Reviews: Bull’s Eye Dress

Anthropologie at ShopStyle

Note: Thank you all for your help culling my cart this week. I am still way over budget but it helped inspire me to make a need list for fall (not much) and a want list (very long). Plenty more reviews to come though as there is just so much at Anthropologie I want to try on.

Lil! You’re back. I hadn’t seen any items by Lil in awhile until the Floating Lotus Dress ($168) appeared back in the Spring. And now here’s the Bull’s Eye Dress ($158) which looks very similar to one of Lil’s late summer dresses from last year. Not that I mind — both are simply lovely.

I had to brighten these photos a bunch so note that the product photo above is the true color — navy. I tried on a size 6 so I’ll declare this dress true to size. The ruffles down the front had been steamed prior to display or had survived the trip intact. Big props to the 16th/5th Ave (NYC) Anthropologie for that because I despise trying on any item with flat ruffles. The dress has a belt with only 3 notches. My waist is not that tiny and I still had plenty of gap even on the tightest notch.

It’s hard to tell from the product photo but this dress has a neck tie. Above is the zoom, do you see the two straps hanging down? Personally I’m not a fan of these ties but it’s a great idea and I’ll tell you why. With the ties tied they create a very flattering shape for ladies who are smaller on top. It will look classic and the ruffles create a sense of balance. Allowing the top to remain open helps ladies with medium to larger-sized chests create the illusion of space, drawing the eye upward and creating a more flattering shape. You can see in the real life shots I have the tie closed and it ends up making me look much bigger on top than I am.

If I bought this dress I would probably cut the ties off but overall I didn’t find the dress very flattering on me. So it went back to the rack. But the material is great, the pattern is great and I still highly recommend this dress.

Have you considered the Black and Bright dress from Moulinette Soeurs?I think it is very flattering. Anyone here has taken a chance on it? What do you think about design and fitting?

I like it!I try to take pics while in the dressing room at my Anthro and they come out horrible. I think the lighting is bad or something. I'll have reviews of Anthro items several times this week, including today, here.

Anonymous, I have not seen the Black & Bright dress in stores by me yet. If I do see it I will try it on. I love the bottom pattern.
