Outfits: New glory

Anthropologie unveiled a new outfits set yesterday morning that’s a “modern nod to the reds, whites and blues.” I am a big fan of all things patriotic so the color choices made me smile. I picked a few looks to showcase.

Goldenmeans and I both fixated on the same look. (Great minds think alike, etc.) I only have love for the Two-Wheeler Shirtdress ($128). The bikes all over it — swoon! The shirtdress shape is so classic. I’m happy to see Anthro accessorizing with the somewhat hugemongous Beach Bounty Necklace ($58). I noticed after memorizing flipping through the March catalogue once or twice that almost none of the looks were accessorized. As a costume jewelry lover it was a bummer, so it’s nice to see the outfits fully formed here. Anthro polished off the look with the Diamond-Stitch Skimmers ($118). Red shoes are such a great pop, and hey look! I did something similar in an earlier review with the Fifth Form Shift. Ahead of the curve? Yep.

As anti-blazer as I am, I have to admit I am eagerly waiting for the Professoressa Jacket (now $80, review here) to get a second cut. I’ve fallen in love with it after all. So it’s nice to see a similarly tweedy option dressed up here. The look is founded upon the Polka-Peppered Dress ($148). A dress too adorable for words! Though strapless by design there are removable straps that come with it. This infuses me with hope. Anthro put Ett Twa’s Vala Jacket ($98) over the dress, and upon further inspection the jacket isn’t really tweedy. It’s a ditsy floral! With a bow in the back! Finishing off the look are the Tangerine Rind Clogs ($395). They look cool but horribly uncomfortable. I eagerly await a review or the chance to try them on.

To pantsland we go for a look that’s 3/4 preppy and 1/4 flowy flowers. I love the slightly cropped look of the J Brand 7/8 Mid Rise ($158) over the Classic Lace-Ups ($35) which are priced amusingly low for Anthropologie. Making up for that price break is the Blue Bird Blouse ($128). The blouse was obviously pinned for this shot — boo. A splash of color (though not red, white or blue) enters courtesy of the Spilling Ruffles Cardigan ($98). Anthro adorned the ruffled cardi with two variations of the From A Seed Clip ($18). They had me until the floral clips.

I love the mixed patterns of this look! My eyes were immediately drawn to the beautiful Alpine Dream Skirt ($98). The tiered, embossed stunner is cool in chambray. Anthropologie goes less abstract and more directly nautical via the Sailing Stripes Blouse ($68). Like an old globe the Cartography Cardigan ($98) encircles the look and the Sweet-Wrap Sandals ($178) wrap things up. The shapes in this look are giving me some fabulous ideas.

This is another look I adore. What is up with the model’s sourpuss face??!? Were I in this outfit I’d be smiling up a storm. The Button Bin Cardigan ($98) is cute as a button! And you’re wearing it over the Clearly Constructed Dress ($138) that is clearly cute! I’m a little less enthralled with the Shadowrose Necklace ($80) but again I like that there’s a necklace to draw inspiration from. This awfully cute look is capped with the Veracruz Flats ($78) which have a questionable color palette but undeniably look ready for spring. This is not my favorite outfit set but it gives me some great ideas. For a different kind of national pride I’ll be wearing green for St. Patrick’s Day today! How about you?

I'm in love with that purply-fuschia in the Spilling Ruffles Cardi, what a gorgeous piece.I tend to like the not overly frilly pieces from Anthro so I am really liking these outfit sets.It like of urks me that the model looks like she hasn't had a good meal in months though, I want to hand her a burger and shake!

i love those red flats. They're by All Black. I found the black pair on endless.com for less, but haven't found the red pair anywhere yet.

i love the two wheeler dress, but the color in the model shot is much more vibrant than the product shot. i'm wondering what the color is like IRL.

ack! crazy about the two-wheeler dress! 🙂

I've been making grabby hands (hard) at the Spilling Ruffles cardigan, but ugh. I dunno. I think I need to try it on and see it in person or, you know, have a bloggy friend try it on for me. ;)*coughs*HINT*coughs*:P

That two wheeler dress will be mine. Oh yes it will. Besides, I feel like I've waited so long for the reed shirtdress to go on sale that I'm losing interest. I mean, every time I see it, it looks like an iron's worst nightmare. So, I'm sorry, reed shirdress, but you have been replaced.

Oh man, I am IN LOVE with the Two-Wheeler shirtdress. Bicycle print on a dress? Sign me up. NEED.

I am dying over the Two-Wheeler shirtdress! So perfect! I am also loving the Catography Cardigan. If you see the Two-Wheeler shirtdress I would love a review, I think it would be perfect on you Roxy.

Morning ladies! Lisa – yeah, the models. Sigh. I was excited to see that they used a beautiful model for a recent accessories set. I'll have to make a post about that stuff as well.Naomi's mom – great tip! I hope the red version shows up on endless too.Tiny Cricket – agreed, the model shot is certainly more saturated. But if it's anything like the Reed Shirtdress I'm sure the color will still be beautiful in real life.erinaomi – agreed! Must-have in my book. Chloe – *salutes* on it!Amy JoGo – I feel the same, isn't it odd? From one month needing the Reed Shirtdress to discarding it for bicycles. Impulsive? Yep.Carly – if only it came with a bicycle like that. I'd ride it through Central Park. Not sure where I'd store it though…Bronzi – thanks for letting us know! Yesterday's sale post comments are still going strong so feel free to head over there as well.Joy – I vote late March only because you'll get free shipping. Kudos to your willpower. 🙂

I like pretty much everything about these outfits, but the model? Not so much. Normally I think Anthro does a pretty good job of picking models who look fairly normal, but this gal just looks strung out to me. And way too thin. Boo.

Oh I the two wheeler dress IS pretty cute. I already want to get the wright dress, so if I were this also, I wonder if people would start to think I have some obsession with transportation or something. The quirky prints are had to resist though 🙂

Oh, had to comment on your wearing green for St Patty's Day. I pulled out my Landing Field skirt today and wore it to work. My students all think I have some kind of obsession with airplanes now because I wore my Wright dress to work last week, I've recently worn the Country Manor top, and now I'm sporting the airplanes on the Landing Field skirt. I'm with you, Maureen – I'm afraid if I bought the Two-Wheeler dress my students would all think I was nuts 🙂

I really, really love the first look. I have seen the red flats at my local Anthro and am very tempted to get them, as I do not really have many flats in my shoe wardrobe and red is my color. In honor of today, I am wearing green Gathered Together Dress, belted with brown Snakebite, topped with ivory Moth cardigan, and tall brown boots.

  16. March 17, 2010 / 3:42 pm

what do you think of the mermaid lore cardigan? i'm in love with it!

  17. March 17, 2010 / 3:45 pm

Personally, I don't think one can have too many shirtdresses. Especially after falling hard for the Reed in green, and now this bicycle one! I definitely have a shopping problem 🙁

I caved yesterday and bought the Two-Wheller Dress and Button Bin Cardi. I could not resist. The prints remindedme of Anthro of yore—circa 2005-7, which is the time period I like best. I am always looking on ebay for items from this period!

  19. March 17, 2010 / 4:04 pm

Ha! I completely forgot that it's St. Patrick's Day (I'm in Peru right now) but completely coincidentally, I'm wearing a pastel green Anthro dress from 2006. Btw, I think that the new outfits were added to the website on Monday night. I noticed them when I was waiting for the sale updates… I wonder if all new Anthro items are added to the website around 3 AM EST.

Does anyone know how Porridge dresses usually run size-wise? I am usually a 2 in dresses, but take a 4 in blouses due to my bust. I am thinking about sizing up for the shirtdress. Thanks!

I put the two wheeler dress in my shopping bag a few days ago! Love it! It reminds me of all the fun designs that Odille used to do on their skirts! Anthro-bring back those quirky skirts!

  22. March 17, 2010 / 6:51 pm

They also saturated the colors so the blue looks more electric, and the model looks scary pale. And I live in the Pacific Northwest, where I am used to pale! I do wish Anthro would move to showing us a little more variety in body type.

OT, I do not know where to post this. The needle point pillows # 983116 and #983117, right tree and left tree on Oct 09 p.22 catalog have a second cut to $ 19.95.I called CS last night to look for those pillows. She was able to charge and send them from a store that has the pillows available without me calling from stores to stores to search. I gave her my email, my credit card # and address, and voila, Anthro sent me an email to confirm that they found my items and will send to me.I love the new system. It saves me time and headaches from calling around and waiting on hold.Cindy

hm..the two-wheeler shirtdress is on backorder 3/17/2010. does that mean it's supposed to be available today? is it already out in stores?

I really love the outfit with Polka-Peppered Dress and the Jacket. I caved on the Professora Jacket although I'm not sure how it will fit considering I had to size up because my size was sold out, if not I will have to return it. Btw how do you get a birthday discount, my birthday is next month :DDD. I called CS and they said I should received it although she doesn't have a way to know 🙁

that first look is amazing. i can't wait to get my hands on the two wheeler dress. my family and friends are going to think i have a transportation osession, too. 🙂

  28. March 17, 2010 / 10:17 pm

my local anthro had the Vala Jacket before it showed up on the website and it is REALLY adorable! i loved the floral print and the cute black bow in the back. unfortunately, i have a short torso and blazers (esp. shorter ones) just look terrible on me. plus i found the that bottom flares out a lot more than in the picture. definitely worth trying on!

  29. March 17, 2010 / 11:53 pm

Loving the two wheeler dress but I'm having some issues with the Anthro website and was wondering if anybody else is too – for the past couple of days, it just keeps coming up as a blank page. I've tried a few different computers but it's the same story. Anyone else having issues (particularly from Australia?)

Stephanie,What size in the Professora blazer are you looking for? I have a size 4 that I was going to send back to a store. If you're interested let me know. I needed a smaller size.
