Reviews: Sheer Delights

Anthropologie at ShopStyle

Items are so deceptive sitting on the display table at Anthropologie. I could tell the Alpine Meadow Pullover ($98) was thin on the table but I had no idea just how thin until I put it on.

Sigh. Riddle me this, Anthro: how does a sheer thin sweater keep you warm? It’s not that I’m against layering something underneath this sweater. But the see-thru aspect boggles the mind.

Moving on. This Moth sweater has a thick cowlneck-esque neckline and floral embroidery on either side. The flowers are pretty but I found they pulled the fabric regardless of what size I was wearing, creating an unflattering accent on the hips. The photos above are the small, which I would say was the best fit. It’s a bummer because this sweater had great potential. For me the execution fell short.

We’ve got a double shot in the picture above. Odille’s Four-If-By-Sea Skirt ($128) is a new arrival while the Tevy Scoopneck (now $30) by Deletta is a sale rack find. I have the shirt tucked in so you can see the fullness of the skirt. The top is actually nice and long, hitting me mid-hip when untucked. I liked everything about the top except the sheerness. In all fairness pairing a white bra with a dark brown top is asking for trouble but even a nude bra would be somewhat visible. I tried on the Tevy Scoopneck in a small and that’s the size I would buy.

Odille has been focused on full skirts as of late and you won’t hear me complaining. I’m not a huge fan of the exposed zipper but otherwise this skirt was quite pleasant to wear. The acetate lining prevents this skirt from being the third sheer item in this review (thanks Odille!). I sized down to a 6, which is the size I normally take in Odille skirts. This put the skirt right at my waist. I’d size up to hip it. I feel like this skirt is a bit out-of-season for the Northeast. However down South or out West where it’s perma-warm I think this skirt would be perfect.

One other sale find I rather liked was Weston Wear’s Galaxy Fold Top (now $40). The top comes in either a grey motif floral pattern or the black motif dot pattern you see on me above. I tried the medium on. It fit close to my body but not so much as to create folds or lumps. The asymmetric ruffle is a cool accent. It was driving me nuts though. I kept trying to straighten the ruffle! I like the length and would pair this top with a pencil skirt. For now though I left it at the store.

I felt the same way about the Galaxy Fold Top! It's very cute in concept but the ruffles bothered me. I also left that at the store. 🙂

I didn't like the Galaxy Fold Top either. I kept pulling at the ruffles to get it to lay straight.

The Four-If-By-Sea skirt looks wonderful on you! I tried it on last week, and the SA suggested pairing it with some dark grey tights for fall. I thought it was a lovely skirt but didn't buy–I'm only 5'3", and some full skirts just make me look like I'm playing dress-up (and not in a good way). 🙂 This particular skirt seems to be even a bit fuller than some of the other Odille skirts in stores right now. Looks great on your taller frame, though!

i agree with the ruffle on the Galaxy fold top. Also tried it on and left it at the store. Didn't know what to do with that ruffle, and in profile – not flattering. i thought i would like it, but i was wrong.
