Guest post: Reviews by Ashley

I’m very excited to welcome Ashley from the recently unveiled and very fun blog Anthropologie Girl to the guest post roster! She has a unique style sense and while I’ve mostly been lurking over there I love seeing her OOTDs. Ashley recently visited Anthro and sent over some reviews. If you’re interested in writing a guest post please email me or click the “contact” link near the top of the blog. On to the guest post…

Today I went to my local Anthropologie to see the sale items. While there, I figured I might as well try on some of the new pretties the Salt Lake City Anthro had just received in stock!

The first dress I tried on was the Optical Illusion Dress by Burlapp ($188). I hadn’t paid attention when this gorgeous dress hit the website, but I loved it on Roxy, so I had to try it out. First of all, I must admit that I have a slight addiction to party dresses- especially ones made by Burlapp. I love this dress. The size 4 I tried on fit like a glove – it was very revealing in the neck line, but I usually wear a cami underneath dresses so this wasn’t a big deal to me. I liked the dots and I thought the gradation of the dot size was fun (although I agree with Roxy that the colors in reverse would have be much better). The flower on the waist was a surprise and added the finish touch to make this dress perfection. Wishlisted for me!

The next dress I grabbed was the Traversing Dress by Moulinette Soeurs ($148). I thought the details were sublime. When I put the dress on I liked it, but I wasn’t over the moon about it. Why? I honestly think it is because of the color- black is a little too boring (even grey or navy would have been better). If this dress had a little more punch in the color department I would have been more excited about it. The sash did have a fun pop of color, but to me it didn’t match the dress. The cut was flattering and the size 4 fit nicely. This dress was a pain to get into (there is a side zipper, a criss cross back and below that buttons), but the criss cross was cute enough to make up for it. I like but do not love this dress so I will be waiting for sale time.

When I saw the We Love Vera Seabound Skirt ($118) I knew I had to try it on because the pattern was so different! It is an oversized sea side scene (hence the name), but for me the motif was too large. I tried on a size 2 because there weren’t any 4’s so I had to wear it higher on my hips than I usually do. The colors in the skirt were beautiful and I could imagine many tops really complimenting the color scheme. However, I never got over the huge pattern, so I will have to pass on this one.

To top off the Seabound Skirt I wore the Feathery Tank by Ric Rac ($68). I love, love, love the collar on this sweater. I tried on the size small and for me it was too large – I think a size xs would have been more flattering (it was too loose for my liking). I liked the ivory color I tried on despite the fact that it may wash me out. I would wear this tank with a cardigan over it at work – I think many of my skirts would look great with this top! I was this close to buying this tank today, but I keep thinking about it so hopefully tomorrow it will be mine.

Thanks for reading!

The optical illusions dress looks great on you, Ashley!I am having the same worry about the seabound skirt. I love everything oceany because my heart belongs to Charleston, SC, but the length plus the super big print make me worry that it won't look right on me very short, very petite frame. Maybe in the petite size it wouldn't be so long. Generally anything that hits me below the knee looks stumpy. BTW, just an update for Roxy RE Drifting By Dress, I saw it in my store last night and actually tried it on just for giggles. I definitely see why others like it — the material is great quality and it moves so well. But the color wasn't doing anything for me and even looked a bit dirty against my skin. Never a good thing. Also, the sheerness of the back was actually worse for me than the arms, which was a surprise as the arm area wasn't as unflattering as I'd feared. All in all a major pass for me, but I can see why others love it. =)

wow, the illusions dress looks amazing on you ashley. i totally thought it wouldn't work for me as v necks always emphasize what i don't have on top but now i may try it on!

Did you try on the Feathery Tank with a cardigan? The reason I didn't buy one was because it just wouldn't sit right with a cardigan – the layers of the tank go down too far for the neckline of a cardi. I tried fussing with it but it just wouldn't work. I love the top, though! It's so cute.

Katie – thanks for the review! I agree, I can see why others love the dress and I like it too, just not on me. (If that makes any sense.)

Roxy- Thanks for posting my reviews! I love your blog and it is so fun to be apart of it :).JenLynn- online the Traversing dress is listed as navy, but I swear that the one I tried on was very much black. If it was navy, it would have gotten much higher marks from me, but I still love the cut- so cute! Thanks Ali and Katie!Camera- I wanted to try on the Optical Illusion dress for fun, I didn't realize I would love it so much!Anon- I did try on the Feathery tank with a cardigan and I really liked it with it! I will post a picture of it on my blog tomorrow for you :).Gigi, the colors are so pretty on the seabound skirt- I'm glad you like it!
