Email: For the collector

Anthropologie’s latest email highlights some collections they’ve assembled of like items. Oh fun, a game! Oh wait, not quite. Damn. Oh well. I love the photos in this email set. The cohesiveness mixed with randomness speaks to me. I picked a few of my favorite sets to highlight. See the scroll-movie here.

When I own a house with a foyer I plan on having several mismatched clocks up. Or maybe when I own my own business they could be in the waiting room. It’s interesting how classic clocks are making a serious comeback — it seemed like around the turn of the century digital was the way to go but now it’s all about the hands. The mixed media of this set is pretty cool. I really love the Measured Time Scale ($248). The steel has such a classic, almost 50s look to me that would be a nice contrast to my mostly modern (and uh, mostly unused) kitchen. And there are two clocks made of Fair Isle Sweater material?? What??!? I dig the Fair Isle Sweater Clock, Horses ($398). It is made of awesome.

When I was a kid there was a local jewelry store where you could go “mining” for gold. This meant going into a back room and digging around in pre-populated dirt. Still, the company worked to make it a fun experience. We were all given miner’s hats and they hid things like pyrite in there so we felt like we’d found something awesome. Every so often they’d hide something really cool like cut amethyst in there. This photo reminds me of those times. The mix of precious gems and jewelry is just right to me. The Celestial Coasters ($32) in particular would be a conversation piece in themselves.

One of my pre-Anthropologie Anthropologie collections is my collection of wine glasses and champagne flutes. Rather than buying sets I looked for interesting pieces and the result was a fabulous mix of thrift store fines, fine glassware and the occasional inherited piece. I was devastated when the collection broke while I was moving back East from college. Nice to see Anthropologie repeating the idea here. I hadn’t discovered them yet when I started the collection but it just goes to show that I was a fan before I even knew it. Despite the beautiful glasses my favorite option in this set is the Castle Key Bottle Opener ($12). Keys — another thing I’ve collected!

I like a lot of Anthropologie's jewelry, the rings are great. However, I hate to spend money on pieces I won't wear every day. And I love the ghostflower necklace, but way too spendy for me. I have bought some cute, inexpensive jewelry from Stella and Dot. It isn't as edgy as some of Anthropologie's product, but the price is right for the amount that I wear it. I am interested in seeing an Earth's Caverns Bracelet.

Georgine, I like Stella & Dot too! I first heard about it through The Bachelorette (yes, I watch that show. Guilty pleasure.) and ended up buying two necklaces. Both of which I really like! If I see the Earth's Caverns Bracelet in-store I will try to snap a photo. I don't review jewelry because it's always pretty crowded over there.Hazel I'll see what my gals can come up with for the maeshowe shirtdress. I like the sound of black tights and boots! The pattern on that dress is gorgeous. No problem Natalye. 🙂
