Guest Post: 4 skirts done 12 ways by Michiko Daydreams

Please join me in welcoming Michiko Daydreams for today’s guest post! She and a friend came up with some brilliant outfits based on recent Anthropologie skirts. I’m loving every look. When it comes to buying Anthropologie items, there is no end to the amount of skirts, tops, accessories (you name it!) that I feel I *must* have in my closet right then and there. Alas, when it comes to styling my newly purchased Anthropologie items, I often find myself at a complete loss.

In order to get over this “styling-block”, my friend and I hatched a plan to take 4 Anthropologie skirts that we adore but have a hard time being creative with and spinning three separate looks out of each. Some looks turned out better suited for work and some for brunch with friends but either way, we agreed we got over the styling hurdle. I hope these offer some inspiration for other fellow Anthropologie lovers itching to expand their outfit possibilities!

The first look is centered around the Coming and Going skirt (now $100). We both found this skirt hard to incorporate into a “serious” outfit because of its higher hemline and frilly nature yelling “take me to the party!” …So our mission was to simultaneously play up the fun factor while also attempting to show that this skirt can be taken seriously for daytime/work use.

On the left is our attempt to balance demure and bold while also playing with the color combo of navy & black. Our center look was our statement piece, embracing polka dot-on-polka dot (*heart* *heart*!) and our look on the right was a nod to romanticism with the frilly top but modest addition of tights coupled with edgy strappy heels.

The second look is centered around the Woodblock Print skirt. With its slight bubble silhouette and front pleats, I often find this skirt hard to play down and make more casual. On the left is our professional look but paired with strappy shoes and a thick belt accenting the waist. Center is our playful look, mixing not only patterns but colors. On the right is our prim & proper look with different intensities of the same tangerine-pink hue.

The third look is centered around the Fennel Flower skirt. I absolutely adore this skirt but find it remarkably hard to style despite its obvious work potential. On the left I paired it with a ruffle top and cinched cardigan as a possibility for work. Center, I took a simple white top but paired the outfit with animal print heels, something I wouldn’t normally consider doing. On the right, I played up the yellow theme and amped up the look with some higher t-strap heels. 3 new looks for work!

The fourth and final look is centered around the Laurenti Circle skirt. I immediately took to this skirt not only because of its full (playful) silhouette but also because of the neon green stitching visible along the waist and hem…I am a lover of small details like this! Anytime I wear this, I feel like I am better suited for a Mad Men episode so I decided to just embrace the retro full skirt and play it up. On the left, I let myself play up the retro feel of the skirt. Center, I still gave a nod to the retro feel but played around with the idea of a cinched cardigan-as-shirt…A fun outfit for going out with friends? On the right, I played down the skirt with ballet flats and a black turtleneck as an easy go-to outfit.
