Not cool Anthro, not cool

This morning my Anthropologie order from yesterday shipped…very impressive! I was really bummed though to see that my white Stratus Cloud Top (now $40, review here) was cancelled. Boo. If an item is sold out it’s sold out though, right? So you can imagine my frustration this morning when I went to Anthropologie’s website only to see…

…that oh look! The top was still in stock in white as of 7:30 AM this morning, and uh which size is that? Oh, medium. Hmm, I wonder who recently ordered a medium in white only to have it cancelled. Oh, that was me!!

In all seriousness it’s annoying but not really a big deal. I know many of you have dealt with the same frustration. Just wanted to let you know you’re not alone. I can’t wait for Anthro’s new inventory system to kick in.

Update: Thanks to Judy, the top is on its way to me from Chicago’s Block 37! They did charge me shipping though, boo. Thanks to everyone who emailed me! Again!

My sister had that same problem recently. She ordered the Country Manor top three times in Medium, only to have it cancelled and then have it show up again online. She finally got it on the third try. There must be some sort of glitch in the inventory system – super annoying!

I've had orders cancelled at least twice now by Anthropologie…it certainly is dissapointing. But i'm excited to be finally receiving both the black and grey snakebite belts today! On another note, my one sale purchase from yesterday I am second guessing even before I receive it…the Reed Shirtdress in Green…but only because I've seen the Beda Dress is apparently about to be offered in that same Kelly Green! I adored that color initially and couldn't decide between it and the blue plaid in the Reed dress…but I eventually settled on the blue, telling myself if the dress ever went on sale i'd get the green too. but I'm thinking now I'd rather have an entirely different dress in that color…of course it's not on sale so there is that….

D: That is so not right. Hopefully Anthro is aware of the inventory problem so they can correct it. I get so frustrated when my items get cancelled, I can't even imagine how pissed I would be if that cancelled item popped back up onto the website!

I saw the spotlight tank in medium this morning, I tried to order it and it said it was out of stock and wouldn't let me place my order, oh well saved myself $30 plus shipping.

Beda Dress in green!?!?! Where did you hear that Sharon? That would be just lovely!

  6. April 7, 2010 / 4:45 pm

What a strange and annoying glitch. I've never had that occur to me before, but have had the complete wrong orders sent my way more than once. What got me was that CS was nice but very matter-of-fact about the whole deal – bc this apparently occurs all the time?

  7. April 7, 2010 / 4:46 pm

If you do a search on the website under "Maeve" the designer name, it pops up as a color option for this dress. However once you click on the dress itself, it's still only in white…so I imagine it's coming soon? Try it…Another website glitch, I suppose…lol!

sharon thanks for the tip! looking forward to seeing it in green!

  9. April 7, 2010 / 5:11 pm

You're welcome-it was purely an accidental find. I hope it actually does come out in the green, the white is beautiful but I feel like the green would be more versatile for me…

  10. April 7, 2010 / 5:15 pm

Super disappointing! Sorry that happened, Roxy, but if you're still looking, I was at the Newport Beach, CA Anthro yesterday afternoon and they had a few of the Stratus Cloud tops in Ivory in a size medium. They also had plenty in a medium in the grey.HTH!

the beda dress in GREEN?!?! oh. i am soooo there.

  12. April 7, 2010 / 5:16 pm

I am looking for a Rare bloom Tee in small and it sold out on the website:(

Yes, cancellations are not fun to see in your email. I complained to them a few months back and they offered me free shipping for my next purchase.I noticed in the March catalog with the Beda dress that it said "More Colors Available". Had been wondering about it since they only had white online, so maybe soon.

Last time Anthropologie canceled my order, I didn't even get an email. 🙁

I have had items canceled as well with no email notification. Also, I'd love to know where my gray snakbite belt is. I placed my order last fall! I've waited so long, I can't decide if the wait is really worth the aggrevation or not.-CoteKing

  16. April 7, 2010 / 6:24 pm

So sorry! This has happened to me more times in the last 6 weeks or so than in the eight + years I've been shopping here! Ugh! And I hate not getting an email because you lose precious "hunting" time on sale items. So I gather you still weren't able to get the top? Boo.

  17. April 7, 2010 / 6:30 pm

Sorry Roxy! It's happened to us all, and it really sucks if its an item that you've had your heart set on.Are they fixing their inventory system? Because that would be great! The most drama I've had was with the Hedy Platforms. I ordered a pair, and my order got canceled. They popped back in my size, and I ordered again, but this time it was back-ordered. Fine. But about a month later (they were back-ordered for a while) they sold out in my size, I started getting nervous, called customer service and spoke with someone who assured me that if I purchases a pair and if my order status was "back-ordered" they would arrive eventually. Another couple weeks and I noticed on my order page that it had been cancelled (never got an e-mail!). It all worked out in the end (I got my precious Hedy Platforms from a different vendor), but the whole episode was frustrating. Wouldn't it be great if Anthro had some kind of wait-list policy; i.e. if an item is being restocked, customers whose orders had been canceled are notified and given a first chance at placing another order. And would it be so hard for Anthro to know exactly how many of an item is being restocked and only sell that many. I made my purchase a month before the website said the shoes were sold out and it was still cancelled. Back-ordered should mean "you'll get your purchase when it comes in" and not "your purchase is in Anthro limbo."Sorry, didn't mean to vent that much!

Hi! I had a problem too! They charged me wrong for the sequined skirt that was 29.95 and the charged me double to insure idk what about my card. So lets just say my bank account is all screwed right now. 🙁 They are very nice but when I told them about my problem cs couldn't do anything since it was a charge and send and the lady I spoke to on the phone from the store just said sorry, I at least expected for them to tell me I'll speak to the bank so they can drop off the extra charge or to say sorry I'll send a 15percent coupon. Since now I can't use my card at all till all that is fixed! What should I do?

  20. April 7, 2010 / 7:24 pm

not cool @ all roxy! better luck next time i hope. hmm new inventory system?? do tell

OMG! I can't believe! I just read your post and went to see if the "Ode to Spring Tank" appeared again. Sure enough that was it! When I added it to my shopping cart, I received that warning that I chose more items than it was available. This same item that was avaible today was cancelled yesterday. I ordered it around noon and received the cancellation notification later in the afternoon. And today… there it was again! But I didn't grab it fast enough… although… since I ordered it yesterday, it was my time to get it, right? I soooo frustrated!

  22. April 7, 2010 / 8:02 pm

Sharon, my Snakebite belts are out for delivery to me today, too! I was beginning to lose hope, since I ordered in November. And that Beda dress in green will be mine. I will be stalking the website every day until it shows up.

  23. April 7, 2010 / 8:09 pm

AL – Anthro limbo, ha! I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the Hedy Platforms. 🙁 I'm glad you were able to get them in the end somewhere else!Katie – a couple of community members have emailed me, so I will have one on the way to me soon! You ladies are beyond fantastic.nancyl – unfortunately there is nothing Anthro can do. From your description it sounds like there is a "hold" on your card which means that your bank has set aside the money for the charge but not completed it. This happened to me once too (not through Anthro) and I had to wait until the issuing bank for my debit card removed the hold. Usually takes about 48 hours.

  24. April 7, 2010 / 8:11 pm

I've been there too and it makes me so frustrated. I had to order my Anna Sui Apparition Dress three times before it stuck. I got it in the end though, one of my favourite pieces I own!

  25. April 7, 2010 / 8:12 pm

TGA – Urban Outfitters contracted with a new fulfillment company and as part of it they're overhauling their inventory system. It's supposed to roll out for Anthropologie in Q3 based on the initial press release. The press release is from last fall though so that may have changed.

Same thing happened to me, I've been trying to order the Romantic Jumble Earrings since 3/15 the order has been cancelled three times even though it was showing as available on my wishlist, I finally tried again yesterday and was successful.

Roxy, they were a whole bunch of those tops, in both colors, all sizes in the Boulder Anthro…

Beda dress in GREEN?!? DONE. I just returned the white one because I couldn't justify owning 2 all white dresses…even though doing so made me cry a little inside because the darn thing fits like it was MADE for me…but GREEN?!? I'm so thrilled I could squeal! Well, I might have already done so. Now I just hope it comes out before the end of April so I can use my birthday discount 🙂 🙂

Ugh, how frustrating. I feel your pain I went through the same thing for the queen sized Chatelaine duvet cover a few weeks ago. I ordered it one morning, order was canceled later that afternoon. That's fine. But then it was showing as available again the next morning, so I ordered it again thinking maybe they found more in the warehouse or something. Again it was canceled later that afternoon. But then, it showed as being available again the next morning! It soon became a little game I played with them where I continued ordering it only to have my order canceled later on, this went on about 5 days in a row. I guess I'm an eternal optimist, and I thought it would be fulfilled eventually. I didn't know their inventory system was so wonky, but now I do. : (

  32. April 8, 2010 / 12:19 am

Roxy – I'm glad that you will at least be able to track down the top! I've been fortunate so far and haven't had any orders cancelled, but I'm sure that won't last :/ *knocks on wood*Nancyl, and Roxy – I had the same thing happen to me a couple of weeks ago, and it really REALLY frustrated me because I was ALMOST overdrawn. The thing is – while I was working at Anthropologie, and ringing up a charge send, I made the same mistake that associate made with me and the associate made with you. It only occurred to me after she verified that she hadn't charged me twice, and based upon her description – she wasn't properly trained in the verification process. When you ring up a charge send, it will sometimes ask for an address verification. To do so, you have to call the credit card company, it is an automated phone call, and verify the address and get your verification code. However, if you don't stop the process after the address, it will ask you to enter the amount of the charge as well so that *it* can be verified – and it is when this step is performed that your account is charged twice. This second amount is the hold, and once the charge is actually posted (typically 2-3 business days), the hold will clear. Unfortunately, the store cannot do anything about it. Last time, I was dangerously close to 0 in my account, so from now on I have to be super careful. The verification process for the associates isn't terribly intuitive, so if you are rung up by someone who doesn't necessarily do charge sends often – this can occur. Just be prepared!

  33. April 8, 2010 / 12:30 am

Lauren – As always, thanks for the (former) employee take! Great insight. Just for the heck of it, I just checked my bank account and I have a double hold for the Tic Tac Toe Blouse charge send I did earlier this week. I don't mind but I can see how that could be trouble if your balance is low.

  34. April 8, 2010 / 12:40 am

Yes, *former* employee! I'm on a huge high today because I had a job interview today – and after having graduated from school 10 months ago, and searching for a job ever since – they practically hired me on the spot. So I'm super duper excited about that to the point that I'm sharing it with a bunch of Anthro-loving strangers on the internet :P.BUT! A DOUBLE hold?? As in your account was charged 3 times? What I neglected to mention was when I made the error, the registers were acting up, and so I had to ring it up twice so she was charged 4 times! I felt sososo terrible, stayed overtime to try and fix it (I couldn't, and neither could corporate, who I contacted personally), I sent her her dress anyways even though we didn't have any record on our side of the charge, and I wrote her a super long apology letter. That would explain 4 charges, but 3 is odd. I'm just glad you weren't/aren't low on your account!

  35. April 8, 2010 / 12:50 am

Oh no sorry double-hold as in I was charged twice.

  36. April 8, 2010 / 12:51 am

And SUPER CONGRATS on the job!!! 🙂 I can't wait until the economy turns around — kudos on landing something is this highly competitive market.

  37. April 8, 2010 / 12:53 am

Speak of the devil! I had a Reed Shirtdress I ordered cancelled literally an hour ago, and now it seems to be sold out in stores. So sad. :(To be fair, I haven't had an item cancelled since 2007, so I guess I can't complain too much.

  38. April 8, 2010 / 12:54 am

Oh ok, the double charge makes more sense! And thank you SOOO much! The irony, of course, is that it is a completely casual environment where I will not get to wear most of my pretty Anthro dresses LOL.But I was getting slightly antsy because I did not want to compete with a whole class of new grads starting next month :x. And because I know Kim is probably reading this, I'm totally sending good vibes her way!

  39. April 8, 2010 / 12:55 am

Tissa – after all of these comments, I was super worried my Reed shirtdress would get cancelled. Which color/size had you ordered?

  40. April 8, 2010 / 1:13 am

Lauren: I ordered the blue checked pattern in a size 0. I'm actually pretty surprised that it got cancelled since I was awake late at night when the sale started and ordered before the dress was even showing up in the sale section; most sizes were in stock for that colour at that point. I even used that cart trick for checking how many were in stock at the time I placed the order, haha.I hope there are fewer cancellations with the new inventory system! I also wish they'd implement a "find in store" feature so customer service doesn't have to hear from us so often… 😛

  41. April 8, 2010 / 1:17 am

Tissa, that's really unfortunate and so odd since you ordered yours so early! When I went to 2 stores yesterday, I only saw a few reed shirtdresses at 1 store and only in the blue plaid – but no 0's. I hope that you're able to track one down!!And yes, I'd LOVE a "find a store" feature :p

  42. April 8, 2010 / 1:50 am

YAY!!! I'm glad you got it! I'm sorry they didn't waive shipping. That manager was really weird today. I returned something else and tried to hold it for another community member and they wouldn't let me…I told her it wasn't for me (in case that was the issue) and she didn't care.

  43. April 8, 2010 / 1:51 am

Btw I feel so special to be mentioned in your update =) I showed my friend all smiley and he thought I was a huge dork.

  44. April 8, 2010 / 2:44 am

Judy – Hee! You deserve the shoutout for sure. SAs technically aren't supposed to put sale items on hold, so I'm thankful the manager let you put the top on hold for me. Yay Chicago!

tissa, i was in the perimeter anthro (atlanta) late this afternoon, and there was ONE blue plaid reed shirtdress, size 0! i hope it's still there for you. if you do call them, have them really look for it on the dress rack, b/c they were squeezed in there super-tight.the saddest cancellation is when you use a gift card. you get that sad email, but then you get an email that your order's shipped! doh – it's your replacement gift card. 🙁

  46. April 8, 2010 / 4:28 am

Tissa, I was in the Salt Lake City, Ut store this afternoon and saw one blue plaid reed shirtdress in a size 0. Good luck finding it!

  47. April 8, 2010 / 7:21 pm

Tissa, I was in the towson, MD anthro last night at close and they had one blue plaid reed shirtdress in a size zero.
