Reviews: Sweaters and the layers beneath

I cannot stop thinking about this outfit. I want everything in it! I’ve already reviewed Idra’s Bowtied Mini ($98, review here) and Odille’s Dewpoint Blouse ($68, review here) but last weekend I finally saw the Web & Loom Cardigan ($148).

This Field Flower by Wendi Reed sweater was perfection from the moment I put it on. I tried on my true size medium and it was very comfortable. The sweater closes in front (though not completely) via several hook-and-eye closures. The placket is layered with a red trim that looks like a bow, cabled yarn and then marled wool makes up the rest. The combination is fantastic, and there’s attention to detail from the buttons near the cuff to the snowflake pattern on the back of the sweater. So impressive. This kind of sweater is worth its price tag in my opinion and it’s on my short list for December.

Knitted & Knotted continues to impress with their offerings. This is the Decorating Committee Cardigan ($118). I want to be on this committee! The cardigan is a pretty robin’s egg blue and it has just the right amount of sparkle for me to wear to work during this holiday month. My true size medium was right on the money. It buttoned easily with no gaps or pulling. In the store the cardi was layered over Eloise’s Ruffled Cami ($58) so I repeated the look on myself. The cami is indeed pretty with it’s oversized ruffle. Perfect for layering. Once again it was my true size medium all the way. I was all set to buy this until I spotted the price. I hope it comes with a silk worm! If not, I’m waiting for sale.

This Weston Wear top is the Balcony Tee (now $48). It comes in the brown you see on me or ivory. It looks like a simple shirt but the portrait frame front has both sparkly accents and an intricate pattern of fabric beads plus what looks like wings. There’s a deeper scoop than normal that I found to hit low enough to give a hint but high enough to protect the goods. My true size medium was the right fit. It’s a cute shirt and I’m eager to find out the name.

I purchased the Decorating Committee Cardi a couple of weeks ago. I saw it in the store window and it looked so pretty. Then my husband really advoacted for me to get it since the color is so pretty and a far cry from my usual black/funeral attire. I'm planning to wear it this week. My only concern with it is that the sequins might come off and there were no extra ones given. One definitely could not wear a shoulder strap purse with this cardigan for fear of loosening them up.

Sarah – I usually get hints the night before, and I didn't get anything last night. Hopefully tomorrow for sale updates but I'm not sure yet.Jacquelyn – agreed about the delicate nature of the cardi. I'm so glad you got it though!

I am still laughing at your "silk worm" comment on the price of the Decorating Committee cardi…sometimes I say that for the prices they charge, the pieces should come with someone to help me button them/put them on! Thanks for making me laugh:)Great choices today, I think everything looked really flattering on you! Did you add anything to your cart or wishlist?

Hi Suzanne – My wishlist has about 175 items at the moment (hee). I did add the Web & Loom Cardigan and Decorating Committee Cardigan from this review set to it. I have 6 items in my cart right now…the Snowscape Tank, the AG Durini Stilt jeans, the Plaid Petal Skirt, the Dangling D'Anjou Earrings, the New Academia Skirt and the Pessinus Garden Necklace. And I'm not so patiently waiting for my replacement anthro card to arrive. How about you? Any items in your cart at the moment? What's on your wishlist?

Still hoping to find the Cascading Foliage dress in a 0…looking at the Night Blooming Dress, the For Flora skirt, and the To and Fro skirt (a little daring but looks fun!). Oh, and the Castle Spire dress is just gorgeous, but don't know if I will pull the trigger? Have you seen it in any NYC stores?

I've been pining for the Web and Loom cardigan myself (actually, the whole outfit – the model looks soooo cute in it!). Thanks for the review. I'm glad to know that it is worth full price. Once I get my next paycheck, it's going in the shopping bag 🙂

By the way, what are these "hints" that you get about the sales? Do you have a friend who works at Anthropologie or is there some secret mailing list to be the first to find out about sales? Just curious…

Lola – the tips come in both from friends of mine that work at Anthro and emails. No distribution list or anything like that. Because the reliability is mixed I don't usually share beforehand — not trying to be stingy with information, I'd just rather wait and confirm than share incorrect info. I do appreciate the tips that come in very much!!

Great reviews Roxy! I am in love with the Decorating Committee cardi — I had a review but my camera seems determined not to give me any of it's pictures this week! But suffice to say the review was mostly positive anyway 😉 Love love love.Did you see the Band of Baubles bracelet land on the site this morning? I swear Anthro keeps taunting me for buying the Juxtaposed Bracelet at it's ridiculous price by keeping on releasing reincarnations at much cheaper prices — this one's actually by Nicole Miller as well though!

It is strange in the details of the Decorating Committee Cardigan it lists the sweater as having 3/4 sleeves. The picture on the site and your review it clearly is long-sleeved, strange.

Nice post. Actually what I wanted from this outfit was the tights – the gold metallic ones. I eventually got them and I really like them – have worn them a lot – they do look a lot like in the photo, definitely gold metallic, but if you are fairly daring in your outfits like me, they add a sort of quirky touch. They're really nice quality too – with the molded heel and foot.

goldenmeans I have seen the bracelet in store and I felt EXACTLY the same! I just keep telling myself that it's not quite the same as the Juxtaposed Bracelet…Anon – hmm, I wonder if it's a copy error or if it's like the Wind Rippled Tee where there are two versions. Great catch.

Roxy, did you see the Pessinus Garden Necklace IRL? If so, what are your impressions about it? It's so darn cute in the photos…

  15. December 8, 2009 / 6:43 pm

Anon I have not seen the necklace yet. It's really bumming me out too, I think I might just take the plunge and order it. Elaine – ha, I love the excitement! I love it too.

The Decorating Committee cardigan is GORGEOUS. Jacquelyn makes a good point about not using a shoulder strap purse with it, though, and I only have shoulder bags. At that price I wouldn't want to have to buy a new purse too.
