This amazing Vera print not only makes the Great Heights Shift ($148) a stunner, it also makes me want a canvas of it for my wall. It’s fun to wear a work of art.
Shift dresses and curves aren’t a match made in heaven but this one came close to working for me. I tried on a size 8 (one size up) and was able to finagle it over my hips. The dress has a side zip closure and one button at the back of the neck. The rest of the back is pretty open. For me, the hips were very tight and the back was far too big. Hopefully the last shot accurately conveys the lovely hunch the extra fabric created.
The waist wasn’t too bad. It sat an inch or so above where I wanted but it didn’t look silly or make me look top-heavy. Pockets are a lovely surprise on this dress too! This dress would require some tailoring to work on me but the workmanship is amazing. If you like the print it’s totally worth it. You’ll have this dress for years.
There’s some debate over Sine’s Blushing Faille Dress ($188) in the website product reviews. The dress is finally making its way to stores and it doesn’t seem to be the same dress featured in the November catalogue. Hard for me to say since I’ve never seen it before but the fabric does seem stiffer in the catalogue shot.
Either way it’s a pretty dress. I sized up to an 8 and that was still squishing my chest but it fit great otherwise. The bodice has significant boning in it which offers good support. Wrinkling aside I adore this dress. With a cardigan over it this one’s ready to party. I will be waiting to see if this makes it to sale.
A couple of months ago I got a request to review Deletta’s Cosgrove Dress ($128). Well I finally saw it in-store today and guess what? It comes in three colors now. I grabbed the black because that’s the NYC uniform.
My true size medium was the right size but the fit of this dress wasn’t working for me. The biggest problem was the neckline — this dress was literally choking me. Could. Not. Breathe. The top is made of cubed puckers. It’s a chic touch but not a kind one to larger chests. I was disappointed because I wanted to like this dress but it wasn’t a good option for me. I have a feeling that lean, dancer-like bodies will suit this dress best.
so glad someone finally did a review of the blushing faille dress. i love love love this dress. it looks lovely on you. i do agree it seems different than the catalogue version, but it's still lovely nontheless!
Wow, the print on that first dress is amazing!
Roxy: thanks for reviewing the Cosgrove dress. It was me that asked a while back. I didn't have an issue with the neck nor the bust (34B), but I found the fit to be a little weird. The small fit me, but I found the waist to be a little high. I tried on the medium and that also fit and was a tiny bit longer. I found it to be too short. I'm 5'7,but with longer legs. (The dress isn't made for women that are busty.) I wanted to love it, but couldn't. I sadly ended up returning.Off topic: I did get the Chie Mihara's in a 9.5 and can make the right one work with a heel insert. YAY!
Thank you Anon!Diana – agreed, the print alone is worth the price of admission.Bronzi – ohhh so glad the 9.5s will work for you! I am trying to hold out until next month (birthday month) but those Chies are calling to me and I got a couple of Anthro gift cards in my hot little hands.
Oh, my twin sister ruined dresses with bows on the bust for me after she so kindly proclaimed (once-up-on-a-time, as I was lusting after something with a big, sweeping bow gracing the top part) that it looked like I was trying to give my boobs away as a present.I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET THAT HORRIBLE IMAGE OUT OF MY HEAD SINCE, so now whenever I see something with a bow on the bust I want to make grabby hands, and then cry a bit, and then make grabby hands, and then cry a bit some more. Ruined for me. Just…ruined. Devastating. :((I still think you look great in it, though! Even if you are giving your boogies as a gift. Hee.)
Chloe, from your sister to my guy. He said the exact same thing. 😉
I had the same problem with the Cosgrove dress. The neckline was too tight. Good to know that it wasn't just me. I thought that maybe I had a fat neck.
Love the dress choices for today, Roxy- thanks so much for these! Is there any altering that you think might make the Great Heights shift work a bit better on you? Like you said, the print is so fantastic…
Diem – the idea of a fat neck has my eyes bugging. I'm sure you have no such thing.Suzanne – for me personally I would probably buy the dress in the 8 to accommodate my hips and then get the back taken in so that it it doesn't have all that extra fabric there. I might ask the tailor to add a couple of extra buttons or discreet snaps in the back as well so that it's not so open.
LOVE the great heights dress.
Ahh, the Great Heights shifts looks so gorgeous on you! And I surprisingly love the Blushing Faille as well, even though I didn't think I was going to — but ROFL at Chloe's comment!
Funny-I bought the Cosgrove dress and I am well endowed and did not have the neck problem. It's higher up than i would usually wear but since it's so flattering on the waist I thought i'd give it a shot. The fabric is so comfy–I love this dress!
That cosgrove dress was made for you I think! wow it looked good..and the blushing faile! so pretty irl! thankyou!

I found the City print dress to have a straight skirt but the photo shows it as more A-line. No? Would the online version and store version differ in the type of skirt? Or am I just wishfully thinking.
I definitely thought it has a straight skirt. I think it's partially the way the model is standing too. I wish it were an a-line!
