New arrivals: Blouses and Cardis and Jeggings (oh no)

It’s all smiles when you’re a model! But in the immortal words of The Fug Girls, tights are not pants. And I don’t think jeggings count either. Jeggings by the way are denim leggings. Cry. But we’ll get to those in a bit.

Porridge’s Country Manor Top ($68) originally debuted a couple of months ago but this month brought some new patterns. I love the Wright-reminiscent pattern on the far left. This shirt is nice and soft. I see it mostly as a weekend piece but Anthropologie succeeded in dressing the middle variation up. Horses are never a bad thing.

Flowers, flowers everywhere. Some are attached, like on Deletta’s Grand Affair Tank ($88), Little Yellow Button’s Zigzags & Zinnias Tee ($68) and the Variegated Rosette Shirt ($78) by Yoana Baraschi. Some are embroidered like Floreat’s Solar Star Blouse ($98) and some are prints like Tiny’s Buds & Stripes Top ($78). Review of the Tiny top coming up on Monday. All of these tops are easily layerable and have palettes that work both now and layer. Well, the Floreat top might be too sunny for winter in NYC. But that has never stopped me before!

Shades of grey abound from the Stepping-Out Tee ($88) by Bordeaux and the birthday wishlisted Stratus Cloud Top ($78) by Red Bird. I also saw the Through-the-Clouds Tank ($68) from Deletta in a sky blue with shades of grey in it in-store — a different, lighter shade than the dark grey shade that has sold out online. What I like about these tops is that they are simple yet chic and can be worn as an underlayer now and by themselves later — just like the tops above this mini-set. I can’t wait to try some outfits out with these.

Anthro’s spring dresses all seem to embody classic shapes. Maeve’s Fifth Form Shift ($128) has a ruched bodice that almost looks like a bow; while their Traced Denim Dress ($118) might be exactly the denim dress I’ve been looking for. Orla Kiely makes a return to Anthro’s racks with her Beanstalk Dress ($208) and Corey Lynn Calter’s Larkspur Capelet Dress ($188) is a different shape then the designer normally does. Consider me intrigued.

Charlotte Tarantola is taking Anthro’s cardigan section by storm. Still waiting for this lace one to hit the website, but in the meantime we’ve got the Happy Hour Cardigan ($128) and the Unbroken Chains Cardigan ($128) to consider. Let’s see, I see a D-ring snaffle, a chain-link snaffle…

Deep breaths. The only thing scarier than jeggings is that most of them are already sold out from the NYC Anthros. The fashion apocalypse approaches. That means you, J Brand Sable Leggings ($165), Joe’s Medium Rinse Leggings ($92), AG Denim Leggings ($150) and Joe’s Dark Rinse Leggings ($78).

To rescue me from jeggings I think I’ll go with a pretty skirt. Anthro’s got some nice pencil skirts to choose from but the Ocean Mist Skirt ($128) by Floreat and Eva Franco’s Aniseed Skirt ($128) are at the top of my list. I tried on the second skirt and it’s amazing. Full review upcoming.

i'm so torn. i love the 40s shape of the denim dress, and it's a shape that really suits my figure, but i can't bear teh look or feel of denim. this dress needs a lighter flutterier fabric. similarly, i love the cut and placket of the chains cardigan but the print is just a little too s&m for me. i really need a blue cardigan too, i really would love this in a solid blue. oh well.

I love the larkspur capelet dress- it's on my list to try on.OT, my always a lady skirt arrived today- it's a little big, but not falling off. I think my seamstress can take it in a little. I will make it work.

Hi Roxy,This is off-topic, but I just wanted to thank you for your Anthro sizing guide. I use it all the time, and it is super helpful!Cheers,Sarah

Well, I will say that jeggings are a nice respite for those of us who work jobs that are physically demanding but still have to look put together. I love this little roundup!

I tried the Aniseed skirt on the last time I was in the store. It's so beautiful. It didn't seem to add bulk in my hips, even though I'm quite hippy. I bought the Wind Rippled Tee in turquoise to go with it. I can't wait to see how you style it 🙂

Not sure how I feel about the 'jeggings'..a little too pricey for me though…maybe if they were on sale but for now I think I'll stick to skinny jeans…On the bright side, I am loving the spring blouses that just came out…So Cal's winters do not last very long and I'm not ready for spring attire yet. I love cold weather attire such as jackets, boots and tights…

Anon I would love to see the Traced Denim Dress in another fabric too.Molly Darling I hope your seamstress is able to make the skirt work! Good luck. :)Sarah – awesome, pumped to hear that. That reminds me I need to update for some newer brands.bonjouritsjinah – fair enough. It's not like I don't have my own irrational loves. Like rompers. I love them, even though they are a crime.Alicia I liked the shape of the skirt so much! I was surprised to read the negative reviews on the product page, so I'm going to add my own positive review tomorrow.

Sharon I am loving them too. It was 25 degrees here in NYC today so that's making it easy to wait it out until these hit sale. Come warmer weather though my purse will be crying.

I was just thinking how pretty Through the Clouds tank would look in blue. I got the ivory and I love it even though ivory (or grey) is not usually my thing as I am really pale but this one surprising works. But now I want it in blue.

I just got the aniseed skirt today in the mail and I love love love it!

  11. January 10, 2010 / 3:09 am

nice round-up, thanks!i'm looking forward to seeing your review of the aniseed skirt–i was immediately intrigued when i saw it on the website..saw it in person today, and it's total love! granted, i have yet to try it on, but i'm looking forward to that!er..i actually own a pair of jeggings-yikes! shh-don't tell! i don't wear them often but i have to admit, they're super comfortable (esp when you're running after a toddler!) and hold up better in the wash then my old-school leggings! btw, was at the 5th ave/16th st (nyc) shop today–had a fairly well stocked sale section–including some markdowns i hadn't noticed before including leifsdottir's supernova dress and skirt. also seems like they restocked some FP items like the verite…

My store had the light blue/grey Through the Clouds tank as well – picked it up today along with the ivory, which I've been pining after for weeks. Both will work great as under layers, and later with pants/crops/shorts. As a 5'4" short torso-ed gal, I do have to say they probably wont work with skirts for me – they're pretty long.

I'm actually happy to jump on the jeggings train, and have been looking for a decent pair- I actually sometimes hate skinny jeans because they get all bunchy in the thighs and knees (I have a weird body shape for someone my size!) and I'm thinking jeggings will eliminate that little issue.Or, you know, make it worse.BUT I HAVE TO TRY. HAVE TO!

  14. January 10, 2010 / 4:32 am

Jeggings? I know what you mean. I have enough of an issue finding skinny jeans that fit, so I can only imagine how the jeggings will look. However, if I find a pair that do fit at Anthro and they are on sale, now that would be a different story. Nice round up of the new stuff. I'm loving the Traced Denim dress and the Happy Hour cardi and both are on my wishlist. My birthday isn't till April, so hopefully I can hold on and not buy some of the 15 things on my Spring wishlist till then when I get the birthday discount. The Status Cloud top is very similiar to a top that sold out that Ann Taylor had a couple of months ago. I snagged that in an ivory color. Very versitile. Can't wait to see your review and I hope you to do of the Ocean Mist skirt.Sorry for the long post.

I love the Aniseed skirt. To me it looks so expensive, like something Mui Mui would design. It's definitely a statement maker, but I can't wait to wear mine 🙂 Let me know what you pair yours with!

Jeggings – UGH. I am not opposed to people wearing these, they are not my cuppa, but whatever. What really gets my panties in a bunch though is that there are NO OTHER OPTIONS in jeans right now other than skinny and skinnier. I like my skinnies as much as the next person (well, that's not exactly true, I am more of a bootcut gal) but seriously, most humans don't look good in jeans that fit as a second skin. Anthro please, please bring back some jeans with fabric. Thank you for the reviews Roxy. Love the "Ablaze Dress" on you. Will you style the "Here and There" dress (for work) when you have time?

  17. January 10, 2010 / 2:04 pm

I am dying to get a pair of jeggings, I really am. I am so glad that Anthro is carrying them, must check them out now. Thanks for all the reviews Roxy!

Hi Roxy,This is OT, but I am looking for your review on a short sleeve sweater tunic. It's a knit sweater where it's a heavier knit on the top and lighter after the waist. It cream and has a scoopneck.

  20. January 10, 2010 / 2:49 pm

Is it totally awful that I just ordered my first pair of legging jeans (I refuse to call them jeggings)? Everyone kept raving about how comfy they were I just had to try them!

  21. January 10, 2010 / 2:57 pm

Bronzi – you can make your comments as long as you like! The hardest part about December for me was waiting until January for my birthday month! So many great sales.Denise – sure, added to my list.Lucy – I got my birthday discount card just before New Year's. The earliness might have been because of the holidays. I'm pretty sure they come by the 7th of the month in most cases. I think they mail all the cards for the month out at once. It's based on a lottery system among anthro members, so you need to have the card but that doesn't guarantee you get the discount. However, if you don't get one customer service is very good about manually mailing you one.Is this it Diem?J no that's not awful. Clearly jeggings have many fans here!

    Yep! Thank!

  23. January 10, 2010 / 4:51 pm

I admire those that can wear jeggings, but i dont hink i can pull them off! Thanks forthe roundup!

  24. January 10, 2010 / 8:45 pm

Eek Jeggings! I had no idea that these even existed. I have to agree with the sentiment that "tights are not pants." There's nothing worse than teaching a class full of 18 year olds who don't understand this simple fact.

  25. January 10, 2010 / 8:47 pm

Also, I had no idea that the birthday discount was on a lottery system! I didn't receive one last year, so I figured that my Anthro card wasn't registered properly and I re-registered it online. This year, I'll make sure to ask CS if I don't receive one…

  26. January 15, 2010 / 3:15 pm

I just bought the fifth form last night. I LOVE it! It is super flattering, great coverage up top and a nice slim fit through the dress. And the waistband makes me (apple shape) look like I have a little waist. The fabric is so soft too, which is why I picked it up. Looks like nothing great on the hanger. I would love an idea on who to make it a little more wintery so I can wear it before spring.

  27. January 15, 2010 / 3:16 pm

Great to hear Farmer Jo since we're similar shapes. I saw the dress last night but I was already on the checkout line so I didn't try it on. Makes me excited to try it this weekend. 🙂

  28. January 16, 2010 / 7:14 pm

AND it looks adorable with the roses and lace cardi (I think that is the name. Has blue and green roses on it with black lace down the front!)

  29. March 2, 2010 / 7:35 pm

    Ha! I love jeggings!
