Email: Survey says…

Because the photo above is kind of small, I’d like to transcribe the text of today’s Anthropologie email: In a recent product preview, customers chose the Swept Away Top ($68) as their favorite summertime tee.

Product preview? When and where does this happen and how do I get an invite? Would I get to hobnob with the product designers? How many products are previewed? And how is said product preview done? Do you get scorecards from 1-10?

Or is it done Family Feud-style, with a host who says something like, “We asked 200 people, ‘Name an Anthropologie summertime tee that you plan to purchase.’ The top 5 answers are on the board,” and then if you get 3 strikes for not answering what the marketing team wants you to they read the answers and you and the crowd are a little surprised that the Tattered Tulip Top ($68) was only at number 5 on the board? Oh, heh, guess that’s just me. (I vote for Chris Harrison for host by the way.)

Back on topic, I concur with the mysterious panel that chose the Swept Away Top. I already bought it in Slate and am seriously considering buying the pink as well. Deletta has really done well with shapes for summer this year. I bought the top in a small and have worn it both dressed up and dressed down. Just a heads up: when you wash the top, the over-layer needs a little bit of help regaining the gentle waves shown in the product photo. I accomplished it by shaping it wet and laying it flat until it was damp-dry. And then — no joke — I hung it out in the breeze to dry it the rest of the way. Worked like a charm. Have you bought this top? Are ya thinking about it? Or is this not a winner for you?

UPDATE: here are a few IRL shots (contrary to what the last pic shows the shirt is NOT two-tone, it’s all one color…):

Oh, this was that survey I took where they sent me a free shirt. For the review though, this one actually has sleeves. I think they took customer feedback and made it a tank instead. this was my second favorite. I love it so much more as a tank top.

Aha! Thanks val. I guess my dreams of Family Feud are dashed though.

How is the small compared to others you have bought? I would love to buy this top but have no idea whether to buy small or medium. Thanks, Nancy

Hi Nancy, I purchased the small over the medium because the fit was better around my waist and shoulders. I found the medium was sitting too far out on my shoulders and there was a lot of spare material around my natural waist. It looked kinda droopy. The small was much better but not clingy in any way. The Adorn V-Neck, Looped Aster Tank and Cinched V-Neck all had similar fits if that is helpful at all.

Hmmm, I didn't even know about this top I've been absorbed in others. So tell me, this top is so amazingly delicate looking and I love that pink, since you have it I must ask the question…do you need to wear any tank underneath? It does look shear… I think I better buy it before it's gone seeing as it is so "popular"!

Just an FYI-I checked my wish list and the Sgraffito Squareneck was in! I snagged the medium but there still is a large left. It is not on the site, but if you google the name with anthropologie it should take you right to it. Fun! I misssed it when it went on sale.

I'd like to know how to get in on this survey action. But then again I'd also like to get the catalogues. I guess a gal can't have it all.Seriously val, how did you get to voice an opinion? I have lots of ideas of things I would like to see.

Huh! I am pleasantly surprised to hear the raves. I thought this might be one of those items that looks awesome online but it a bit of a hot mess in person. Awww great. Now I covet.(:

Same, PBP. Roxy, it looks fabulous on you. Wow. And I'm sold! 😉

I loved this shirt in theory, but both of the colors were ugly. They originally had the "slate" listed as being navy, but I thought it was an awkward color anyway (would have loved it in black!). The pink is really more nude and exactly matched the color of my skin. 🙁

I just did a product review survey of sweaters for Anthro…I think they just randomly survey people from their mailing list. =]
