Reviews: Finishing Touches Top, Reverie Top, Carnelian Top

Best looking mug shot ever!

I have been looking for some good prison garb striped shirts and the Finishing Touches Top ($68) by Velvet is one of the coolest I’ve seen this fall. I tried on the small as it was either that or a large. The small was pretty snug, but then this shirt has a good mix of spandex in it. I’d say the top is true to size but form fitting no matter what.

I really liked the top on. It was flattering and the stripes sat straight on me with minimal fuss. The sleeves were a bit too snug and reading the product reviews online it seems that’s the case no matter what size you choose. Note that the black lace peeping out from the bottom hem is not part of the shirt; it’s my cami underneath. Once again I found myself wishing a shirt was a few inches longer. Love the cowlneck on this top — it’s an unexpected fun touch.

I don’t think the photos above accurately convey the large shoulders of Weston Wear’s Reverie Top ($98). Fold upon fold of voile creates a spilled domino effect that is very pretty but also akin to wearing huge shoulder pads. I suppose I should be pleased that I look OK in the photos but in real life it was a daunting effect. The shoulders would probably swallow anyone petite.

I sized down one size to a small. It was uncomfortably tight around my chest but fairly loose everywhere else. Classic curvy dilemma. I would probably buy this in my true size and get it tailored. Voile doesn’t really have much give. The shirt has some sheerness to it but luckily it’s lined. It’s a very pretty top that I’ve added to my wishlist, but I will most likely wait for it to go on sale.

Project Alabama is hitting us with the tanks. Earlier this month I reviewed the Snowdrift Tank ($88, review here) and this time around I tried on its cousin the Carnelian Top ($78). The brand’s inconsistent sizing continues — this time it was a small that fit me best. The photos above on the left are the truest color-wise for the shirt. The mix of embroidery and ribbons makes for a very cool effect on both the front and back. I used this as my base layer when trying on all the blazers yesterday and it worked well.

Since it’s cotton I expect this shirt to stretch as you wear it and it might shrink a bit in the wash. It fit close to my body but was by no means uncomfortable or tight. I really like the shirt but $78 seems a little much for what it is. To the wishlist to wait for sale.

Wow I love the Finishing Touches top on you! I wouldn't have looked twice at that if it weren't for your picture review! I will probably snag that within the next week or so.

Roxy: thought the same about the Carnelian top. Nice, but not worth the $88 price, especially if it end sup shrinking when you was being cotton and all…..I love that lime sash also!
