for those items.

On an off-topic note, a few people wrote me today asking if I’d noticed Anthropologie’s website being slow. Yes, and I’ve also seen a few javascript errors on product pages. I can only hope this means more sale additions soon?
