Kiboshed — again!! Contest ends.

You sly foxes! I figured you’d all be scouring the internet looking for the Scavenger Hunt answers but many of you have taken to calling stores, Customer Service and even Anthro’s corporate headquarters for the answers. Very clever. According to Anthropologie they’ve had numerous calls from readers.

Unfortunately it’s also bad news — Anthropologie has asked me to kill the contest because it’s putting stress on their operations. So I will. The contest will close at 11:59 PM tonight. I will still draw a winner for Monday. Sad to have to end this one early but it is what it is. It’s not fair to disrupt Anthropologie’s business — that is the opposite of what I want — but that is what is happening.

Please DO NOT CALL CUSTOMER SERVICE looking for answers. Please DO NOT CALL STORES looking for answers. Leave Anthropologie alone as they are not involved in this contest at all. Anyone who ignores this will be disqualified from the contest.

Oh no. 🙁 I was having so much fun looking for the answers. Do we still get till tonight to link the contest? Darn. I should have linked the contest sooner. One of the questions gave me a hard time, and I scoured the internet for two hours. Finally, I just guessed.I hope this doesn't reflect poorly on your blog. This contest was a lot of fun and I learned tons about Anthro while looking for answers.

  2. March 25, 2010 / 9:07 pm

Good point Tien — yes please refrain from tweeting or blogging at this point. I appreciate all the participation so far and I regret that this one has to end early.

  3. March 25, 2010 / 9:14 pm

Bummer. Like Tien, I was having so much fun!Should we still submit answers for today's questions? Thanks!

  4. March 25, 2010 / 9:16 pm

Roxy — I'm disappointed that the contest is ending early but I believe you made the right decision!

    wow what a bummer 🙁

  6. March 25, 2010 / 9:20 pm

Oh my goodness- I would have never thought people were calling stores and headquarters!! Clever and bold indeed! So sorry the contest had to end, it was a really awesome idea Roxy!

  7. March 25, 2010 / 9:21 pm

That stinks that people are calling in for answers!

  8. March 25, 2010 / 9:25 pm

Aw, oh no! That sucks. Like Tien, I too was putting Google to work for one of the answers (I suspect the same one…) and was thinking, "Oh heck I may have to put a link in a blog post in the end to cover this!" Haha, well I just went ahead and guessed now and I'll hope I'm right… 🙂 It was a lot of fun though! Sorry you had to end things early :/

  9. March 25, 2010 / 9:29 pm

kristin – yes please do still submit answers for today's questions. :)(Just please don't call Anthro looking for answers — they might tear down their we ♥ roxy poster!)

  10. March 25, 2010 / 9:33 pm

Very sorry the contest ended this way. I hope that you are not discouraged. It was fun to dig for answers – you did a great job of coming up with some tough questions. Thanks for the fun. I appreciate you blog and your knowledge of Anthro.

  11. March 25, 2010 / 9:39 pm

I'm so glad I saw this before I called anyone! I was debating, but I knew it would be a bother – I was going to tell them I was doing a report for school, actually. Yikes.

What poor sports! That's cheating. I'm sorry it has to end early, I was having a lot of fun!Shame on you who called stores and HQ!

  13. March 25, 2010 / 9:41 pm

Can't believe people were calling up – that's cheating!Buggeration: I posted a link to the contest this evening, shall I take it down?Sorry about how this ended.

  14. March 25, 2010 / 9:41 pm

Wow, that sucks, sorry Roxy! I'm kind of amazed that people would do that though. I found almost all the answers (except for one which i guessed on) by using trusty old google. 🙂

  15. March 25, 2010 / 9:43 pm

Boo! I can't believe people are calling Anthropologie looking for answers…ummm it's called google, people. Thanks for doing this Roxy, I had fun googling and looking through all sites/posts for answers! It made my work mornings go by awfully fast (oops!) :o)Can't wait to see the correct answers!

  16. March 25, 2010 / 9:43 pm

I'm glad you ladies were having fun! I was too. I am a bit discouraged I must admit, but it's not cool to put unwanted stress on Anthropologie over this. I don't think it's cheating that these people called. It was not my intent certainly and outside the spirit of a hunt but who better to get the answers from than the source? Nothing in the rules said you couldn't call. The move was sly to me.

  17. March 25, 2010 / 10:04 pm

Oh man. It honestly never occured to me to call Anthro. Google was pretty helpful overall. I'm in the same boat as Tien, though–there was one question I just couldn't find the answer to so I guessed. That one would have been a good one to call about, lol, but the thought just never crossed my mind.Love the contest, though, and I'm sorry if it caused you any stress!I'm sure your "Roxy Rocks My World" poster at HQ is still dart- and mustache-free 🙂

  18. March 25, 2010 / 10:09 pm

so the winner will be drawn from just monday's submissions?i've been combing the web for the past 3 hours looking for just one answer! >_< lol. today's questions are a bit tougher. it has been fun learning more about anthropologie, tho! 😀 so not all is lost!thanks roxy!

  19. March 25, 2010 / 10:12 pm

Oh, that's unfortunate. I sent my answers anyway. I had some big trouble with one of them, but I didn't contact Anthro looking for an answer to it, I promise :-). Anyway I hope that all is well and Anthro isn't angry or anything. Thanks for doing this contest, it's been a lot of fun.

  20. March 25, 2010 / 10:13 pm

I guess I should be thankful that the contest ends today – the questions were getting tough! It never did cross my mind to call Anthro but I had to take full advantage of my Google-fu skills.

  21. March 25, 2010 / 10:13 pm

Oh dear! I was pretty close to considering calling for an answer to one question that had me totally stumped (it was the #1 suggestion from all my friends when I asked for advice on where to find the info) but I also guessed in the end, much like the other commenters. Hopefully this won't adversely impact your relationship with Anthro at large, Roxy! 😉

  22. March 25, 2010 / 10:17 pm

I do believe many of us have been thwarted by the same question! You're one tricky lady, Roxy!P.S.I'm know that Anthro HQ still loves you!

  23. March 25, 2010 / 10:26 pm

Seriously! That is crazy. It really boggles my mind that people are contacting the stores and HQ for something that is not affiliated with their company. It never would have crossed my mind to do that, and I'm just surprised. And for those people that called, I can at least take comfort in knowing that they probably didn't get help from anybody. A)SA's wouldn't know the answers to the difficult questions. B) Anthropologie employees, (and I'm sure this applies to CS as well) don't entertain such questions

  24. March 25, 2010 / 10:26 pm

oh no! i never did find the answer to the peskiest question (despite my google black belt) and it is indeed a crafty idea to call directly to get help, but it's a bummer for anthro too.still a fabulous contest idea and like tien, i will guess that particular pesky answer ;)sorry this happened! 🙁

  25. March 25, 2010 / 10:28 pm

As an avid googler, I really don't think it was necessary to call anthrop stores. There is nothing a well-formed google search query cannot unearth! I'm sad you had to cancel the contest. Will you post the questions you were planning for tomorrow (with answers of course so that people don't start calling them again) anyways? As a last hurrah?

  26. March 25, 2010 / 10:29 pm

Wow. I can't believe people did that either – Google has ALL the answers, and I found most of the answers on THIS blog. Sorry it had to end this way, it's kind of appalling. Like Tien and others I've learned a lot about Anthro from doing this contest, and hope you don't get any backlash from it due to lazy players. 😛 It really was a fun contest (if you were hunting for answers yourself), and it absolutely deepened my respect for the Anthro brand (reading about catering to the customer, the experience, the emphasis on culture, etc.). Thanks so much for holding it in the first place!

  27. March 25, 2010 / 10:32 pm

Boo! No need to call the company when your friendly neighborhood library (and Google) have all the answers.

  28. March 25, 2010 / 10:40 pm

Awww I'm sorry to hear the contest had to get killed Roxy – what a bummer.I had to kill one of my previous contests in the past, so I know how discouraging it is. It was so nice of you to do this!

  29. March 25, 2010 / 10:40 pm

I guess that shows that you made some tough questions!! I'm sorry that it had to end, but thank you for putting in all this work 🙂

  30. March 25, 2010 / 10:47 pm

What is going on with blogger? Comments are coming up so slowly… and sometimes mine are just eaten!

  31. March 25, 2010 / 10:48 pm

erinaomi – the winners will be drawn from people who entered all three days (tues/wed/today). I am still taking answers for today!!! Until 11:59 EST.Yowza – absolutely, I think the saddest part is I was making the questions harder as the week went on so I had a couple of good ones for tomorrow! But I will post them all anyway so peeps can see where I was going with it.And to all else, thanks much for the support. 🙂

That's so unfortunate! I was actually having a lot of fun looking for answers and getting to know URBN the company better! I even read URBN's 10k today! This contest is more likely to have a positive impact on URBN stock price. Its too bad they quashed it.

  33. March 25, 2010 / 10:58 pm

I was having so much fun searching the internet and never thought to call a store or HQ – oh well. It was fun while it lasted and thanks agin for doing!!!

  34. March 25, 2010 / 11:09 pm

I am very sorry you had to end the contest early. Thank you very much for all of the effort you put into it. I do have a question. When I submitted my answers days 1 and 2 I quickly received a reply acknowledging the submission. I did not receive one today. Should I resubmit my entry for day 3?

  35. March 25, 2010 / 11:13 pm

Oh darn! Honestly, the thought of calling stores and HQ never crossed my mind! I was having the best time upping my Anthro knowledge via Google, the blog & discovering other blogs!I had a wonderful time regardless. Once the contest is over, would you consider posting the answers? Thanks for the fun, Roxy!

  36. March 25, 2010 / 11:14 pm

Roxy~I'm so sorry to hear about the contest ending early – it was a really great idea! Btw, I have the same concern as SZMOM. Should I email my answers again?! Thanks!

  37. March 25, 2010 / 11:15 pm

Hmm, some people have reported not getting the auto-response email. If you're concerned please re-submit your answers.

  38. March 25, 2010 / 11:16 pm

Very sad you had to cut this Roxy – I was having a fabulous time searching for answers which was EXTRA challenging because my work doesn't allow access to Anthropologie's website (instable webpage perhaps?). I had to be smart and used cached links where possible! And I did consider calling Anthro – but I didn't think it was worth the effort calling from Australia!

  39. March 25, 2010 / 11:20 pm

What a shame! It took me a few hours to find answers to all the questions online (two in particular were REALLY difficult to answer)- but I thought the challenge was fun! Plus, I've learned a lot of new things about Anthro…I'm disappointed that there won't be a set of new questions tomorrow but I'm very grateful that you are still drawing a winner! I'm sure a lot of us spent countless time scouring the Internet for our answers… Good luck everybody!

  40. March 25, 2010 / 11:20 pm

Come to think of it, i didn't get an auto response either.I will resubmit mine, just in case.

  41. March 25, 2010 / 11:21 pm

Oh, that's unfortunate. I was enjoying using my MLIS to search out all the information. I learned a lot and had fun. Thank you.

  42. March 25, 2010 / 11:22 pm

I almost don't care about winning anymore. I was scouring the internet like a mad woman and I will only rest easy once I finally get the answer (and like, a link to where you discovered this). I *almost* don't care about winning. 😉

  43. March 25, 2010 / 11:24 pm

Roxy, I just re-submitted and got the automated response!

  44. March 25, 2010 / 11:25 pm

I didn't get an auto response either. Should I be concerned?Erikaeschene@gmail.com

  45. March 25, 2010 / 11:29 pm

Wow, I can honestly say I never even thought of calling CS or one of the stores!! I thing it's way more fun trying to find the answers on your own. I was able to read some pretty interesting articles about Anthro because of my research. Sad news, but great contest either way Roxy!!

  46. March 25, 2010 / 11:30 pm

I have to go against the grain here and say that I'm not surprised that people contacted Anthropologie. I was one of them – I did not contact them by phone, but by the little contact form on anthro's website. Before you write me off as cheating or otherwise, I'd just like to say that just like everyone, I spent hours googling, using CTRL+F, and the like and never finding the answer that I was looking for. I never did receive an answer from Anthro CS, and in the end, I couldn't wait any longer anyway. I just had to submit my answers and cross my fingers that CS wouldn't email me back with a different answer. Little did I know that there was no chance of them emailing me back at all.About a 45 after sending in my answers, I saw Roxy's post about the contest ending and felt awful. It never occurred to me not to use every resource to figure out the right answers. I loved this contest. It's true that I've learned so much about Anthro over the last 3 days. Of course, I don't want to be disqualified because I worked hard on it every day, just like everyone else. But Roxy, I defer to you.

  47. March 25, 2010 / 11:38 pm

roxycant believe people were calling the stores!!!!thanks for runnning the contest anyway

  48. March 25, 2010 / 11:40 pm

Roxy, I'm happy to hear that you will be submitting tomorrow's questions for the heck of it! looking forward to (trying to) answer them!

  49. March 25, 2010 / 11:42 pm

I was too much of a chicken to call CS but I don't blame anybody who did. You were just making the most out of the available resources! I also have fabulous googling skills thanks to googling 293842984 things during my student career so I LOVED being able to use my ~skillz on something that interested me for once! I can't wait to see what questions you had planned for tomorrow, Roxy! I hope you don't post the answers straightaway so that we all get a chance to mull over the questions!

  50. March 25, 2010 / 11:53 pm

Honestly, I can't believe that people resorted to calling the company. Personally, I knew most of the answers already from a project I did on the company last semester, and I found 99% of that on Google. I did have the advantage of an extra resource for the question about the highest volume store (my university has a database where you can look up info on publicly traded companies) but other than that I didn't have to do any special searching. Everything either came from this blog, the Anthro website, or the Urban Outfitters Inc. website. Oh well. I got in my answers for all 3 days, so now i just have to wait and see if I win 🙂

  51. March 25, 2010 / 11:58 pm

Yikes. I never thought to chat up customer service, I just wasted hours searching the internet, ha ha! Here's to you, smarties! Bravo!Roxy, thanks so much for running this. I really had fun learning more about my favorite store. While searching for answers I learned so much more (and caught up on your blog, since i only just found you in early January of this year)!

  52. March 26, 2010 / 12:06 am

I think it is funny that people are calling Anthro for answers to the point that Anthro ask you to stop the contest. I wonder how long it took for Anthro to connect the dots. Love to know what was your expression when you read that e-mail from Anthro. LOL!

    March 26, 2010 / 12:15 am

my first thought was actually that the people who contacted anthro were idiots, not cheaters. i'm not playing, but i found the answers pretty quickly and easily on google, faster than i would have by calling CS or a store. i understand better after reading sarah's response. sorry for you, roxy and everyone playing. my husband i were enjoying learning about anthro! 🙂

  54. March 26, 2010 / 12:29 am

I can't believe people called – half the phone was Googling and poking around your blog, Roxy! Thanks again for doing this 🙂

  55. March 26, 2010 / 12:45 am

I'm going to close comments on this thread at this point. I understand that it's frustrating that the contest had to end early, but I don't want to continue any negativity here. No one's an idiot, no one's a cheater. It is a game! It is meant to be fun. People were just utilizing every available resource. If you're mad at anyone, be mad at me. I obviously didn't think this through enough to write a complete set of rules. Please do not insult fellow community members. That is the opposite of what I wanted to create here.
