Reviews: Draped with and without success, plus a favor

When I pass by a pretty teal top I have to try it on. Even if I already own 10,000 of them. (I do.) Velvet’s All-Day Eddy Tee ($58) would look great under a blazer. By itself? Probably a longshot.

The reality wasn’t quite as bad as I was expecting, which is no knock on the shirt. I figured the close fit wouldn’t be especially flattering on me and it’s not. This is the medium, the large was swimming everywhere but the bust. Not every shirt is going to be made for me and that’s the case with this one. I really like this shirt — one someone else. The twist is really pretty and well-done.

I would question how long the jersey would retain its lovely color but with some light detergent you should be able to at least extend its life. $58 is a low price point for Anthropologie. A winner, just not for me.

My luck was better with one.september’s Candelabra Top ($88). This shirt is draping done very well on busts both large and small. It’s very soft, like a nice pillow. It has a smattering of beadwork both at the neckline and the waistline. There are tiny snaps along the placket…I worry about them coming undone at an inopportune time but it does not take away from the loveliness of the top.

I tried on the grey in a small. This top read as a steely blue to me. I think it calls for a different bra but otherwise I really liked it on. I see this as a top for all seasons that justifies the price tag (almost). To the wishlist it goes!

The last top of the day was Odille’s Present Perfect Tunic ($98) which has a printed cousin in the Printed Present Tunic ($98). Both versions of the top have been getting good reviews online so I’m bummed to say that this was a complete fail on me. I’m embarrassed to admit that the sash was giving me a really hard time. It was what drew me to the top in the first place — all pretty sparkles and beads and yumminess.

Not only could I not get the damn thing to unfurl and sit with all beads displayed on my waist, I also could not keep it tied. It kept coming untied as I tried to take pics. So much so that I asked one of the fitting room attendants to tie it for me, and then it still came untied! You could fix this by double-knotting the tie…but that’s going to make the top awfully hard to get out of. No thanks.

And now ladies, I have a favor to ask. A friend of mine who is an Anthropologie employee has temporarily extended her friends & family discount to me but sadly that time will be coming to an end very soon. The discount has been put to good use — I’ve bought things for myself but I’ve also bought several prizes to use in giveaways on the blog. If you are an Anthropologie employee not currently sharing the F&F portion of your discount, or if you know an employee willing to share out their F&F with me, please email me. It’s a perk I’d love to continue utilizing if possible.

I would never even try the first tee (though I love the peacock-y color) because I have enough clothes I need to wear a cami under. One of my few beefs with Anthro is the number of their tops and dresses which are so so low-cut. Someone who is super slim and "boyish" might look flirty in a really low cut top, but bigger women like me end up looking hoeish. (ps. I keep hoping for a review of this sweater coat, http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/produ… , I'm so in love with the cut but the color and price make me hesitate)

I unfortunately can't share my F&F discount, as it's already been spoken for, but get your friend to hold out until December. There's a bit Employee Appreciation (where you get 40% off) coming up!

Anon, I have been not-so-patiently waiting for the Cape Coat Cardigan to make it to one of the NYC Anthros, but it's either not there yet or I missed it. Hopefully it will show up soon.Anthro Employee, thank you for the heads up! 🙂 Unfortunately I think my access will run out before then. We'll see.

Roxy, I think you rocked the Eddy tee, SO hourglass! The Winged Victory was a great purchase for you, glad you can keep it.

Ahhhh I wish we would start working at my new Anthro store so I could use my discount! Hopefully I'll be in there by Decemmer when the employee appreciation period starts ;-)Really love that 2nd blouse on you and I think the first looks nice as well.

I really love the candelabra top on you. Look great.I've seen the Cape Coat Cardigan at my store. The color looks like an olive chartreuse, if that makes any sense. It's pretty muted. I was going to try it on, but my boyfriend took a look at it, and shook his head, no.I'm going back tonight to pick up something I placed on hold, so maybe I could give it a try.

Do you know if you can use the friends and family discount online? If so…. where and how? Thanks!

Brewer Family, I hope you don't find me rude but I'd rather not discuss the logistics of the F&F discount here. If you have access to it an employee can help you set up anything you need access to. 🙂

Brewer Family – Friends and Family discounts cannot be shared. The people who receive them are given specific information that is triple checked either by the online system or whoever rings them up to ensure that the discount isn't being used by someone who didn't directly receive it by an employee. Sorry!

LOL That last top in this post, I have, and the dang tie thingy definitely folds down and won't stay "shown". It irritates me and I thought it was because my boobs were too big- maybe it is, but at least someone else has the same issue.:-) It's still so pretty though.
