My Holiday 2019 shopping list is downright massive. I believe my list grows every year because I love gifting so much! As my list swells it’s critically important to stay on budget. I also like to have some backup gifts at the ready in case someone I didn’t think of surprises me with a present. And as a bonus, if those gifts go unneeded it’s stuff I’ll keep for myself!
Therefore when it comes to gifts that are sure to please without emptying my wallet I like to turn to popular crowdpleasers like jewelry! This post in my 2019 Holiday Gift Guide is all about trendy, pretty necklaces.
Right now there are two necklace shapes I’m noticing in abundance: layered necklaces (usually triple strand though not always) and coin pendant necklaces. That’s the type of trendy, pretty necklaces this post will focus on. The great thing about this trend is you can go simple or maximalist. You can go highly affordable or incredibly expensive.
I’ve loved layered necklaces for a long time! I think there is something so pleasant and wonderfully feminine about wearing jewelry in threes. To me they symbolize my balance of the heart, spirit and body. I’ve noticed that in the last couple of years there are more layered necklaces with two strands instead of three and I’m told this symbolizes the relationship between our physical bodies and our untethered, non-physical timeless essences.
Of course you don’t need to buy into the spiritual meaning at all to enjoy wearing layered necklaces! You probably see examples of these on influencers you love often. For example the Amber Layered Chain Y-Necklace is a very popular layered necklace. I own it in gold and rose gold. This necklace makes an awesome gift because it looks expensive yet is is very affordable. It’s one of my favorite trendy, pretty necklaces and it’s been popular for years with no signs of waning.
My most recent pickups have been the Desdemona Necklace Set and the Rosalie Necklace Set, both of which are on sale and hopefully still available to buy when this post runs. These are both delicate triple strand necklaces with both long and short strands. They can be worn separately or together which adds to the styling potential.
Layered necklaces look great with v-neck tops, square neck tops, turtlenecks or deep necklines. I mostly avoid wearing them with crewneck tops or boatnecks. They can be fun to show a peek of from shawl-collar tops. Another favorite trendy, pretty necklace of mine is the Treasure Pendant Necklace Set because it looks so good with v-neck tees!!
Mostly I wear more delicate layered necklaces but sometimes a chunky or large layered necklace can be fun! I think Free People excels at this styling, and I’ve included several of their layered necklaces in my shopping suggestions. The Gold Rush Collection Collar Necklace is a great example of a large layering necklace that looks beautiful! Their Mesmerize Layered Necklace balances between large and small scale well, and is a frequent work necklace for me! (I did not find the smallest layer to be too tight as one reviewer did.)
Nordstrom is another great place to look for trendy, pretty necklaces in the layered style. They bring together so many brands I love in one place like Gorjana, Madewell and their own in-house B.P. line. It’s so easy to fall in love with gifting pieces like the x Claudia Sulewski Layered Chain Necklace or the Celestial Layered Pendant Necklace.
Other trendy, pretty necklaces I love to gift are coin pendant necklaces. This shape has become tremendously popular over the last year. Coin pendant necklaces come in all sizes, metals and gemstones. While I mainly think of gold or silver coins a la the Ascending Medallion Necklace seen above I’ve noticed many different types. Some coin pendant necklaces have accents like the Catena Coin Necklace. I’ve seen coins with an ancient look such as the Anna Coin Pendant Necklace and coins with a spiritual look including the 14K Elements Charm Necklace. (Not gonna lie, I dream of these.)
I love it when coin necklaces have special details! The Maris Necklace has a beautiful hook closure. Pearls elevate the Lourdes Necklace. The Libi Stone Choker makes its pendant out of a beautiful gem. (See it on me.) I find Y-coin necklaces to be breathtaking. How lovely is the Ana Coin Y-Necklace? Such an elegant yet simple statement!
It surely comes as no surprise that sometimes necklaces are both coins or medallions and layered. This combo is a trendy, pretty necklaces favorite of mine right now! You can go large with a statement piece like the Stone Collection Collar or much more delicate as seen in the Layered Charm Necklace and Coin Layered Necklace.
I find deep scoopnecks or v-necks are usually the best for this necklace style, though they can work with the right turtleneck too!
