Grab your coffee and get ready to dig in. In this post I’ve got two promos to shop today and 15 outfit ideas! These two stores mix so well together I decided it best to combine them into one mega-post! Today only, you can take up to 25% your American Eagle order (Aerie is 25-60% off too!). Use code UPTO25. Also, you can take 40% off your Old Navy order! Use code STYLE.
I’ve had some major hauls at both of these stores in the last few months. The quality has been great — sometimes better than my luxury splurges! And, as you’ll see further down the post, the two combine well together into outfits. Both Old Navy and American Eagle specialize in casual basics and have cohesive color stories that allow me to style preppy chic outfits effortlessly. To help beef up Alex’s and my wedding fund I’ve been taking on personal shopping clients again (email me for rates!). I’ve sent a whole bunch of clients to Old Navy and AE, and while most start off dubious they always turn out quite pleased with their hauls and how far their dollar goes at each store.
The other question I get a lot is, “I’m 40+ years old! Can I still shop at these stores?” The answer is yes, absolutely. At American Eagle there are some things I’ll have you look beyond (the super-cropped tops and mini skirts that don’t even fit over my bottom, for instance) to closet staples like jeans, soft and comfy tee shirts, and cute shoes and accessories.
For example, take the Scallop Trim Babydoll Tank Top (now $20) topping this post. It comes in four colors. My favorite is this subdued aqua hue. On its own it’s a nice weekend top. For my casual office environment I’d layer another tank below it, wear it with dark denim, plop a blazer and a necklace on over it and voila! Instant work look. I love pieces that can pull double-duty like this!
A couple of other AE/Aerie tops I really love include the Soft & Sexy Lace Inset Jegging Top ($25) and the Aerie Real Soft® Ribbed Henley Tank (now $15), both of which I own in multiple colors. The latter looks great layered over Aerie’s lacy bralettes in a contrasting color.
Below, my latest picks for this fantastic promotion. All prices for AE are before the promotional discount is applied. All prices for Aerie include promo discounts. Want even more American Eagle styling ideas? Check out the AE tag, where I’ve got OOTDs, outfit ideas and styling tips galore!
Meanwhile, over at Old Navy there’s a super deal going on! This is the second of the I’ve got two promos to shop today and 15 outfit ideas. Today only you can take 40% off your Old Navy purchase, online only. What’s great right now at Old Navy? Oh, pretty much everything. I’m so delighted by their patterns and colors and basics and trend pieces this Spring.
I find that with Old Navy’s dresses I nearly always want the tall version so the skirt hits closer to my knees. Recently, I had a massive order arrive with plenty of delights! I took to my full length mirror to see which dresses I’d keep and which ones I’d return. I’ve decided to share all the looks I quickly concocted to show how easy and, of course, effortless it is to put together preppy chic outfits with Old Navy.
To be clear, not all of the items in these looks are from Old Navy. I’ve linked up as much as I can (some are old items no longer available for purchase) or alternatives where needed. Everything I’m wearing from Old Navy is 40% off today!
Whether work, weekend or date night, Old Navy truly has me covered right now. The stars of the photos below? Without a doubt, the Sueded Knit Moto Jacket ($60 before discount) and the Fit & Flare Tiered Cami Dress ($15). In all of the pants outfits, I’ve mixed AE items and Old Navy items.
Below, all 15 looks, with special guest appearances by Cinnamon and Bump the cat. See if you can guess which items I kept and which went back…
It took me longer to put together all the shopping widgets than it did to put together these outfits. That’s pretty amazing, isn’t it?

Below, all my picks from today’s Old Navy promo. Happy promo shopping everyone! Later today, picks from the last day of Madewell’s extra 30% off and an outfit idea x 2.
I am very long waisted and thus have been afraid to purchase a Moto jacket due to this fact. I love the Old Navy Sueded Knit Moto Jacket. Do you know length? And would I get a longer length with a tall size?
I just measured my size medium and it's 22.5" long. That's about 1.5" longer than most of the other motos in my closet. As far as the talls being longer, I'd bet it's another inch or so longer. My tall dresses are quite a bit longer than the regular versions!!
Thanks Roxy — I see a Moto in my closet 🙂 Love your blog — Have a wonderful day!!
Awesome Karen D! Let me know how it works when it arrives! And thank you. =)
