Off Topic: Late summer lovers, Free People is here for you

This outfit: the Tatiana Sexy Back Mini ($78) in deep plum and the Oleria Tie Necklace ($138).
Date night perfection with a cardigan over it, I’m thinking.

I’m not ready to say goodbye to summer quite yet. (It is about 95 degrees in NYC right now after all.) While many retailers are urging us to think of changing leaves and cooler breezes, some places are still ready to cater to us summer lovers. Tops on my list? Free People of course. I go to them for everything the opposite of Anthropologie. When I want super flowy, roomy, inexplicably at times boho stuff, Free People is there to tempt me.

What’s on my late-summer wishlist? Step inside and find out…

A mini dress with pockets? Sign me up. This frock is great for picnics in the park and when I want to define my waist I can throw on a cropped cardigan or lightweight jacket that nips in, or perhaps an openwork cardigan is the answer. On cooler evenings, a long-sleeve top over this with the bottom of the skirt peeking out would be super cute!

The We The Free Stripe Me Down Tee ($68) in nautical combo and Mahina Lariat ($248).

No you don’t have to go pantless like the model — that’s a little brave! But you can pair these with shorts that just stick out from the bottom of the top, creating a tantalizing silhouette that’s cool to boot.

In 90+ degree temperatures and humidity in overdrive, I want to be dressed but with as little touching my skin as possible. This dress is perfect for us tall girls who don’t mind shorter pieces in the summer. (It’s not quite as short on me as on the model, but it’s close.) This dress is open on the sides so I wear a strappy bra underneath that’s meant to be shown off.

The Scallop Edge Cami ($58).

This came is easy. I can wear it with a pencil skirt and a cardigan over it to work. I can wear it with shorts on the weekend or black pants for a sleek evening out. This is another top that I’d wear with one of those strappy back bras.

This is the kind of top I love to wear riding my bike — I love it when breezes catch all the extra material and make my life extra flowy for a moment or two. And there’s something very nice the airy lightness of an extra roomy tee in summer.

What are you loving from Free People right now? What are your late-summer go-to pieces?
