Reviews: Midnight Daisy Cardigan, Peeking Lace Blazer, Boundless Blazer

The secret password is: small.

It’s worth mentioning one more time: Field Flower by Wendi Reed’s sweaters are running small this year. Of course it didn’t help that I tried the irresistibly cute Midnight Daisy Cardigan ($148) over a bulky shirt. This cardigan is designed as a throw-over with its snap closures and open-knit design. It’s team bumblebee and I approve.

I grabbed my normal size medium and I’d say it was too tight across the chest. It closed but there was obvious pulling across the front. So I’d size up to a large to buy it. I like the idea of wearing this over a dress or maybe over shorts and a tank in warmer weather. Wishlisted for sale time.

…what looks perfectly proportioned
in the catalog…

…turns out to be short in real life. Sigh. This is Lil’s Boundless Blazer ($118) which, as it turns out, does indeed have bounds at the waist. I knew I would need at least a 10 in this but all the larger sizes are sold out at all 3 NYC Anthros at Soho and Rockefeller Center. Hmmmm, I wonder why that could be. I was chatting with one of the personal shoppers who noted that all of Anthropologie’s blazers are fitting poorly on women above B cups this year. Talk about disappointing. If Anthropologie is becoming one of those brands to fit against waifs I’m abandoning it. Done. I hope this is not the start of something terrible.

Since the 8 was the closest option I grabbed it for some fitting room shots. I found the blazer looked fine open but closed it looked ridiculous. My guess is even the 10 might be a bit tight over my 34Ds so I’d want a 12. This is one blazer I’d actually like to buy but I’m waiting for sale for sure.

One more blazer to be disappointed by. This is Tabitha’s Peeking Lace Blazer ($118). It looked really cute on the rack, what with its seersucker and lace. Like the Boundless Blazer I actually wanted to purchase this one. But once again the 8 was the highest size available on the rack and when I tried it on it had pulling under the button. A 10 would have been fine across the bust but something weird was happening with the shoulders. They weren’t right, like they were set too high. I just can’t get over how poor the fit has been on every single blazer I’ve tried on at Anthropologie. Epic fail.

Ohhh, Roxy, I noticed that in the last pic you seem to have on the Sunny Escape tank under the blazer — is there by any chance a review of that one coming up? If not, can you tell me how you like it? 😀

Oh yeah, and loving that last blazer with the lace. It may just work on my barely-B self!

Hi Katie, indeed it is the Sunny Escape Tank. They had it styled under the blazer at the store so I tried (unsuccessfully) to replicate the look. I love the tank! It runs big. I will have a full review in the next couple of days. 🙂

that is too bad about the blazers. I hope that they arent changing their sizing also. I also found the sweaters to be tiny this year, which is totally irksomeI am not the type that is fixxated on a size per se, but dont want to be sized out.

That's definitely irritating about the blazers. I won't even try (bigger than DD). A quick question on price adjustments: I bought a wrapped in Ruffles cardigan exactly two weeks ago today, and I hear it's dropped in price. (One of your lovely readers.) How does the price adjustment work? Does there have to the a lower-priced item in stock? Does it have to be at the store where I purchased the item?

Too bad about the blazers, but I LOVE the SE tank! So cute and cheerful.Kathleen, price adjustments are 14 days, so if you bought online, call CS. If you bought instore just go in with your receipt and you should be fine!

ali – I guess I am more fixated on size, but not because I'm attached to a number as much as consistency. If I didn't live near an Anthro it'd be a real pain in the ass to be a 6/M in most things but varying from a 4 to a 12 in other things. Kathleen – I've had varied results by phone. Some CS reps have no problem giving you the PA regardless of whether an item is in stock. Some however will only credit you if your item.In store they've always been great about giving me the PA. If you have any issues, ask to speak to the MOD (manager on-duty).

CheesyGoodness – agreed! The tank is oh so happy and spring-ready. 🙂

I have never had any luck with Anthro blazers and even wrote them a scathing note once about their wacky sizing. THe last blazer I ordered was an 8 … I am fairly small and can even wear down to a 4 sometimes … and this blazer that I received would have had to have been at least a 14 to even BEGIN to fit me. Makes me very angry. I love ANthro but their sizing inconsistencies and their quality inconsistencies drive me mad.

That's so sad about blazer fits these days. Though I do think you look quite fetching in the Boundless Blazer!!I'm excited for the Leifsdottir show today? Are you by any chance going again this year? I so enjoyed your first hand report last fashion week 🙂

  12. February 18, 2010 / 4:12 pm

Sandy – I agree the look is right. (The fit not so much.)Goldenmeans – sadly, no. No Leifsdottir invite for me this time around. I did catch a few shows yesterday though, one at the tent and two at the Promenade.

I tried on the Boundless blazer and it was a hot mess, and I'm only a Small B cup. The Peeking Lace blazer is on my wishlist!!! Trying to wait it out another two weeks. I had to size up to an 8 here and I usually wear a 4 on top.

  14. February 18, 2010 / 5:19 pm

Oh, boo! Their mistake. Seeing any shows is still exciting though! 🙂 Which ones did you get a chance to watch yesterday?

Thanks for the review on the Midnight Daisy jacket! It ran a bit small for me also, but it suited my petite frame well. I really love it–and yellow is a perfect color for spring!

Anonymous @ 10:54 – that is insane sizing inconsistency! Anthro has usually been pretty good but lately I've noticed more variation between pieces.KristinH – interesting, good to know it's not just me reaching for a different size.goldenmeans – I stood in the back of the Michael Kors show, and saw Nanette Lepore and Anna Sui. It was heaven!! No pics though…strongly frowned upon.Shelly – I can't wait to be a Midnight Daisy owner too! You're so right, it's perfect for spring.

Roxy I love your sense of humor. If this is worth anything – The cardigan looks nice and would complement your dark hair. I also liked the second blazer on you – especially when open.

If it's any consolation, I'm a small A cup and built pretty square (i.e. not at all curvy), and I also find blazers to be one of the hardest things to fit – in any store, not just Anthro. They're almost never quite right, and since they always cost a fortune, I usually end up walking away.

i'm looking forward to the sunny escape review, too! i had it on my wishlist, but was disappointed with the material when i saw it in the store, so i didn't try it on. i'm not surprised you're having a fit problem with the blazers – i have pretty small boobs, post-kids and the XS i tried on tonight (in the natty blazer, i think) pulled across even my boobs. i could size up, but i shouldn't have had to.

BTW, I wanted to give the report on the price adjustment. It would've worked great, except I was mistaken about the second markdown — thanks for the help.Oh, don't get me started on Anthro inconsistencies in sizing. I have Anthro items in Small, Medium and Large. I'm usually an 8, sometimes a 10 — but sometimes I'm sized out.At the same time, I know some of it is me — I don't have fit model proportions, and so much will depend on cut. Unlike Roxy, I don't have a small way. I do have a small butt and narrow shoulders (and I'm bigger than DD).

Uh, waist — not way, of course. 🙂
