Trend I Love: Pattern Mixing

Fall has truly arrived in NYC! Trees are changing color. The wind is picking up. The sun doesn’t come up until long after I’m awake. As a Winter baby I’ve always loved the feelings of shedding old skin, renewal and inner healing that take place during this season and the next.

Fall also happens to be my favorite time of year for clothing! Layers, blessed layers are back! I love putting together outfits that reveal a fun top under a fun sweater under a fun coat and so on. This year I’m even layering tights with socks with shoes. There is so much to discuss so let me begin with a trend I love: pattern mixing! In this outfit, I’m mixing plaids of different scales.

In truth pattern mixing has been around forever. But it’s really re-emerged as a prominent trend for Fall/Winter 2019. I’m so here for it! Plaid is one of the menswear items that I love seeing applied to women’s wear. I adore shapes, symmetry, and the way lines interact with each other. It makes me a lover of architecture, graphic design and of course clothing!!

You’ll see this coat on me many more times in the near future. Make sure you’re following me on Instagram because not all the looks will make it to the blog! And be sure to check out my liketoknow.it page where I’ll be posting another way I’m styling this top, exclusively there! So many outfit ideas to come on all of my channels.

Are you as big of a plaid lover as I am? Want some help mixing prints? Here are two great guides: 1 | 2

Double plaid is too fun for Fall, I'm wearing a different version of it today. 🙂

It is super warm with the coat on! But when it's too hot in the office, it's nice to have the short sleeves underneath.

I LOVE mixing patterns. It's a subtle art that can go terribly wrong lol, but when you nail it, it's so worth it! Love your combo and your necklace!

  17. October 22, 2019 / 10:14 am

What a cute outfit! I'll have to check out your guides for mixing prints. Normally I tend to stick to solid colors with an occasional print thrown in. I need an adult version of Garanimals.
