Outfits: In relief

These new outfit sets are terrible. As in terrible for my wallet — I want everything! Once again Anthropologie takes items that I was meh on and puts them together in a way that immediately makes me want every single piece. You win again Anthro! When I am in bankruptcy court I’m calling you to the stand in my defense.

Got a super cropped cardigan like the Clinging Blossoms Cardigan ($88)? Show the model sitting down and problem solved. It’s great to see the McKay Tank ($78) on someone, even if it’s a model whose proportions are nowhere near mine (no offense Ms. Model). This is how I’d like my spring casual looks to go.

Also in this outfit:
Joe’s Raw Hem Kicker ($152)
Transom Wedges ($152)

Not sure about the cardigan choice here but I love the tank and the shoes. I would have the same dreamy far off look if I were wearing those pieces right now. The Cherished Trinkets Necklace ($38) in particular really grabs me! I love these inexpensive costume jewelry pieces that Anthropologie is coming out with.

Also in this outfit:
Swift Current Cardigan ($88)
Floating Pointelle Tank ($78)
Slouched & Tabbed Bermudas ($58)
Acrobatics Wedges ($148)

This look is great but it breaks my heart a bit. As I’d feared, I tried the Pilcro Crops ($88) and they did not fit over my calves. This won’t be a problem for most people as my calves are unusually large. It was still a bummer though. I love the combination of blue and yellow from the Field Game Cardigan ($118, review here) and the Oscillating Folds Blouse ($88, review here). Oh and Chie Mihara, you break my heart (and my piggy bank).

Also in this outfit:
Gentle Loop Necklace ($168)
Hoisted T-Straps ($380)

This outfit blows me away. I am big on creating a column shape down below with the flowy on top and I feel like this is exactly how that style should look. The Encoded Platforms ($218) look very elegant on the model which is great considering I wasn’t impressed by the product shot. It’s easy to lose myself in this shot.

Also in this outfit:
Winged Symmetry Blouse ($98)
Clove Hitch Tank ($38)
Above-The-Fray Skirt ($88)
Splendid Catch Necklace ($48)

I was already planning to wear yellow under my new Parted Petals Cardigan ($98, review here) so it’s great to see Anthropologie confirm the idea is solid. I’m surprised at how much I like the cargo capris in this look. It’s somewhere around spring business casual and I approve.

Also in this outfit:
On-The-Veranda Shell ($58)
Cuffed & Cinched Crops ($126)
Picnic Platforms ($418)

I was hoping you'd post on these! I think my wishlist just doubled in size. Still not completely sold on the Encoded Platforms (they just look sooo terrible in the product shot), but those Acrobatic Wedges are definitely my next shoe purchase.

that last outfit made my inspiration folder when YOU termed it 'spring buisness casual' and gave me ideas on how to do it- I wasn't impressed with this set of outfits, then you went and made me look again in a different light and now I do like them 😉

Do you know if the above the fray skirt, the belt comes out and you can wear your own? Thanks!

Kas – I agree wholeheartedly. Love your Blogger pic by the way!Ellabel – I agree on the platforms, I'd like to see them in real life before making the final call.Meli22 – hee, glad I could enable — I mean inspire — you. ;)sklee – I agree, and I think what I like most about this set is all the outfits are pretty laid back and easy. No 50 layers, just nice pieces with eye-pleasing mixtures of pattern and texture.Brewer Family – I haven't seen the skirt in person yet but I think the belt must come off. If not I bet a couple of quick snips would do the trick.

Hey.. I have read your blog for a while now, and LOVE it, but have never commented so far. I have to comment on the Field Game Cardigan. I am having family photos done, so I have been shopping on line. I am pretty sure that the red version of the Field Game Cardigan is also for sale at Nordstrom.com, for not 118$, but for the low price of 57.90$, thier regular price is 88$ on the same exact sweater. The only thing that is different on it is the color is slightly different, it's more of an orange, but we all know how Anthro's colors sometimes vary. Just thought I'd put this out there for anyone that wants to buy it. I will always be a loyal Anthro shopper, but it bothers me when Anthro does this.

I saw the Nordstrom version, I think their version is shorter and it has 4 buttons compared to the Anthro that has 6 buttons. It also has a deeper V-neck compared to Anthro.

i'm seriously starting to think about giving up anthropologie for lent…but i would seriously die of agony if ever my wishlist item went on sale. i have to agree with you on how fab the oscillating blouse yellow goes so well with the field game cardigan..though i'm still not convinced the cardigan is for me..material looks sorta urban outfitters cheap :/ but wow, that oscillating folds blouse is def. proving itself as a must have

Hazel – That's a great idea, giving up Anthropologie for Lent! I don't typically observe Lent (in the religious sense) but I have used it as an excuse to improve myself for 40 days (by giving up things like desserts, animal products, sugary beverages, TV…). Now I'm really tempted to steal your idea and give up Anthro for Lent. I think it would help me to put some of the "must have" items into perspective and realize that I don't *actually* need anything that Anthropologie sells.

i'm pretty sure the nordstrom version of the field game cardigan isn't by charlotte tarantola, but the version at bloomingdale's is, although the lace color is navy and has 7 buttons so it's longer. it's price matched at $118: http://www1.bloomingdales.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=458740&PseudoCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_resultsanother retailer also has the cardigan with creme lace at $118; it's also the 7 button version:http://www.pinksaloon.com/fashion/product.asp?dept_id=195&pf_id=SweatersCTNCharlotte_T_Nantucket_Cardi_Nav&ad_id=froogle&key_id=CharlotteTarantolaCardiganNantucketinNavyso for anyone that likes longer cardis, there is another option.

Roxy, did you do a review on Felted Lei Cardigan? What size fit you nicely? I did search your blog, but no review page came up! Thanks!

These are great outfits. I agree that the Parted Petals cardi is a definite keeper. It's like Field Flower knows all my weaknesses…

Ha! I like the idea of giving up Anthro for lent. I'm Jewish so it's a moot point! but I doubt I could if I tried.Roxy, I was wondering if you would be willing to do a post about Anthro's nautical-themed items. They have a whole nautical section right now and I think everything is so cute! I would love your opinion on the theme as a whole, your favorite pieces, and how you would pair them to look more "adorable seaside" without looking "pirate-themed costume party." Thanks!

Anon @ 6:24, hmmm, I did try it on, maybe I just never ran the review? Tell you what, I'll run it tomorrow. But in the meantime I tried on the medium and it was a close but good fit.

Anon @ 6:29, sure! Look for something on Thursday.

Funny Ladies Hazel and Lola that I am going to give up Anthro for Lent. Not my original idea, but someone suggested it to me and I liked the idea. I am thinking to myself, so what if something I reeeeeeaaaallly want on my wish list goes on sale? Figured there will be others and this should be an interesting test. Lola: the needs vs. wants will definitely rise to the surface and allow me to put things in perspective :-)I have the Field Game cardi and just wore it a couple of days ago with a tee the same color as the beige stripes and some jeans. I planned to wear it with the Free Flow tank and skinny jeans as well. The idea of it with the yellow Oscillating blouse is divine!

  19. February 17, 2010 / 12:46 am

No Lent for me but I'm also down with the idea. Writing an Anthropologie blog has increased my spend there a good 2 or 3-fold.

I'm with you all the way in the love of the lean and flowy especially in the second look. I don't/cant really do skirts though and tops like the one featured just leave me looking like a bohemian-peasant blast from the past when paired with jeans.

  21. February 17, 2010 / 12:26 pm

Oh Got Damn. That second outfit? *cries*I JUST CAN'T QUIT YOU, ANTHROPOLOGIE, EVEN THOUGH I AM TRYING. TRYING SO HARD.
