Guest post: Reviews by Emily

Hi everyone! Thanks to Roxy for letting me do a guest post. I live an equidistant 1.5-2 hours from the Anthros in Houston and Austin, so I rely heavily on the reviews and photos from other ladies to get an idea on what would work for me. I had to return something to Anthro (which I will do a quick review of below, the Circle the Globe skirt ($68)), and opted to do an in-store visit too!

Enough blabbering, lets get started!

First up is my newest love, the June, July, August dress ($148) in the ‘purple’ colorway. I love everything about this dress. I tried my true XS, and it fit so well. I would need a cami for work so I don’t scare the locals, but on the weekend it’s just a pull on and go. It will also transition really well for me to winter with tights, boots and a sweater. The jersey was very good quality and it has POCKETS people. At $148 it’s too much for me full-price, but it goes to the tippy-top of my list for sale, or more likely next month’s birthday discount since I am impatient. In. Love.

I also took the Tiny Windows dress ($118) in coral size 2 with me in the fitting room, just to test it out. I have to say…I wasn’t really impressed with it on myself. The fabric was really nice, and a beautiful color, but I felt kind of meh. I also already look young for my 28 years (I got carded for buying crazy-glue at Walmart, apparently you have to be at least 18 in Texas) so this dress didn’t do me any favors. Back to the rack.

The Vagabond Dress, size 2 was so cute and very flattering…which is all well and good if you never want to take it off. However, this dress was such a pain in the you know what for me to take off! While I was trying to Houdini my way out of this thing, I also noticed that one of the seams already had a hole, so clearly I’m not the only one who had problems. For a dress at this price, I expected more. The fabric/color/style are really nice, but I couldn’t look past its flaws.

The Ambrosial Cardigan ($98) is high on my wishlist. In person, it is just as gorgeous and flatters really well. Nice quality, vibrant colors and a classic design. True to size for me on this one (XS). It will be coming home with me soon. The Vappu Dress would be a fantastic work dress with a cardi, but is a little more limiting for me as I felt it emphasized my middle without the cardi over it. I was going to wishlist the dress, but I wasn’t blown away and love other, more versatile pieces.

The Wild and Wondrous Cardigan ($118) is obviously a little newer to the scene, but I love it just as much as the Ambrosial cardi. The hemline might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I really liked it on myself. It has a single hidden hook closure in the middle, which I loved as well. The print, design…everything about this was well done. Sparrow really hit it out of the park. Wishlisted.

Another dress that I loved was the Oratory Dress ($98) in tangerine. Great quality, fun color, and a nice price point from Anthro. True to size for me in XS; the gathering on the sides provided a great fit even though you pull it on. Another great dress for me to wear all year. Competing with other items for wishlist supremacy/birthday discount. Doesn’t hurt that it coordinates with the Ambrosial Cardigan ($98) which will one day be mine…

The reason I went up to Anthro this weekend was to return a Circle the Globe skirt ($68) I ordered (the photo is a 4). I LOVE the color of this and I am so crushed that it didn’t make me look or feel awesome (which we all want, right ladies?). With the poof, it really was better at my true waist, but I have a petite & small top, and average leg length/hips (6-8 in pants compared to XS/P tops). So this skirt made me look kind of freakish, emphasizing both features rather than balancing me out. Definitely try a few sizes and see what works! Not for me, but I will be happy with my June, July, August dress ($148) instead.
