Playing the Sale guessing game

Oh the web Anthro weaves! Reportedly there’s another big markdown week due to happen in June, the question is only whether it’s coming this week or next. Kim from Anthroholic will be scoping out the scene in-store. I have some pennies set aside for whenever this markdown happens, though I have to admit I hope it’s next week over this one simply for the fact that as you are reading this I’m on the beach somewhere in Mexico. Greedy and selfish, I know. My more selfless side hopes to see plenty of markdowns on behalf of the community! My best guesses below — what are yours?

This post is no guarantee that any of these items will actually be on sale come tomorrow. What are you hoping to see? What do you think will/won’t go on sale?

Be sure to come back at the usual time — there will be a sale post in the morning!

Hmmmm…I feel like it's time for the Botanical Stroll to go on sale. If only because I feel I am about to cave on full price.

I think the Blushing Bouquet and the Percussive Cardis have a great shot. There is maybe a little hope for the Herb Field Roaming Frills, and the Wind and Whirl cardis, too.I'd also love to see the Beda go on sale; I hope I didn't completely miss out on the green! But I'm thinking that one won't hit sale for a couple more weeks. Botanical Stroll dress is due for a markdown, I think. Ditto the Rushing Ruffles, Speckled Ink, Ipanema, Clearly Constructed, Roped In, and Knotted Poppies Dresses. In fact, I think a lot of dresses are about due for a big cut. Finally, my money is on the Picture Frame Blouse and Sunday Supper shirt getting a cut as well.

Anon, My store started doing inventory last week and yet they still marked things down last Tuesday. Is it different for every store? I did hear one of the SAs talking about finding a lot of old stuff lurking in the back that they then took out to the sales racks, which made me think that they're holding the big sales and doing inventory simultaneously. My guess was that that's why we were getting consecutive weeks of small markdowns rather than every other week of big ones. But I actually hope there aren't big markdowns until next week. That's when I'll be a little more flush 🙂

@Lauren S: I'm not sure how other locations do inventory, but I can see how bringing old items from the backroom to the sale room would be wise–if they sell, that's fewer to count!@Anon at 5:43: Inventory is when every single thing in the store is counted, including the unusual found objects and items in the backroom.I don't know if there's a big sale next week–I hope so too!Anonymous at 5:09 pm

I gave in and purchased the Rising Battenberg Dress last week (shipped from a store in Seattle), so hoping that I might be able to get a price adjustment. Not counting on it though since it sold out online. Other than that, I'll probably be sitting a sale this week out–but here's hoping for next week!

  29. June 15, 2010 / 12:37 am

I am just hoping for second cuts this week.

A second cut is when items that are already on sale get marked down again (a second sale on an item).

Ahh, Roxy, thank you for doing these posts every week! You're amazing! I might go to NY with my mom this summer for a little girls get-away, and I'm crossing my fingers I see you at an anthro! hahaFor everyone hunting for the aniseed skirt, I saw this post on a look for less! Enjoy ladies, I'm hoping you all get what you wish for!

  46. June 15, 2010 / 3:12 am

Robin Yes a couple friends from law school and I are going for the grand opening. It is going to be swamped, and the actors from the movies are supposed to be there as well. I cannot wait. Can someone tell me the set schedule for second cuts, do those go on the wesbite wednesday night or tuesday night? I have been a bit confused after the holiday weekend!!

  47. June 15, 2010 / 3:55 am

Hi ladies,I didn't go to Anthro tonight to scope out the sale, because if you read my blog, you know my dog had a horrible accident and I don't have time, however, I called the manager I know at my store and she told me no markdowns tomorrow because of inventory, which all stores are doing here tomorrow.

  48. June 15, 2010 / 4:01 am

Phew…I know this is gonna give me bad sale karma but my wallet could not take another sale.

  49. June 15, 2010 / 4:40 am

I too am hoping that the big sale isn't for a week or two from now due to my smoking wallet…the siren song of the iPhone pre-order is calling me this evening. I think if stores are doing inventory this week, there's a good chance it'll be next week. Crossing fingers.Sarah C – bittersweet about the Caballo Falls dress! I own the original blue, but that navy looks mighty pretty. I kind of wish they released colors at the same time, b/c then we could choose the best shade for our complexions. It's such a pretty dress though – sold out really quickly in my area – so at least ladies who missed out on it can nab new color now.

  50. June 15, 2010 / 7:16 am

Sadly, no sale tonight :(Goodnight everyone!

  51. June 15, 2010 / 7:35 am

Stepha and Jaden,I caved and bought the Aniseed Skirt 12 days ago afraid it would sell out and thinking it would go on sale this week and I could get PA. I should know better. Trying to time Anthro sales is like trying to time the stock market.

  52. June 15, 2010 / 5:38 pm

There's a Monochromatic Corset Dress size 0 showing on popup on page 37 in the September 09 catalog. $49.95. But you can take it in to stores for a PA of $9.95. Someone jump on this! Great dress!!!!

  53. TM
    June 15, 2010 / 5:46 pm

Hey, I have another newbie question…what is a popup (i'm guessing it's a item that's back in stock)and how do you go about finding these?

  54. June 15, 2010 / 6:41 pm

I just bought a couple of popbacks — the herringbone wrap coat (aug 09) and the quarry lake dress (2008) from some popbacks. how do you know if it's marked down further in stores? this is my first time… is it a common practice to buy popbacks and see if you can get a further reduction? how do you usually go about it?thanks!~mariansub.

  55. June 15, 2010 / 6:44 pm

I know what a popback is and sometimes they show up on my wishlist, but how else do you find them? When someone posts that there's a popback I search for it or type in the number and it never shows up. The only time I can access a popback is if someone posted a link.

  56. June 15, 2010 / 6:51 pm

Britney B.:Is there anyone to check to see if something has been marked down additionally in stores verse the final price online? Or do you just buy and test it out based on luck?

  57. June 15, 2010 / 7:25 pm

Hi All-I call the customer service # online and ask them how much an item is in stores. Then they tell me what that price is (in this case – $9.95) then I ask if it is possible to get the item at that price. If there are at least 3 of that item at one store, they will give it to you. In this case, there wasn't, so I bought it online last week and took it into the store for a PA. You can always call CS to ask them how much something is in stores, then take it to a store within the 2 week time period and get a PA.

  58. June 15, 2010 / 7:27 pm

As for the popback question, popback means that an older item has popped back onto an old catalog. You may access the old catalogs through this blog: http://anthropologieaddict.blogspot.com/2009/10/f…. Just scroll through the pages and click on items, it the item is available, you will see the price and available size.

  59. June 15, 2010 / 8:18 pm

stores don't ever give you a hard time about this, do they?thanks for the tips!

  60. June 15, 2010 / 8:24 pm

Brittany B.:Thanks so much for the tip … definitely going to check out somethings that have reappeared in my wish list, but aren't quite the price I'd like to pay for them. Thanks.

  61. June 15, 2010 / 8:28 pm

Ahh, I always miss it!! Congrats to whoever bought it. I want that dress bad!

  62. June 16, 2010 / 3:28 am

Thanks to Brittany B, I was inspired to have a look-see through my wish list. On-The-Fold dress finally popped back in my size, and after calling CS to find out the in-store price ($49.95), I decided to buy it. I really hope I don't have any trouble getting a PA.And…decided to bite the bullet on the Aniseed skirt :x. I'm hoping for a PA on it next week, but, I've been watching/wanting it for long enough now that I'm willing to eat the full cost. OH ANISEED SKIRT, I HAVE FINALLY FALLEN TO YOUR WICKED, WICKED WAYS!Now please go on sale within 14 days, for Pete's flippin' sake.

  63. June 16, 2010 / 1:11 pm

Lauren – Glad you got the On-The-Fold Dress and the Aniseed Skirt!!! So jealous, I'm still waiting on that dang skirt. I don't think you should have any problems getting a PA. Just take it to your store along with the packing slip, there shouldn't be a problem. Good luck!

  64. June 16, 2010 / 3:21 pm

i am returning a quarry lake dress (2008) size 12 to the Palo Alto Store tonight — about 5.30 pacific time. (cut too small for me…) style #833128http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=833128&navAction=jump&navCount=77

  73. June 18, 2010 / 12:41 am

Marcela – the fashion I saw was very casual by day, 5" shorts and tank tops everywhere. Some of the ladies in my hotel wore lovely maxi dresses too, I saw this one I want so badly. I'll have to find a link to something similar. The stores around me were very touristy so the fashion was…not impressive. However there was one store on calle corazon that I can't remember the name of, but it had great stuff. Very boutique-y. I also spotted a girl in a Clustered Camellia Tee. It took a lot of willpower not to run up to her like a maniac and see if she was as much of an Anthro lover as me. 😉

  74. June 18, 2010 / 3:47 am

So is there any news of any chance of a sale tomorrow?

  75. June 18, 2010 / 3:48 am
