Reviews: Sprinkled Chiffon Top, Nouveau Bomber, Boot Camp Jacket

Last week I was in Colorado and visited my sister. This past weekend my sister surprised me with a visit to NYC and Yankees tickets! We were at the marathon game Saturday night against the Angels and it was amazing. Best baseball game I’ve ever seen live. My sister is awesome for buying the tickets but she’s even better for tagging along with me to Anthropologie. All 3 of them. I didn’t exactly have to twist her arm or anything, true, but it was a nice sisterly gesture. Over the past two weeks we’ve been to 5 Anthropologies in 2 different states. I don’t even want to think about how much we spent.

I’d also like to say a quick thank you to the Rockefeller Center Anthro, the staff of which was kind enough to put my sister and I in pad 3 (that’s probably not the real term, but it’s what I remember) of the fitting rooms so we could be in rooms next to each other. No rock star treatment here — they have no idea who I am (I think). They would have done it for any sisters and I truly appreciate it!

My favorite purchase was the Flocked Chiffon Blouse ($148, review here). I ended up buying the top in a 12(!) which is an astounding 3 sizes above normal for me. This was mostly due to the length of the blouse — it’s quite short. None of the other Mise-en-Scene pieces were so drastically askew from my normal size. So if you plan on buying this top and you’re tall be aware.

I was glad the Flocked Chiffon Blouse worked out because it masked my disappointment with the Sprinkled Chiffon Top ($128). I am not really sure what happened here except to say that somewhere between the model shot, the production, the hanger and me something went terribly wrong! Someone please call the fit police. This is a small you see above on me.

I have seen this top look stunning on other people. Not me though. I know it’s supposed to be flowy but it looked more like a sparkly shower curtain than a draped top on me. There are lots of unfinished edges which is intentional. Expect some fraying along these edges. The jewels are great. A really nice touch.

I needed an x-small but unfortunately the Soho Anthropologie was out and I didn’t see this top at either of the other NYC Anthros. In addition to be being too big the small was also too short. I would have liked it to be about 3 inches longer. Pass for me.

I thought I remembered seeing the Nouveau Bomber ($88) in stores a few months ago even though it’s an “online-only” item. Then Sunday I saw it again, this time at the Rockefeller Center store. The High Street jacket is a rayon-spandex mix that is light and chic. I think it would make a great fall jacket. It’s nowhere near thick enough for cold weather. I’d pair this with a scarf in real life but here I have it over the Flocked Chiffon Blouse to mimic the effect. I tried on the jacket in a medium. It snapped closed with no issue.

Broken record time: it was a little shorter than I would have liked. It sat high hip, almost at my natural waist. But it’s a quibble. I love the look of this jacket! It has that bomber jacket feel but it also has a distinct feminine quality from the slight bell of the sleeves at the wrist to the brass snaps that lend an Amelia Earhart-esque feel to it. I have one of those pilot hats with the goggles — I used to wear it on really windy days when they had their moment a few years ago. Maybe it’s time to break it out again.

My sister bought the Boot Camp Jacket ($98) last week. I asked her if I could try it on in that way where you’re not really asking but instead declaring. Luckily she was cool about it. The jacket is by Hei Hei. I tried on a 10 (too big) and the photos above are the 8 (also too big). My true size 6 would have been perfect. They had already been snatched up by other Anthro fans at the 16th St/5th Ave store.

I tried it on over the Full Twist Tee ($68, review here — scroll down in the post) which I see is getting savaged in the reviews online! I’m surprised as I really liked the top. The coat is called green online but I think dark teal is more accurate. The jacket closes via 5 buttons or you can use the string waistband as a cinch. I wasn’t able to repeat that look as well as my sister since the 8 was a bit big on me. Hopefully you get the idea.

Like the Nouveau Bomber this is a great fall coat. It’s a classic shape that would make great utility or weekend wear. The large pockets are great too. I liked this coat a lot but will probably wait for it to go on sale.

One final note — I have a whole list of review requests, and I just wanted to let the requesters know I haven’t forgotten you! Just waiting for products to make it into the store. If you have a request just leave a comment with the item you’d like to see or shoot me an email. Cheers.

Share the same saga with the sprinkled chiffon blouse. I stalked my local Anthro. calling every few days to see when it would be arrive but when it finally did I was so disappointed. So I still looking for the perfect holiday top to dress down or up depending on the venue.

You look great in the Nouveau Bomber!!! the Flocked Chiffon Blouse seems to fit you very well.I want to try the Sprinkled Chiffon Top when I'll go to NY, I am expecting a lot of this top because the reviews were super positive on the website, I hope I will not be disappointed.

Too bad about the Sprinkled Chiffon Top, it looked so lovely in the catalog. I think they must have styled the heck out of it. The back is probably full of clothespins.

i also thought that the sprinkled chiffon top was a hot mess. really disappointing after such rave reviews on the website. granted, i had to try an M when i normally wear an XS (and i doubt an XS would have even worked), but the quality was also not great. there was a lot of fraying and i would have preferred the "sprinkles" to be a bit sparkly. i would really like to see pictures of those who have had success with it. have you (or any of your readers) seen the sheer and light blouse in store?

I want to see the "Late Afternoon Pullover" — it hasn't arrived in my local stores yet.

The sprinkled chiffon top was an absolute disaster. I went to two stores, tired on an s and xs. It looked awful and very cheap. I tried it on anyway because I had to be sure. The thing was pretty awful.
