Hooray for Eva Franco! This brand has always wowed me with its dresses. Continuing that tradition is the Mullany Dress ($258), a frock conceived of polka dot perfection. Anthropologie has had several cute polka dot frocks this year but this one is my favorite. I love the higher neckline — it works wonderfully with the big or long statement necklaces I’ve been into recently.

The skirt on this dress is truly spectacular. Full without being too voluminous with pleats crisply tucked. There’s tailored seams at the side of the bust to help the top fit. And the belt? Great! Normally these belts don’t have enough holes for my tiny waist but this dress did (barely). It’s the details that count and this dress satisfies. My usual size 6 was a bit loose on top but I would not size down. If you’re less busty you should go one size below your usual size. The full price is tough to swallow but I wonder if this dress will last til sale. We’ll see. Wishlisted!

Fleur Wood’s Picnic in the Park Dress ($128) was a last-minute grab on the way to the fitting room. It was about 95 degrees outside and this dress looked like instant relief from the heat. It has an abstract floral print and two sweetheart ruffles. There’s also a smocked waist to keep this from being a shapeless shift.

My usual size 6 fit fine, which was a surprise! Normally I have to size up one, even two sizes for Lil’s dresses. I love that the straps are adjustable via a bra-style pull in the back. The dress looks a little naked without a belt but is otherwise simply gorgeous. I know it’s silk but the price seems a little much. I was thinking it would be $78. I’m torn though; I want to wear this now and it probably won’t hit sale for a couple of months. Do I overspend on it because I love it and could get the cost per wear down to a reasonable amount? Or do I wait and resign myself to holding onto it to wear next summer instead? I can’t decide. What do you think?

Some eye candy brought the Susannah Dress ($128) to my attention. How could I have missed this tiered and ruffled delight? The fawn color is muted but pretty. This dress would be great for a client meeting at work…

…except for one thing. The skirt. It’s lined but still sheer! Fixable with a slip I know but what a pain in the butt. Way to cheap out on the lining, Anthro. I tried on a size 8 which is my usual size for Moulinette Soeurs. Waiting for sale on this one.

Another work-friendly option is Deletta’s Turbine Dress ($118). This is definitely a fall dress — much too heavy in both color and material for summer. It has a prominent twist right at the meeting point of the gentle v-neckline. It has a defined waistband and pockets. The length of the skirt is verging on too long.

My usual size small was swallowing me up a bit. I don’t think an xs would work though. This dress is interesting. I plan on revisiting it in September…perhaps on sale?

The reviews have not been kind to Dolan’s Echoing Dress ($148) but I couldn’t resist giving it a shot. It’s made of comfy jersey! It has little tiers sticking out the bottom! It has twisty stuff! I noticed that the twist on the shoulder can be moved around. I played around with it a bit before settling on its intended position on the shoulder.

I tried on the small. It fit comfortably but I’m not sure it looked great. I think if both shoulders were twisted or if the one untwisted one was less of a capsleeve and more sleeveless-style I would be more into it. I also have to mention that the bottom tiers were both wrinkled. Sadly I think the reviews were right. This one is a pass.

Had I known the Cascading Bow Dress ($118) was a sheath I probably would have just skipped it. But the red and the bows and the pockets (!!) were calling to me.

I reached for an 8, the size I usually take in Moulinette Soeurs. The top was huge, with plenty of extra room. But the bottom was far too tight around mah hips. And so once again it’s confirmed that I have an hourglass to pear figure, thankyouverymuch OKI’mtakingthisoffrightnow.
