Email: Knit Newbies

It’s back to basics in Anthropologie’s latest email. I was cleaning my closet out last nite and noticing that I seem to be lacking some basics for spring…it’s like Anthro read my mind!

The theme this Spring seems to be a new twist on fundamentals staples. Click through the email to Anthro’s offerings, which ranges from tunics to vests to surplice tops. Strangely a lot of their Spring items that I would consider foundational pieces are not on this page. Kind of slim pickings actually. I do like many of Anthro’s basic offerings this year — too bad they left a lot of them out of their April catalogue.

When I shop at Anthro. I am looking for the statement pieces. I am willing to spend a lot for the item that will catch eyes and that people will ask me where I got it from. As for basics, I go to Target, Forever21 and Old Navy. Basics tend to wear out and so I do not spend a lot on them. Although some of these basics have a nice twist, I look at most of them and think I can get a cheap version elsewhere and nobody will ever know. Anthro. shoppers enjoy the "splurge" for a cool find- these don't look "splurgable". Is that even a word???

I agree with Blondmoma. I hate to spend a lot of basics. Especially anything white and especially in the summer. Target has great white tees. I also bought some cute tees at H&M. I spend all summer at the park and pool and no matter what the price, tees don't make it more than a season. I will buy a couple of new Anthro outfits for the summer, but few things are casual enough for my summer days.

I suppose this is why I have so few of the basics! 😉 Old Navy was my home for tank tops for years and I still go to American Eagle in search of cheap camis. I go into Forever 21 a lot but I hardly ever come out with anything. My main issue with their clothing is that it doesn't last. The disposable thing is hard for me to reconcile. If I like a piece enough to buy it I'm only going to disappoint myself if it falls apart after a season.

American Eagle has the best camis and tanks, IMO. I am loving their lace boyfriend tanks this season- nice, long, lean, and they wash up so nicely! I'm actually thinking of going and buying more to keep for when the ones I have no wear out- and at $12.50 a pop, why not?Blondmama is right about Anthro and basics…it's just not where I go to look for a good, basic tee. I like to go there to find a unique top to wear on a date night out, not to drop $80 on a cotton tee that will be wrecked and ruined.
