Present under glass

Sometimes my love of nature and the city conflict with each other. I’ve found a lot more green in NYC than I expected in the form of parks. But when it comes to my personal green thumb I’ve been suffering the touch of death. I killed a cactus — that’s pretty impressive. (And sad!) Of course now I live in an apartment that actually gets natural sunlight. So it’s with cautious optimism that I mmhm’ed Anthro’s terrariums. Little mini greenhouses? Possibilities they are a’coming.

Anthro has three shapes: the Bell Jar Terrarium ($78) and large ($228) and small ($168) tabletop terrariums. I think I’d probably start with succulents to be safe, but maybe an orchid in the large one? Anything that is hardy. I have a stalk of bamboo that is going strong at the moment…maybe it’s time to introduce plants back into the picture. The other thing I like about terrariums is that it will keep curious pets from nom’ing on your favorite fern. Does it stop the spread of allergins too?

Lately I'm really intrigued by terrariums. I like these but wow, are they pricy! I found one in a pear shape that I think is really cute (wrote about it here). I may stalk the Anthro ones and see if they go on sale. They are a bit more rustic than the pear one I like.
