Reviews: Foliage Fancy Tee, Chiffonade Top, Claudine Tee, Winding Road Tank

After the outfit set this week there was no question I was headed to Anthro in search of Bordeaux’s Foliage Fancy Tee ($58, seen above under the Hold-The-Lines Jumper ($98)). Luckily I didn’t have to search much — it was at the 5th Ave Anthropologie (NYC) in both colors.

So the white…it’s really sheer. It’s so sheer that I’m not running the photo outright, click here to see it. If this is how Anthro kept the price low on the shirt it’s kind of disappointing. (The grey is also very thin but not as sheer.) My thought was come warmer weather I’d wear this over a pair of shorts. But now I’ve learned I’d have to layer a cami underneath. What a pain.

I tried on my true size medium. The fit was good. The lace insets have thick stitching around them and while this shirt will require some TLC I didn’t find it especially fragile. The neckline was a lot more raw than it looks online. I didn’t mind this either. This top has been added to the birthday excursion wishlist. Most likely I’ll get the white and just resign myself to wearing something under it, thereby teaching Anthro nothing but giving me one cute shirt.

My dear RicRac (or is it Ric Rac??!?! Even Anthro can’t make up their minds on the website), I must tell you that I wish the materials on the Chiffonade Top ($58) were reversed. I love the blue with polka dots that make up the ruffle v-neck! I would buy a top made of that stuff in a second. I sized down to a small for the best fit and it was still nice and roomy. There’s a small cinch on the back of the shirt to add some shape. Mostly this is an easy embellished top. Kind of forgettable to be honest. I wish this was either a tank top or a blouse instead. Nice, but back to the rack.

Smartly, Anthropologie has made a warm-weather version of their super popular Wind-Rippled Tee (now $30). It’s the Claudine Tee ($48). I grabbed my true size medium in this one and I’m glad I did. This top is a close fit. I did notice that the ruffles on this one seemed to be finished better than on the Wind-Rippled Tee. I tried on the orange and it was pretty damn fab. It’s a little sheer (grumble) and it’s close-fitting but it’s lovely. I wish the sleeves were a bit longer, maybe another 1/2″ or so. I have this top wishlisted for now.

I thought the Winding Road Tank ($48) looked pretty insane in the catalog and not in a good way. But when I saw this top on the table I didn’t recognize it. My brain went “oooh, pretty” and it wasn’t until I had the top on that it clicked.

The material is heavily heathered. My true size medium was a close but comfortable fit. I don’t know if I’m crazy but I feel like this tank works well over a bigger chest. And how often do you say that? I’m dubious of the price tag but I like the look. Wishlisted.

My vote goes for both the Winding Road tank and Claudine Tee. The navy version of the Claudine Tee is on my wishlist but now I'm feeling like I should try out the orange too! Looks great!

The Winding Road Tee is much better on you than it looks online. It's a good thing that you didn't recognize it at first :)So many great summer tees! The top two on my wish list right now are the Climbing Cowlneck and the Spotlights Tank (although I have a feeling I'll end up buying a Claudine Tee eventually because I love my Wind Rippled Tee). Alas, I'm trying very hard not to buy anything until I get my next paycheck…

I think the winding road tank actually does work really well for you- and the claudine tee looks fantastic!

Yay! Thanks so much for the Claudine Tee review! I wasn't sure whether to size down in this one or not- now I'll just stick to my true size!Tarynhttp://anthrohappy.blogspot.com

I am a super duper casual dresser, so the Chiffonade tee was right up my alley – I noticed when I look at my online review it shows it in PINK – did your store have a pink version? I hope it shows up online! The Claudine looks great on you! I really appreciate your photos! I might try this one in the ivory – I just worry about the sheerness on a lighter color…Thanks for all the great reviews on your blog – they are so helpful!

Did you see the holds the line jumper at the 5th ave store yet? I love the way they layered it and want to try the whole outfit. Also want to try the breezing along blouse pictured in one of the other outfits- do they have that in yet?

Good morning ladies!Lola the Spotlight Tank is high on my list as well. Looks like it's backordered online but I'm hoping that I'll see it at Rockefeller Plaza this weekend.Jan Russell – I did not see a pink version but I could have missed it. I didn't see the navy either — the store might have sold through them already or not gotten all the colors.Anon @ 9:45 I did but not until I was in the checkout line. I'll be back there this weekend to try recreating the look. 🙂

A question on the fit of the Claudine tee – were you the same size you were in the l/s version? Thanks!

Hi Amy, yep, same size as the long-sleeved version.

Thanks for the reviews! I'm so excited about the Claudine Tee, I ordered it a few days ago and can't wait for it to come in (the hubby is buying it for me!). I went with a S in ivory. I'm usually a S or XS, but bc I have a larger bust I went with the S. *fingers crossed*

Out of all of the ones you tried, I like the Claudine tee the best. When I tried on the wind rippled shirt, I noticed some small holes on the back where the tag was attached, did you see the same quality issues with the Claudine? The foliage tank is gorgeous, but in my opinion 58 is too much to spend if you have to layer. Thank you for the reviews

My store had all the colors for the Claudine Tee. It comes in navy, ivory, lilac, and orange. Jan Russell — Maybe the lilac is the "pink" color that you are referring to.

I actually wore my Chiffonade tee to work yesterday with a belted cardigan and a very nice co-worker said, "Man, I love that!It looks so awesome!", which made my day. the blue and olive combo is unusual enough to make this tee a must have for me. I too have not seen the pink, but will now keep an eye out!

Meli22 very exciting! Hubby gifts are always nice, and I'm sure you'll love this top.Kim G I did not notice any holes around the tag but to be honest I didn't look at that part of the shirt very closely.Suzi that's pretty damn funny. I love it when coworkers notice and compliment an outfit. :DJan Russell, thanks so much for the link! I agree that version of the Chiffonade Tee is super cute. If I spot it anywhere I'll report back.

I just bought the chiffonade tee in pink about an hour ago from the store. I was surprised to see it, but my store was brand new and today was it's first day open so they had a lot of stock. It's really cute!

I bought the Claudine Tee in the purple. I had trouble deciding what color! It's a cute short-sleeved mirror image of the Wind-rippled tee. It is a little lighter fabric than the "original" (read 3/4 sleeve) wind-rippled tee, but that's acceptable since it's more for warmer weather. I also bought the Country Manor top in the helicopter design (don't know why it's labeled as "beige" online). It's very cute, and I feel it fits true to size as well. I too feel the neck is wide like the online reviews say, but it's casual wear, so it's okay.

The ivory & lilac claudines are on my wishlist, and I already have the long sleeved gray and 3/4 sleeve red- I love t shirts, esp ones that make the most of my shape.

The Wind Rippled Tee is also FABULOUS if you are pregnant. It stretches great over my 5 month baby bump!

I'm curious what you ladies plan to pair the Claudine with. A high-waisted skirt maybe?

  23. January 15, 2010 / 10:18 pm

I can see the Claudine (esp. the ivory) paired with, like you said Roxy, a high waisted charcoal pencil skirt, as well as with dark skinny jeans. I also would wear an a-line skirt (like J.Crew's belle) with it.
