Runway to Everyday: Karen Walker A/W 2013

A chic and accessible runway look from Karen Walker’s A/W 2013
ready-to-wear presentation at New York Fashion Week.

It’s always possible that a Fashion Week presentation will be over the top. Mostly though it’s a chance for designers to present their wares to buyers and get their product in stores. I never fail to be inspired by outfits on the runway! Sometimes they need a little adjustment to work off the runway, sometimes not. Runway to everyday is about translating runway looks to an everyday outfit.
Today, a look from Karen Walker’s Fall 2013 RTW (ready-to-wear) presentation.

EVERYDAY LOOK

Although the outfit was intended for fall it’s very easy to picture it as a spring look too, especially when swapping out the beige structured overtop from the runway look for a peachy-blush in the everyday version. To keep the feeling of the runway look intact I’ve chosen an above-the-knee skirt (also available in petite) and a similarly structured scuba top with sleeves to the elbow — that sleeve length will define the waist even with a boxier top. The white tee underneath is optional though I like the bit of modern professionalism the peek of white lends around the neckline.

The socks are another optional piece; they make the runway look more preppy and sportif but they are not needed to complete the look. Keeping the color palette simple with black, white and blush ivory makes these pieces versatile choices that could work in a variety of outfits.

If you want to accessorize this look further, a bold sparkly statement necklace will be just the hint of ‘trendy right now’ you want. J.Crew is one of my favorite stores to check for costume jewelry. I think any of these three necklaces — one, two, three — would work wonderfully with this outfit. As for recreating the model’s hair from the runway look…you’re on your own for that one.

The only problem with putting these outfits together is now I want the everyday look. Wishlist — expanded!!!

This is another series I’m trying out this week! (Lunch Break will be back, I’m rotating series to keep things fresh.) I’d love to know your thoughts! You can see older Runway to Everyday looks over on my tumblr to get an idea of what this series will bring.
