Reviews: The White Album

The clothing landing page on Anthropologie’s site currently features a toast to neutrals. I guess that imagery stuck in my head because during my store visits I was drawn to white and ivory bases. Or it could have been the heat wave we had last week. I was breaking out the summer materials way early.

We Love Vera (I do!) but she does not seem to love me much. I am in love with the vibrant prints but the brand seems to be cut for women with smaller chests and ruler shapes. As I have neither it’s been an exercise in frustration every time I try something on. Then again, what am I if not stubborn? And so I tried the Banderole Tank ($98) hoping for a good fit.

The lace trim peeping out the top of the tank is my layering cami. The tank is made of beautiful, slippery silk with a basket weave back and a lovely x-strap. The regatta print flags are so beautiful. I tried on the 8 which was a fine fit everywhere except over the chest. I’m optimistic that a 10 would work for me everywhere. Right now I’m in “would this work for Mexico” mode in which I convince myself that everything would look great on me in Mexico! (A magical land it must be.) I think with a pair of navy shorts we have a winner here.

One other thing to note — Anthropologie is a bunch of liars! The product description says side zip but there was no zipper to be found on this top. It was pullover style. Despite these lies I am in love. Wishlisted.

I’m still smarting from the Sprinkled Chiffon Top not working on me. In spite of my bitterness I was tempted enough to try on Saivana’s Illuminated Way Blouse ($128). I’m glad I did — the fit was much better this time around.

The top is — as you can see — quite sheer. There are small dots of fabric molded into beads following the v-neck with a thin line of sparkly silver beading between. The shape is quite flowy and divine. I tried on a medium which fit nicely. I could have easily gone down to a small for less flowiness.

The v is pretty deep so you’ll want a layering cami underneath. I like the sleeve length on this top and the length is good. My fear is the material itself. It’s fragile and the top I tried on already had a pull in it. So handle this one with care. I’ve placed it on my wishlist for sale time reconsideration.

I have noticed Anthropologie has this thing for releasing tanks in white and orange. Such is the case with C. Keer’s Folded Wings Tank ($68). (It also comes in a moss colorway.) When I tried this top in-store I liked it enough to buy it immediately but now that I’ve seen the product shot it’s going right back! I am enthralled with how the top looks in the product shot — some tapering below the bust to create a sleek feminine shape.

Compare that to me in the medium. I have the shape the dress form shows! But this top does not hug it correctly. Could be that the medium is simply too small. Odd because I have been a small in C. Keer’s tops so far this spring. But I’ll go for whatever size looks best. Aside from the fit not being perfect I really like this top. The pleated design is just gorgeous. I love the thicker straps and while I find the wood toggles extraneous they’re harmless. I see this top getting a lot of use. Recommended even if it ends up not working out for me.

Last spring Anthropologie featured several tops that had fancy racerbacks. This year that style is back and I couldn’t be happier! At Soho I only saw Edme & Esyllte’s Winding Indus Tank ($58) in white and orange so I grabbed the white. Of course once I get home I find out it comes in lime too — d’oh!

I ended up sizing up to an 8 in this one to fit over my hips. This gauzy top is sheer (sigh) but lovely. I adore the triple tier at the bottom even though it does draw attention to my thighs of thunder. You could belt this top easily though I’d probably let it flow free over a pair of bermudas or an a-line skirt. I couldn’t resist this top! I bought it. I actually came home with almost everything I reviewed in this set, using up most of my April budget already.

Velvet’s Pearly Glow Tank ($68) has a diagonal doppleganger in Deletta’s Flowing Tiers Tank ($68, review here). While the latter didn’t impress me this top caught my fancy immediately. With the darling bow and lightness it strikes me as a Kim top but turns out it’s also a roxy top!

These photos above are a medium. Yes, there is a bow across my chest — consider it a gift. And yes I own several tiered tops already. But this one is so adorable and I just loved it. Soft, crisp white with a pretty shiny bow. Let the google-y eyes ensure. And though it’s silly, I think the thing I enjoy most about shocking white tops is that they make even someone as fair as me look tan. That’s an achievement!

I ended up buying this top in a large for additional length. This top will be a versatile one for me — working under a cardigan (or blazer if you’re so inclined), or maybe a button-down. And when the heat calls for it this tank will work fine by itself.

Darn you Anthropologie. You are really outdoing yourselves with this spring line!!

Wow, great round of tops on you Roxy! You are so right – the Pearly Glow Tank is a "Kim" top, but it is lovely on you!!! Thanks for the shout out 🙂

I'm so happy the Illuminated Way Blouse works out! I loved the other version, but fit was terrible. The Pearly Glow tank also looks wonderful on you!

I'm loving the Pearly Glow Tank on you! Fingers crossed that it will be in the London stores tomorrow – mind you, if our review lots last week were anything to go by, I might be in luck!I love the print on the Banderole Tank but I think it's just too skimpy for those of us who have bigger boobs – it'll probably look obscene on me! Similar issue with the Folded Wings Tanks, I think, I don't think I'm comfortable having that much detailing over my boobs!

Roxy-I really like the Winding Indus Tank! Might need one of those myself…also I thought I'd mention that I was at my local Anthropologie this weekend and discovered a pink version of the Through the Clouds tank…which I loved! I've been trying this tank almost each time i've been to Anthro and finally realized why I haven't bought it yet…all the previous incarnations had little blossoms placed EXACTLY where your nipples are! I thought it looked weird so I kept passing…so guess what? pink version…no unfortunate blossom placement! Just some pretty embroidered leaves…and I've noticed today on the new online pic the design is changed on all of these tops! yay! I might finally throw down an insane $68 on a cotton tank top…lol.

Roxy, I received the pearly glow tank in the mail this weekend. the first ruffle cuts across my chest in a weird way.. is it like this on you? I still think I'll keep the top though and hope nobody notices.

kinda off-topic, but what brand of jeans are you wearing…they are such a flattering fit…i too have cruves, and can't seem to find the right fit/rise combo…pearly glow, looks fab…I wish it came in other colors too, the bow is darling!

Sharon – very exciting! I'm eager to see the pink version now…anon @ 4:36 – it does run across my chest but I don't find it bothersome. Sizing up helped a bit too.marie – they are Lucky Sweet N Lows, but they're older ones. The cut doesn't really work on me anymore. These are from 2006.

banderole tank looks quite low-cut even with your cami underneath it, i can't understand why they would cut it so low. why, anthro, why?

I purchased the Winding Indus Tank in the orange but returned it after I got home and tried it on for a few minutes. It would creep up on my hips and sit there and bunch up all funny. Very sad!!! I love the Pearly Glow tank. It's on my list for purchase ASAP! So cute!

love the pearly glow and the bandarole tank 🙂 the pearly glow's tiers are perfect! not really loving the folded wings tank, though? maybe under a cardigan it wouldn't be as obvious, but seems very um… chest-oriented 😛
