Guest post: Reviews by Victoria

Note: Just a quick item before we begin — the new corduroy Reed Dress is now online, is called the Refined Cord Shirtdress ($128) and comes in blue; red was shown earlier today but has since been pulled.

With no sale to keep us busy this morning, what’s an Anthro fan to do? Catch up on reviews! Please welcome Victoria who has several reviews for us to pore over today. Interested in writing a guest post? Email me or click the “contact” link near the top of the blog. On to the reviews…

Hi everyone! As baseline: I’m 5’10, 157lbs. I wear a size small-medium (mostly medium) or size 6-10 on tops. Bottoms, I wear a 10.

First up, the Lustrous Lavaliere Top ($88). I have this on my wish list ever since Roxy reviewed it. Looking at the picture now, I think it’s flattering. I love the color and the detail of the neckline. However, I wasn’t quite thrilled on the elastic band underneath my chest. I kept pulling at it, being distracted by how it fitted. Didn’t buy, but I left it on my wish list – possible splurge once it goes on sale.

Next: Forgotten Pond Tank ($98), size 8

I looked forward to trying this on, I loved the colors (as seen on the website) and the neckline. Roxy also tried this top on. I imagined pairing this with my Ann Taylor Loft pleated tulip black skirt for a causal wedding. Unfortunately, I hated the fit. I should have tried on a size 10 (or above) but I didn’t like how the size 8 made my chest look huge and I couldn’t imagine a larger size being more flattering. Very disappointing…

Muted Lavender Top ($58), medium

Sorry for the blurry pic! I have the Curated Tee in Red (medium) and love it. Purple is also my favorite color so I naturally thought that I would fall in love with this top. Unfortunately, I wasn’t wowed by the design and therefore, won’t pay full price. However, I might purchase once it goes on sale. You can read Roxy’s review here.

Popham Beach Top (now $30), size medium

Now that I see there’s a red one still available, I might have to buy that too! I love this top. I tried it on spur-of-the-moment and love the fit. It’s very flattering to the figure, emphasizing my hourglass shape. Bought it! The only disappointment is the sheerness. You definitely have to wear a cami underneath, but as Roxy mentions in her reviews, this seems to be the current trend in Anthro shirts. Hopefully the red isn’t as sheer.

Now onto the dresses. As I mentioned I was in the market for something to wear to a wedding (for this upcoming Sat).

Cordial Embrace Dress ($148), medium

To be honest, I didn’t even notice the strip/piece of cloth that runs down the middle of the dress from below the chest, down. I thought the fabric was itchy, and for the price, of much cheaper quality than I expected. Not figure flattering (even with a belt!). Next!

Pittore Dress ($168), size 10

I wanted to love the Pittore Dress. The colors are beautiful, the black empire-like strip is flattering…Unfortunately the size 10 (as seen here) was a no go. The bottom felt too tight across my thighs (I could barely walk!). I’d have to size up but I didn’t like the color pattern on, so I passed. Roxy tried on this dress and had similar feelings.

Ruffled Plaid Dress, size 10

Either I’ve gained weight or these two dresses run small, but I had the same problems (literally!) with the Ruffled Plaid as I did with the Pittore dress – not figure flattering (for my hourglass/pear shaped body) and the fabric was itchy. I also didn’t like the cap sleeves on the dress.

I needed a break from all the disappointments so I tried on the Mighty Adornment Tee (now $40), size medium. Roxy had reviewed this top as well when it first came out.

Love the color and the fit. Flattering with a beautiful jeweled center. Very versatile, I could wear it with jeans or pair it with black or khaki bottoms for work. I was ambivalent about it, so I didn’t buy it, but when I got home and looked at the pictures on my computer, I loved how flattering the color was to my skin tone. Since I could still get free shipping, I bought it!

Vestiges Dress, size 10

First off, I love the look of dresses that have a separates-feel to them. Unfortunately, I think my body type demands actual separates…I love the colors on the top, and the skirt was flattering. I loved the placement of pockets (pockets are my thing – my J Crew wedding dress had them!) I sent a friend a text and asked the SA for their thoughts. Both gave it a “yay” – however, I wasn’t completely comfortable with the fit. With my broad shoulders, bigger bust (38C), long legs but short torso, I felt as though it made me look bigger in the chest and more boxy all around.

I tried on the Cascading Bow Dress ($118), size 10 per the advice of a SA. I normally don’t try on this style but I am SO glad that I tried it on! I fell in LOVE with it, I felt very Joan (from Mad Men). The dress itself was so comfortable, the cut (and placement of the bows), very flattering – and I loved the red, it really pops out. Plus, it has pockets! I bought it and am so excited to wear it next Sat! (I probably will sell it on the trade market next week since I don’t wear dresses very often). Roxy had previously tried this dress on as well.
