I have to give credit where it’s due — each summer, J.Crew somehow knocks out one or two dresses that are updated classics. This year I’ve invested in two fun frocks that are incredibly figure-flattering, sexy and yet versatile. I thought I’d scored quite the deal on each of them but now they are at killer deal levels and I just have to share!
First up: the Chevron Pleated Dress (now $90 with an extra 40% off using the code shopnow at checkout) shown above. This dress comes in four colors, looks amazing and frames curves perfectly, shows off more than a hint of cleavage but doesn’t go overboard, and comes in both tall and petite sizes. If you’re over 5’6″ and want this dress to hit near your knee invest in the tall size. I bought this dress in the light mauve color shown on the model above. I’m 5’8″, 155 lbs, and the size 4 Tall hits me right above the knee. The 4 is one size down from my usual 6 in dresses at other stores, but I’m nearly always a 4 at J.Crew (vanity sizing much?!?). It fits like a dream and is perfect for everything from summer date nights to concerts in the park. I love the shape, I love the color, I love pretty much everything about this delightful dress! The other frock is another winner with me in part due to its color, and it’s work appropriate!
Above is the Perforated A-Line Dress (now $70-$100 with an extra 40% off using the code shopnow at checkout). Don’t be fooled by how loose and not ultra-flattering it looks on the model — especially if you’re an hourglass like me. This dress pulls off the nearly impossible feat of pulling off shift-like structure on curvy frames. Some of the reviews on J.Crew’s website complain that the skirt floofs out too much, and I have to think that on straighter shapes it does, but on my hourglass shape it is simply perfect. It hugs me in all the right spots (bust, top of the hips) and releases everywhere it should simultaneously. Not an easy thing to pull off, but J.Crew nailed it with this dress.
This dress also runs short so as with the Pleated Chevron Dress topping the post, if you’re over 5’6″ you’ll want to go for the tall version. On my 5’8″, 155 lb-frame the size 4 tall was perfect and hits about an inch or so above the knee. Again, the 4 is one size down from my usual 6 in dresses at other stores, but I’m nearly always a 4 at J.Crew. I purchased the dress in the ‘vintage sky’ aqua color shown above and it also comes in more classic colors like black, teal, and a medium pink.
